At first I thought it was just bad luck on my part, but after running into another player experiencing the same issue it seems it's more than just my bad luck:
The slam racial is broken.
Currently at level 19 with my Ogre shaman, and I haven't landed a single slam yet. Not once, not for even a single point of damage in the thousands of times I've pressed that hotkey. Didn't think anything of it until I grouped a level 14 Barbarian this morning and HE complained of never landing a single slam yet.
Are more of you large race players having similar issues? What about you melee out there, if you play a class that actually has bash as a learned skill does YOUR slam make contact or is it whiffing as well?
