Convert server to a new type?

With population levels lower then ever due to severe trolling and dev neglect and lack of pvp interest in general is it seriously time to maybe think of a new type of server to try out and stop this pvp madness? This pvp server hasnt done anything except generate more trolls and cause many problems.

Maybe a new type of PVE server can take its place that is different enough to not ruin the blue server. I would love to see a real fironia vie ruleset server with all the classic FV mechanics like

-1 character per IP
-no common language
-add human language
-no no drop items
-trivial loot code for magic and lore items
-cant buff more than 20 levels below you (should be changed to 10)


Anyone have any thoughts on this? Any other server ideas?

it would be doable but what would be better than a P99 run server? clearly wouldnt be worth it without rogean, nilbog, p99 gms, and the classic p99 database

You state dev neglect as one of the reasons for server downfall then in the next post say server wouldnt be worth making without those same devs. I can promise you a FV server ruleset wil have far fewer players than a pvp one. i say make it if you know how.

I'd personally wouldn't play EQ without pvp, regardless of how cool the ruleset was. Eventually it would come down to who poopsocks the hardest like on blue, and without pvp, there's no other way to contest content.

Red sever is fine, it provides the same classic EQ experience as the blue server, but with a different (and better) way to contest content.

guild v guild fights over content VS. sitting in a liar for three says stareing at a wall hopeing the boss spawns and your ranger tags it with an arrow first.

replace server with a red server that starts off as it should, with global ooc, yellow text, and increased exp, instead of slowly altering a "classic" server that everyone said wouldnt work in the first place over 8 months into a viable server only to die a slow death because it took the people running the shit 8 months to realize the people from the start saying it wouldnt work that the people were right?

guess I missed all of those epic contested fights on this server cuz last time I checked we logged on killed bosses and logged off. this is just a single guild blue server that is better fit for a small emulated box than having resources dedicated to it at this point. something like FV sounds like a lot of fun

a server like this would never attract enough people in my opinion to warrant devoting resources to it. should just put everything into blue at this point and getting velious out, fixing existing bugs, etc.

People box for numerous reasons but I'd imagine many resort to boxing when they can't find groups to farm or level with. Except during prime time hours, it was hard to do even as far back as January.

The above post three posts are truth. Fortunatly Nihilum won the great war vs. the VZ/TZ scum and griefed them off the server.

The server (even with lower numbers) has a FAR healthier community now then it did before. Ask the new people playing and you will see. Server population is now more helpful and more "classic" then it was before holo and scum got griefed away.

The people in the know, know that the server is fine and will get 100x better when the new carrot (kunark) comes out.

Only ones wanting to "burn it down" are the failures who came to grief, but instead got GRIEFED themselves.

VZ/TZ people (well most of them) had no intention to play fairly. Winning and griefing was their only objective. It is funny that people come down on admins for being lenient or giving people chances. You did give them chances and the people continued to cheat and got themselves banned. My issue, well more than an annoyance than really an issue really, is all the people trying to sell manastones and other high end gear. Especially considering that there are only an average of 25 people on the server at any one time. Obviously exploiting was involved and gear has found its way into accounts that did not get banned. Such a thing does not really affect my character as he is just starting out on the server and a few people have been very helpful.

PLing is not against the game rules but with hot spots as they are now it is possible to use phones to connect a computer, giving it a different IP, thus 2 boxing. Obviously the Admins wanted r99 to work but considering the people that harrassed the forums it was doomed.

I enjoy EQ the game and I am enjoying r99. I've played a Bard, a Mage, a Rogue, a Ranger and an Enchanter to different levels. I find it incorrigible that people sell gear they know was gotten through cheating and many of these same people still give props to people who were banned. I know this game well and gear does make a difference when people of equal skill meet in PvP. I listen to the OOC chat. The guys that talk smack about how good they are have had to flee. Blaming their deaths on lag, guards assisting, being outnumbered oh the list is pretty long. Then bitch about the xp loss as their corpse gets camped by bluebies who are pretty pissed and just returning the favor. The difference is that bluebies tend to enjoy this game for what it is and are still around. Perhaps we will always be.
