Fire pet is casting their damage shield very infrequently or not at all.

He will cast it - but there is now a 10-20 second delay upon summoning the fire pet before he will cast his damage shield...it wasn't like that before the patch. Fix please :)

I had my pet up for quite some time and never saw him put a DS up, and had him fight some monsters. Definitely ruining my exp :(

Hmm I was using the 44 fire pet...I was chain summoning in WFP last night and he would cast it every time - but like I mentioned there was a delay from when he was summoned to when he would cast - maybe higher level pets don't cast everytime? Its weird and definately a drag trying to xp.

This happens at lvl 34 as well. tried it with the lvl 29 pet too and same thing. Think its all fire pets. Sucks that it happened during double xp weekend.

It's not as big of a deal but there is also a delay between summoning air pet and when he casts invis on himself.

There was always a delay in between summoning the pet and it casting its spells, of a random duration. I think a dev once said it had to do with how many pet type mobs were up at the time, either in zone or server wide (I forget).

Log onto EQmac with a mage and you will see this in action. Sometimes it will cast very quicky, sometimes several (many) seconds will pass first. Very classic.

Ill have to do some research - I didnt play mage on live, but I dont ever remember hearing about that. Funny that there isn't any mention of that in any of the solo guides I've come across.

The mage pets abilities (damage shield, invis) should be inherent to the pet - after all the fire pet is a big ball of magma and the air pet is a wisp of air. :D

Lucy Info on the fire pet ds lists the casting time as "0" : http://lucy.allakhazam.com/spell.html?id=927&source=Live

Same with air pet : http://lucy.allakhazam.com/spell.html?id=928&source=Live

The spell they cast is instant, yes. I am talking about how long after they are "born" they decide its time to put on the DS or turn invisi.

I.E. chain casting fire pets and expecting them to have the DS up right away so you can throw it at the mob was never a given.

Yes, fire pets should not ALWAYS cast their damage shield. Sometimes it should take several seconds. However, I have had fire pets after this patch up for over 2-3 minutes with no damage shield, while others cast after about 10 seconds. (I haven't gotten out my stopwatch... yet)

Another problem is they won't cast it once engaged with a mob... they will just attack. So if I am chain summoning, there will NEVER be a damage shield on the second pet until the NPC I am in battle with is dead. So my Project1999 chain summoning strategy now is reduced to binding all the way across the zone and when my pet dies, gate, then cast a new pet, and before the mob gets to me the new pet has usually gotten up his damage shield. This is definitely not classic. Fire pets threw up DS randomly but usually in under one server tick, I believe fairly similar to how an NPC shaman, wizard, etc throws up their buffs once they spawn.

The fact that they won't cast DS once engaged with a mob might be classic... I really can't remember that. But I never saw that problem back in 1999-2000, probably because the pets DSed themselves almost immediately, so any fire pet sent to /pet attack would have DS up.

Sadly the above post is not correct. Fire pets would take 5 seconds to 2-3 minutes to DS

Do you have evidence of that? I don't have evidence of what I posted above, only personal experience. I still never recall in classic chain summoning a fire pet and when the mob starts whacking him there is no damage shield. I have started binding across the zone and gating to "chain" a pet so that when the mob reaches us my pet's damage shield is up. I never had to do this back in 1999-2000. Wish I had video from back then :)

So is this going to be returned to "normal" or left "classic"?

Been gone a few days. Was this ever resolved?
