Spell Effects not showing up, MAC

I am running EQ on a MAC with wine. I downloaded the new files and placed where I think that I always place them into the Everquest folder, but now the spell effects won't show at all. I have spelnew.eff and .edd or whatever the other one is. I replaced them twice just to be sure. Why would this happen? What can I do?

It's all cosmetic, so you can just restore the original version if there's no other way to fix it. Not quite sure why this would be an issue with wine/Macs though.

How did you get the required p99 files at? the link in the "getting started" setup is dead and you can't download them anymore from there..

I would like to bring this back to life, as i never fixed the problem. Any suggestions?
