Going to say farewell to everyone now and giving my account to my cousion not sure if he will play once a week even less than that. But with litterly ONE exp group for level 33 range per day last three days while being apart of the 5% population of the server the game has become dull and bland for me.
The reason I picked EQ was for the groups and the relationships built while leveling up, it was perfect 1-30 but once I hit 30 everything went down hill. The major exp zones in live Cazic Thule, Lower Guk, Paw, and even SolB are ghost towns and not used at all for leveling groups. All that leaves is ONE grouping spot in mistmoore as everyone is afraid to go INSIDE the castle which leaves the Castle Entrance which is half the time of the past 3 days been camped by people getting power levled.
Now with all the help I have asked for over the past 3 days the number one response from EVERYONE seems to be this. Re-roll a SOLO class so you can SOLO to 60 and THEN enjoy the game because you can afford to have better gear then SOLO those levels again becuase no one plays there, or pay for a power level "like everyone else". With power leveling costing 2.5k-3k per HOUR it is an option I can't choose because 1-33 I have only accumulated 2.4k gold so I can't even really afford ONE hour!
Seems to be with most all first timers who don't want to play a solo character and a group dependant character will play until these levels here then quit you really need to look at this issue maybe even offer double exp in the zones that are NEVER used because of the "bugs" in the zones.
But I will say it was a FUN 12 days even though there have been SIX nights with login issues (half), it is still well ran for a FREE game(besides the 25+ petitons I have sent for support with having a Sur name since my first one was deleted by a GM). So with all that being said I am going to take a few days rest from computer games go get some sunlight and wait for d3 if any of you are playing there (US WEST) you can reach me on character "Powahfull" or "Eyepk" and I wish everyone the best and future happiness on this EMU server.

those are the dumb soloers. all i said was roll a class that has spells. so when you look for a group they look at your spells not your gear. rogue is ALL gear. i made a wizard and get groups all day. i plan to get high lvl with him and then get some gear for perhaps a warrior or maybe a bard. but dam dude, your judging the whole game based on your rogue.

He's right. I started a Rogue, got to level 15 and realized that it's a waste of time to continue playing a Group-based class. Groups are scarce; let alone a group with an actual Tank/healer combo.
I sold all of my stuff and am now looking for necro gear. I dont wana solo but what choice does a person have especially with the IP exemption delay. I was going to play with my girl but cant b/c of that. People are saying they are still waiting 4+ weeks so i dont even bother considering it an option any more.
One thing i wish this server would do is increase xp rate. I know it's "Classic EQ" except for the things that they changed but the xp is so slow that I seriously doubt most returning players make it past lvl 30. It is what it is tho...

So if he slowed down a bit he may still get groups with those same ppl he had good times with?
(yeah it was rhetorical. Some ppl have no patience)

You can always make a caster class while continuing LFG for your Rogue.
- Kill mob
- Med
- /who all lfg 30 35
- Kill mob
- /who all lfg 30 35
- /tell X want to start a group if I hope onto my Rogue?
Also, I see you on sometimes around 12 AM - 6 AM (give or take) and that is the WORST times to look for a group. People are either sleeping, in East Commonlands, or expect to not be able to find a group and play on an alt that is able to solo.

Find a guild, or *gasp* take the initiative to start a group yourself

Actually I know first hand that he had started many groups. It gets to a point where there are not enough lfg people to start a group at times.

Rogues can get pretty tough to level at times because of the low population of lowbies. Was like that when i was leveling up aswell, don't give up bro. Time and patience is the key. Took me a bit too. Cheers!

A good RL buddy of mine rerolled a rogue. He has had zero grouping issues, most likely because he just don't sit /lfg in WC waiting for groups to happen. Oh, and he's on euro hours. I honestly hope you don't sit around waiting for groups with an "actual" tank/healer. The old "holy trinity" (war/clr/enc) of live was pretty unnecessary, not to mention bad.
And to the poster: I don't have the link right now, but someone pulled some server statistics, and 30-35 were BY FAR the least populated levels.

Sorry to hear that you are having a difficult time finding groups. I think it depends on what zones you choose, and on what time of day. If you reroll, i would suggest a Necro. Necros are awesome soloers, but can also be a good asset to a group!!

I have never been in a group where we refused anyone or complained about anyone because of gear.. ever. Not everyone is a twink. Not everyone wants to twins their characters.
I know that I always love having a rogue in groups. DPS is always a great thing. If you do find that grouping is scarce, try a different class for those times that it's difficult to get a group? I hate seeing people leave which is why we are all posting here but if in the end you are not having fun, then perhaps it's time to go for a while..
he has runin to the problem that my buddy has, if you are a group dependant char and make it to 35, outleveling Mistmoor, etc. it is difficult to find a group till about 35-47. as there just arent that many at that lvl

this does beg the question of what happens to all those people in groups on mistmoore once they too make it to 35.
Sounds like people need to quit PL'ing at the ledge area to the castle, it's a great place to level from 35-42ish.

OP
to me it sound like you only wanted ideal xp and grps when you was out their looking for grps.
You will not always get grp in ideal dungeon with good xp mod.
Their is plenty of places to get xp as long you accept that it not going to be best xp rate or ideal grp.
examples. overthere, frontier mountains, fiona vie.
a rogue grouped in a duo perty much with any class can do ok here. especially if you can get your hands on a snare procing weapon. again XP IS NOT GOING TO BE FLYING LIKE AN IDEAL XP GROUP IN DUNGEON WITH HIGH MOd, but you will get xp and get some progress done .
I have seen these many times people jst dont want to step outside the box and get whatever xp they can , they rather just do the ideal dungeons. that works fine if their plenty of people to grp with, but when their is not you need to open your mind to other options.
Thanks for listening

OP, you really missed out on how fun this server was before it started showing it's age. Dang it was a blast when the lower level population was still healthy. I stopped playing around the time it all started crapping out but as you said in your title, it was fun while it lasted.
I've made a few attempts to get back into it but the leveling up part of the game is dead. It doesn't help that I play at odd hours.
In my opinion anyone who suggests soloing to max level is missing the point of EQ. Without grouping what is EQ? It's like the crappiest single player game ever made is what it is. If you aren't grouping, if you aren't interacting with other players, if the zones aren't alive with other players doing stuff---well then it's just a very, very crappy, boring, and pointless grind.
I wish they could find a way to fix it but nobody seemed to like my suggestion of having a remort month and I don't have any other suggestions.
I'm just waiting for Velious now because I expect there will be a brief resurgence of interest when it opens. Everyone coming back for their nostalgia run throughs you know. It will probably be fun again for a while then before it peters out again.

The 30's are a pain in the butt. For some reason that level range is when people switch to a new toon. You logged before we could send you a grp invite last night. We went into Sol A and worked the fortress. Good time for all for a few hours.

I would say start with some foundation and then apply as needed. Never overdo it or you'll end up looking like a whore.

A Rogue is just about , well it is the worst class on here, to start as a noob or solo. So imagine my surprise it has been a hard row to hoe. Maybe a re think might be in order. P1999 still is the best thing going I think.

In fairness, there does seem to be a dead-spot in finding groups in the 35-45 range.
Been messing around with my 35 shammy and I haven't had a lot of luck with groups either, not that I've tried that hard, either. You really have to be proactive with groups here, more than on live. During this same time my buddy has had no problem finding or putting groups together on his monk. It's his first main here and he has been flying thru levels....I've been spotty this week, he's probably passed me by now. He throws together whatever group will move his bar and really isn't having any problems.
It's what you make of it, really.

Being in a good guild is pretty much needed now that there is less people playing lately. You have to figure nearly 50 to 75 people that are on are in the EC Tunnel most of the time. So that doesn't leave a whole lot of people to group with at times.

Ive managed to find groups from 40-45 in City of Mist pretty easy. Just gotta go out there and actively find groups rather than sitting in EC with /lfg on.
Mistmoore is decent still until 40, Just gotta be brave enough to hit the Dhamp area.

It's a shame about the IP exemption. I have been in two groups in two years on this server. Both were fun. I normally just duo. Me and my wife. Pally and a druid.
Of course, I'm the masochistic kind of paladin that does solo. Helped a lot once I got my clickies (Deepwater). Up to 45 though, me and my wife duoed. There are plenty of places.
I know I've mentioned on the boards that I've declined unsolicited group invites. I think someone above put it best: this game is what you make of it. There's min-maxing for fast advancement, but to me personally, this was never ever the intent of EQ until after the Velious era. This game was meant to be played slowly over a long period of time.
You can't "beat" EQ. Sure you could reach a personal final goal, or truly consume all of the content and have best-in-slot items in every slot for your class, but... that just defeats the idea of a persistent world in which you live as your avatar.
I remember all the silly shit I'd do in live (and here to a lesser extent) just wasting time. Hey! I wonder what's in that little house.
I still talk to NPCs as if they'd respond.
I guess my TL;DR version is "What's the hurry, man?"
If you only find XP progression to be worth the time to play, then chances are, you are playing the wrong game. EQ was not designed for that. It was designed to be a place to lose yourself.
I've loved my almost two-year tenure here. I hope this server stays open for at least three more with its current population.
We take breaks too. My wife is a time-starved player and I've wanted us to stay the same level. Two years, we're L51. I'm going to go log in now with or without her. I could be L52 today even if I just solo. I get a new stun at L52!
See you all in game!
