My recommendation would be to stop getting the loans, stop begging for help, and buck up and do this yourself. You will be much prouder if you do it yourself. This will teach you to work and not expect hand outs - which in the long run will make you so much more successful. It's what college and education were and are supposed to be.

This can be done. It's just a matter of how hard your willing to work at it. Get away from the hand outs and earn it yourself. I was able to earn my bachelor degree while working full time (40 hours) at my main job to live, then waited tables 4 or 5 nights per week to pay for tution/books, all while raising three kids.

My father did this as well. He earned his masters degree all while working @ Bell Helicopter, all while raising two kids with his wife who was a public school teacher...it's where I learned it. That's what taught me to never count on hand outs too. Hopefully my kids will follow in my footsteps too.

$4000 isnt that much by the way...if you pick up a wait tables job it's only 40 nights avg $100 each night. Can easliy be done in one or two months. :D

The 18k is just for the two semesters that I won't be getting in-state tuition at UNM (Long story). Then another 4 semesters of grad school at about $4k per semester. So when its all said and done I'll be at least $40k in the hole.

Why make myself miserable through school when I don't have to? I don't feel "unproud" of what I'm currently I'm doing. I work, I pay my own rent and take care of myself fairly well. Working 30 hours a week and taking five classes is crunched enough, I am definitely not getting another job.

Guess what - I work 50-55 a week at job (FYI - salary positions are just a way for them to screw you on OT kiddies!) and currently have 16 credit hours this semester - 17 last semester. 95% of the people I'm sitting in class with work full time (40+) a week jobs or even 2 jobs.
Can you honestly tell me you couldn't work more than 30 hours a week and attend school?

Instead of begging for money - go get another part time job. Deliver pizzas. Work in a video story. Hell - grind on a pole (if you can find the work...) - anything as long as YOU do it for YOURSELF.

I'd say more than 8 considering they require "considerable senior management level experience." If it's anything like IT you'll be 8 years in the trenches before making supervisor, then 5-10 to Manager, then 10 to Director, whereupon the Senior Management clock starts ticking... If you want to make 100k before 30 you need to be self employed (which of course means -100k is also possible :)

Ouch, it would take you 10 years to get to that point after Grad school AND have to live in Florida? Did you think about switching to Business, you'd be close to 6 figures in a few years out of school as long as you worked your ass off and proved you were an asset to the company. Or is it not about money and just love of city planning.

Also municipal governments are going to be doing some major belt tightening over the next 10 years do I wouldn't say those positions are guaranteed to always be there and paying 100k+

There's a reason you see urban sprawl out west and not out East. East coast is definitely designed better than the West.

NY is walkable, dense. Out west you're bound to a car to get anywhere. That's poor design.

Brasilia is about 4 times the size of L.A. and is designed infinitely better. I'm not sure size is a determining factor in how a city becomes planned well or not.
