alternately, you can simply forego the IP exemption and use two separate IPs. The latter is certainly more expedient than the former.

Ignoring Wolfgang....
I just started today and submitted my request since both me and my wife want to play. I was able to log in fine earlier to day with my test character. Got my wife set up this evening, and when I tried to log in, I got the temporary block message.
While it's likely some are using the exemption process to get around the no 2+ boxing rule, the fact that it's entirely possible our exemption requests are getting ignored now is not a happy thought. Me and my wife are really looking forward to playing together, even gone so far as to begin making plans on leveling and such, divvying the trade-skill work load as well. But if our request is not going to get accepted because others before us have ruined the opportunity, there is little point for the two of us to be here. We can't play at the same time and soloing in old school EQ is impossible for all but a few classes.
If any moderators are reading this... please please please accept our request, I really want to show my wife what EQ was like before "easy mode".

I wonder how the guides determine someone is boxing or not? Me and my wife are in the same room but our computers are on opposite sides of the room due to the electric wall heater taking up space where my computer would optimally go. There is little need for in game communication as a result, so I hope a lack of group, say or other chat forms is not a criteria.

It isn't the only thing they check. My wife and I played on P99 for a long time and we don't talk to each other in-game -- why would we? We sit a few feet from each other when we're both online.
I'm fairly sure we were investigated a couple of times when I was PLing her noob chars, or she was PLing mine. I know that I was asked a couple of times by people that just happened to be "passing by" our PLing spots if we were two different people. I'm sure that the guides/GMs gather plenty of evidence against purported 2-boxers before slapping them with a ban.
