Remake discord server

PVP red is dead and its no fun anymore.

Delete it and remake the Discord server like it was on live, but make it classic only (or even kunark could be fun) make some EXP mods etc, no /role or /anon and you could even have different types of events etc like death = half your total level loss instead of full level loss etc

and have it on a 2-3 week refresh rate where scores actually matter

have leaderboards and such

i'd play that multiple times for sure

Have never used any sort of hack in EQ. MQ, ShowEQ -- nada. Not even on emu.


However Discord was a hotbed for hacking, and I heard through the grapevine that it was actually allowed on that server just so devs could learn from it.

I was just better + smarter than most players, as was evidenced by the high # of people who ridiculed me for rolling a cleric. Most them not making it past level 10. I will concede that it was hard fighting people who could just warp on top of me after entering a zone, but I spent the last week in Neriak/LGuk where no one else could even go to w/o dying.

Reset every month except for the points total winner who keeps character.

It'd have a horrible population but at least the pvp would be meaningful and the ghost town zones might actually serve as an advantage.

I led some stragglers fighting Darkenbane but most of them died out. And like the seaweedpimp says, people were scared shitless to even engage in pvp. We had a huge mexican standoff between our two sides on opposite zones of the gfay/bb zoneline that lasted hours. Nobody wanted to lose all of their shit.

Almost everyone played passively and would gate at the soonest sign of trouble, which is why playing a cleric was useful. I would blind and stun people so they couldn't do that.

The funniest/cruelest thing was when people would die to PvE mistakes.

There was a necro named Vumil who I did play with - very good player and would have been in the winners .... but died to a bad spectre pull. Three days before the server ended.

damn bro gratz, like i said i went thru a ton of ogres. leveling in feerott was the only option and those damn mystics who can blind took 2 or 3 of my toons out. for the most part i had no porblems with ogres but as soon as I hit swamp, trolls were always waitin on me to pull a mob. didnt make it too far but honestly i had a blast. after my 3rd or 4th toon death was just expected.

Or play call of duty. that would be about the same. You can name your character "Shaman" or "Druid" and pretend your grenade launcher was Starfire.

I admit it's been awhile, but.... Discord WAS classic for the most part yes? Aside from the implementation of beastlords obviously, which were still only playable by Barbarian unless you hax'd somehow and got to play Iksar like some people did.

I guess I know for 100% certain it was classic zones only, didn't pay enough attention to quests and spells back then tbh. Discord would be worthy of remaking with P99's antihax.dll because hacking, intentional lagging and plugging made the shit pretty weak near the end. No GM intervention = gnome wizards teleporting onto your shit in the middle of nowhere to nuke you to death.

No, technically Awakened from Darkenbane "won" discord. He had a mob named after him I think. The highest level character on the server at the end was Apostle, a 44 HE Cleric, also from Darkenbane.

There was a lot of PvP between the initial formation of the "anti-DB" group and the last week of the server when it was no longer worth leveling a character. It also dwindled because the "anti-DB" group did not have the healing output to succeed. Several large battles we had would end with maybe 1 or 2 deaths out of 25+ in the zone, but the deaths were almost always on our side. Strange I don't remember grouping with any other clerics during that time. I played Ysiel, a 29 human cleric until the server closed.

Discord was a fun novelty, but only because it was a sort of last hurrah for EQ PvP. SoL and PoP had ruined it, most of the better or more notorious PK's had retired, and Discord just brought everyone back for a few weeks. I'd be surprised if a new Discord would even manage 10 players logged in after a week had passed.

Discord was hardly a measure of PVP-prowess with how much blatant active hacking went on there. And I don't mean some faggot running at you across the zone with his mq maps, I mean full on speed hacking and warping.

At least it was that way over in the everfrost area.

Points are based on the victims, not the killer. Players can only gain points from characters that are within 20 levels of them and higher level targets will earn more points. The point total is distributed evenly between each person in a group with any fraction of a point rounded up to a full point. Additionally, if your character is slain, half of your earned kill points are lost.

^ some info from the actual Discord server. The "winners" mostly were people who stayed at the sweet spot, 20-24, where they could farm points 1 shotting fresh level 5s. Since very few players on that server even made it to 10, the higher levels didn't end up accumulating as many points.
