View Full Version : Is that a dick move?

Today I logged on and moved to the sister tent in the Lfay, and found a level 29 mage camping it. I suspect that he was there for the money from the bronze weapons, but that seems like a dick move. There was another player that could actually benefit from experience sitting there waiting for him to leave, and he had pretty decent gear, and I'm sure there are hundreds of better cash spots for a lvl 29. All in all it seemed like a player was locking out other players from getting good cash and exp for our level, and I was just wondering if you guys share my opinion.

If that guys highest char is lvl 29 then who knows it's really not a bad spot even at that lvl.

I think there are many spots to camp in this game. Ask the mage when he/she will be done and come back later.

Being around the mobs level doesn't give you priority.

No no I know. It just seemed to me that there were many more greater cash spots at 29 compared to that spot in particular, where another player (not myself) who could greatly benefit from the exp was waiting. I'm not saying I'm angry because I have to wait, I have waited up to 15 hours for a camp before, it just seemed to me that when a higher level who gains 1/4 the benefits of a lower level holds a camp when there are numerous better places for the 29 to be, it just seems like a douche move.

It doesn't seem like a dick move to me. But if you were so concerned, you could have told him of a specific place where he might get better loot, and who knows? He might have even tried it. But I know several places that just make me feel comfortable and nostalgic in game and that's a large part of playing on this server, too.

Maybe he was waiting for gargs to open up and stuck nearby? Iunno.

I don't think it's particularly douchey though; if that's what he wants to do in his play-time, that's his decision. I for one would be a bit pissy if someone comes up to me telling me to stop enjoying myself ingame cuz am too high lvl for it.

I didn't say anything to him because I didn't know if it was acceptable or not. It just struck me like that I guess. But it's all good, hope he had a good time anyway.

Good thing about the red server, you just call someone in to kill him.

You also only have to compete with 30 other people for camps. :)

People camping Pyzjn are jerks too cause the mobs are only like level 10. Noobs would benefit more and people only camp her for money obv.

Happens all the time. Get used to it. Even when I'd go to some out of the way place like permafrost there would be a level 50 or two killing all the named lvl 20 mobs.

And then instances were born ... all these issues have been overcome in new games but new issues took their places like boring souless heartless games. Not saying everything new is bad but it has been taken too far.

Yep and this is why there is instanced content in new MMOs. So that if you don't want to deal with dicks, don't group with them, pretty simple.

Yet, 99% of you would cry bloody murder if instanced content was suggested here like instanced VP or instanced Sebilis etc.

And if the OP isn't even going to attempt a dialog with the person he thinks is "pulling a dick move" perhaps he would be better off with instanced content. No need to talk to anyone there.

/shrug I've camped trivial mobs before for any number of reasons - easy gear for my alt, easy plat that allows me to AFK and do other things in between pulls without fear of being killed etc. Just like there are plenty of places for him to get plat, the same can be said for a level 29 to get experience.

Yeah there's multiple reasons why someone would be killing mobs that no longer con to them. I slaughtered Blackburrow/Crushbone for the sole purpose of faction. Of course I also, when a zone got crowded, used the ability to cast DS on a tank and still get faction hits to both help the newbs killing for xp and still reach my goal but *shrug*.

Should have just asked him why he was there instead of assuming. Also if he was evil should have told him to go camp Halfling guards because they are good exp, money, AND taste delicious!

if only there were some server that was pretty much the same game but instead of making this post crowd sourcing everyones feelings on the situation you could have just killed him and taken the camp. =(

Snagglepuss
06-08-2012, 01:19 AM
You see people doing that all the time. It was frustrating when hunting Hill Giants and later Sea Furies for experience (and the cash too) and a level 60 character would be holding down the spawn points and taking all the mobs. But they have every much as right to be there as you do.

Remind me, can you hunt the HHK guards at 29? Don't they drop FS weapons? I think the static gnolls in SK drop FS too, but there's more risk involved...

You weren't sure about if it was a dick move? Do you not have a brain with which to make your own decisions and formulate opinions?

so you're annoyed at him for being at a camp before you were there?

He may have been camping that spot because it's safe for him while earning some plat. He could be at work and is hopping back to the game for the kills and loot only. I suspect this to be the case (or something similar). Yes, he can go elsewhere for XP and better loot but at an increase in effort and risk which he's probably not in a position to work at. I am sure that during normal play time he is off at other spots.

It's not a douche thing to do really but it does suck if someone at a level appropriate for the camp wants to do it. There are plenty of other places to go. Also, as mentioned, you could send a tell and ask him to let you know when he leaves and/or how long he'll be there for etc. He may or may not respond though so don't take it personally.

Norrath is a big place and you should seek out other camps if it's taken already.

Well, I don't know if the original question was a 'dick move' or not in game, but as you can tell, there's plenty of them to be had right here on the forum.

Suggesting he go to the red server if he doesn't like competition for camps seems like a pretty good one to me. Either that or get used to a lot of disappointment. People farming green mobs for loot isn't going to stop because it hurts his feelings.

Yes, moving to an empty server because the camp on his server is camped is a great idea. Any other schemes red turds can come up with to try and keep their server on life support?

Your server is going to get shutdown. Live with it.

I was kiting mobs in PoFire there a couple years back. Al'Kabor is lame and population is worse than p99 when I played. I am sure with F2P more have joined but I would be suprised if they even had 500 people.

Population doesn't bother me at all. It is easy to find friendly groups and that server is a throwback to the golden age of EQ before the WOW influence ruined it. It will be my online home for a very very long time. It is right at the point where I cashed out of EQ the first time.

My initial instinct is yes it is. But perhaps you could've killed a few in his presence, and he might have shown his true colors. Either by saying "oh you want to hunt here; I'll move on," or by saying "my pet could pwn you dood GTFO so I can solo afk while at work and make some plat so I can buy uber loots from other jerks just like me."

There are hundreds of thingsin EQ that seem harsh to me that other players are fine with. I wanted to know if this behavior was acceptable before I talked to anyone. No need to be an asshole I just asked a question honestly.
