didn't want to start a new thread at first, but looking through the first couple pages nothing really popped out at me =p perhaps even this could be a megathread for all people that are first starting on this server.
my main question is.... how difficult will it be to start a warrior as my first character on this server? are there low level groups to be had? i suppose i have no idea what the population is like on this server...
i'm migrating over from the Vulak server on EQLive. i two boxed over there, but i only did that because EVERYONE boxed... i avoided doing it for months but eventually just got too pissed off trying to find a healer for my warrior main.
i'm really stoked to be playing over here though :)
p.s. gonna be playing on blue

Starting with a warrior here is extremely hard i would say...i would go s omthing that could solo and get some cash so u can twink out your melee....but thats just me
Mage
Necro
Druid
Shammy
Enchanter
All pretty good first character choices. Even a bard can solo pretty good with minimal stuff. But if your dead stuck on being a warrior i have about 500pp i could toss your way to help you get started send tell to my in game on Tyrany

Right now, it will be tough depending on where you start. The server pop is down a bit, so finding low level groups might not be so easy. It's not impossible however. Faydark is a good starting zone, but even there it's been tough finding low level groups lately (at least for me and my alts).
East Commons is a good start spot for some grouping and getting buffs to solo for the first 10 levels and then you'll be in the neighborhood of the most popular grouping spots of nro and oasis for 10-20.
I think the main thing on this server is perseverence. Don't get discouraged right away when looking for groups, there will be some days you can't find anything and some days that you can't keep up with tells for them.
At any rate, make sure you're playing the class you want to play regardless of population. This game is only fun if you like the toon you're playing.
I have a few low level alts that can group with you too if you see me on:
Cyradil 9 Ranger
Grafalcon 8 Cleric

my plan was to start a Human or Barbarian Warrior. I soloed a lot of characters to level 15 in BlackBurrow back in the day, and i was gonna try that again.
another question: any classes lacking at the higher levels? or is this whole place just a grab bag? :)
how's the crafting-economy? anyone selling banded? (haha "WTS Banded Armor, 1AC per PP, PST :D" i'm stoked to be back :D)

i suppose that's not surprising :)
do you guys think Velious will ever come out on this server? if so then i'm definitely rolling a Rallos Zek worshiping Barbarian Warrior :)
edit---
yeah think i just decided... Warrior main and Necromancer alt for when i can't find a group/get frustrated soloing.
download has 10% left.
ahhh sorry i'm just excited hahaha :D

Yeah I think we will see Velious in 4 months or less. Welcome aboard.
Pick the class you want and stick with it. Don't do a lot of alts at first. You will need a main toon to farm plat and items to help on other toons down the road.

alts aren't too fun until you can twink them :)
if my main is a Warrior though a soloable alt is gonna be needed for my sanity haha

If you ultimately want to play a warrior, then that's the toon you'll have the most fun with, so start with that. There is plenty of need for warriors at all levels, imo. And I think there's a good market for banded, because not a whole lot of people make it and there is somewhat of a demand for it.

yeah i think i was actually set on warrior before posting haha :) just wanted to make sure. from looking around the forums a bit more i think i'll be able to get groups on the way up the levels... and if there's not a lot of people doing Smithing then I definitely will start up. i was the only person on Vulak selling Banded, and no one bought it =p
i already like this place more, and i haven't even logged in yet haha. y'all seem way friendlier... Vulak had a lot of anti-social/avoidant types.
currently installing the latest .NET Framework so i can get the EQEmu patcher to work... sooonnnn :)
------edit
forgot to mention my backstory =p started up during Kunark/Velious era... i remember buying Luclin the day it came out... my highest level toon back in the day was a level 46 warrior during PoP... i was pretty casual back then :) i used to play on Morell Thule the most, and was a member of <The Hessians of Morell-Thule>
on Vulak my main was a warrior... got him to level 60 right before Luclin opened.... gave up on him for a bit after some guild drama, started up my Necromancer... then i started two boxing the Necro and an SK... currently the SK is 61 and the Necro is 63. i'm so far behind on flags for PoP, and the community isn't too helpful usually... only had a couple good friends over there.
loaned my Fungi Tunic to my buddy that three boxed and had several high levels mains on each account... haven't seen any of his alts since =p meh lol
<3 guys. .net just finished. barb warrior incoming.

thank you everyone :)
been going pretty great so far. a nice shaman by the name of Salum saw me in EverFrost and ended up giving me 100pp and a few nice warrior weapons. also a bunch of buffs.... currently i'm level 5 and duoing with a level 5 SK in BlackBurrow. i've already encountered so many friendly people, i feel right at home here in P99 :)

Just a small comment. My smithing is in the 180s... actually selling a piece of banded is a rare occurrence in my experience.
This could change... seems like a bunch of newer players around lately...

Welcome to the server. I started off my characters in the Qeynos area. It was the first city I played on live at launch and I just had to continue here on P99. If I am in that area I'll look for you and your friends and help out with some buffs etc. Since you are here, I know that you are interested in a challenge so I would not want to ruin that for you by giving too many items to you as a start..
Heck, I can remember how excited I was when I had killed enough stuff to save up for a magic weapon so I could hit magic based creatures (Wisps, scarecrows etc).
Welcome to the server! It's a great place.

Hey, welcome aboard!
Youll find that most everyone you meet is friendly here, with the rare exception (unfortuntely the exceptions are pretty vocal). Ive got a few real life friends of my own getting back into EQ after several years and they are stomping around Qeynos/Black Burrow these days. I dont think it will be too tough to bump into some good folks that you enjoy leveling with.
Good hunting!

Look for Hitzme in game. I have a weapon and maybe some armor for you to make your starting easier!
Full Circle just pulled in about 6-12 new lvl 8-13 recruits about three days ago. They are easlily the largest leveling guild out there with a nice core in the mid 20-30s and a new group gettin ready to hit oasis. Great groups all the time. I dont think I have had to solo since Oasis, just hit lvl 30 the other day, full grps all the time. Good luck to ya. ~Creem

started up during Kunark/Velious era ... i used to play on Morell Thule the most, and was a member of <The Hessians of Morell-Thule>
I played on Morrel Thule during this time as well, what was your toons name? I was in <Prima Nocturnae>, little family guild, didn't raid much.
Edit - Welcome to the server!

server is overflowing with druids/necros/shammies/monks i would say....almost in that order even
IN Maelstrom before we merged we had 57 Druids and 24 necromancers out of the 142 of us at our height. lol. was fucking rediculous
the server has close to no tanks lvl 30+....
been seeing alotta of paper tanks epic failing on my cleric in mm tragically :c
pharmakos

i figured there wouldn't be a whole lot of tanks at the high end. takes some dedication to get a good tank geared up, especially a warrior. i don't mind. :)
i think i will join Full Circle btw. already had a person in game from the guild that suggested i should apply... (Ideal maybe? was talking to a few people and might have the names confused.)
y'all rock :)
