I'm trying to twink a ranger, and have no clue what to get for a weapon ever since Kunark came out. Before it was SSoY or bust. If I want to stay 1k or under what weps should I look for. 1hs?

I'm assuming you mean lower level weapons lol as a ranger with SSoY deserves what he gets ;)
Green Jade Broadsword is 11/25, stats and saves, usable by War Pal Ranger only, and runs around 300p or so. Sword of Skyfire is 10/22 i think, has a stat + 25hps, and might run also around 300p. Wont proc till 45ish ? Either one would be great till you get dual wield. Both would be pretty good after as well for some time.

So the yak's suck for rangers now? Thanks for the tips.

eh what are they 8/24 ? I mean once they start proc'ing your gonna go splat alot so.....
Before they proc, 8/24 is not better than 11/25 or 10/22. They run 500p to 750 or so each also.
If your soloing I guess the stun + dd is nice when they proc. Before that.... ? Not sure how they could be better.

once SSOY starts procing, the mobs will eat you alive, your group tank will never get agro off you. Unless you soloing of course
But at low levels, you want fast, good ratio weapon: Skyfire and GJB are both much better than SSOY for that purpose

A lot of misinformation and/or Rangerhate here. Rangers are fully capable of tanking well into the 50s and it's usually their main function in groups.

I've been playing around with some weapons on my low level ranger
and just by seeing how fast things die I've found the
Silver Swiftblade is great for low levels.

I am sorry I angered thee, however I fail to see alot of anything here, much less misinformation. The ranger splat thing dates back approx 13 years, however I apologize for spreading ranger hate. I really do like them ( and for more than the DT thingy )
Sam Bradford is capable of playing football bro.
Tom Brady is damn good at it.
It's not the same thing at all.
Yes Silver Swiftblade is good, especially for skill ups and early levels, however later on you are probably gonna wanna a slower 2hs so you can cast between etc, dam bonus/delay stuff etc etc. And he specifically asked about 1hs.
Thanks

I understand what you are saying leezard..
thats why i said early levels lol
Like Nature's Wrath is probably a halfway decent 2 handed weapon later on.
http://wiki.project1999.org/index.php/Nature%27s_Wrath
but compared to other weapons at low level its absolutely horrible.

Is it true I will end up using 2hb or something later on and not duelwield for max dps?? Thanky

Duel Wield is most likely max dps.
but on a budget.. the two hand weapons are cheap.
I do fully agree though.. ranger can be a great dps if they go all out and put some plat down... don't go cheap on them arrows either... those can add some nice dps that most of the log parsers wont pick up.
Get off two or three shots while the monster is getting pulled.
Not even sure how this went from a thread about budget low level weapons under 1k for rangers to
look at the size of my epeen lulz

Sorry, its been awhile for me, but, What about Wurmslayer? I remember it being a fairly nice weapon for leveling up, until around lvl 50 or so. If this isnt the case, then i'm sorry.
*edit*
Then again, with this being Classic, this weapon might be a little costly huh?

yah wurmslayer is around 5k.. but it is a nice weapon as well.

Green Jade Broadsword: http://wiki.project1999.org/index.php/Green_Jade_Broadsword
Get this until you can duel wield:

I would stick with 2hnder. Casting in between swings is important. Once I worked out how to do it properly I increased my killing speed quite a bit. Was using silver swiftblade. Plus it looks cooler.

Silver Swiftblade to 20 - Woodsman's staff or Swarmcaller thereafter. That's it. Keep 1hs practiced for epics, but for no other reason... You won't have higher dps dual wielding, especially before 45+ or so.

I agree with messianic. Silver swiftblade is is a great, great twink weap. Woodsman is probably the best straight up DPS you'll have for a long, long, time. You'll generate less aggro, and can nuke between swings with no loss of melee dps. Dual wielding is for later.

What is the going rate on woodsman? Thought someone said very cheap here

Most of the advice in this thread is spot on. Keep some decent 1hs available to keep that skill trained up and use a Silver Swiftblade before 20. You can get that plus the recommended Sword of Skyfire and a Green Jade Broadsword all for under 1kpp. You may have to parse yourself after 20 to see which setup gives you the best DPS. I'm pretty sure Woodsman's staves are still pretty expensive, plus you're damaged capped under 20, so you may want to hold off on picking one of those up for a while.

5k ish for woodsman? 300 for swarmcaller, which is obscene for a weapon with that damage profile.
Definately level as 2h though. Pre-epic, being able to time nukes in between sword swings, without losing any swings due to the spell cast time, will increase your damage more then DW will. My nuke easily adds 25% of my swarmcaller's DPS if I use it every other swing. Self healing between swings can extend your effective health pool a lot as well. Watch out for threat though.

If you see a swarmcaller for 300, snag it immediately.
I've usually seen them 700-1k.

Eh... SSoYs are amazing, Rangers do amazing as tanks as well, in that they can snap aggro faster than most classes and hold it well as well. Given proper gearing they can tank most anywhere with a real healer.

Silver Swiftblade until you outlevel the damage cap.
Then get 2 Wurms or a Woodsman's staff.
I think 2 Wurms would > all til it's nerfed to primary only.

Woodsman's Staff! Hands down is the best. I bought mine for 3k. Use it at level 20 though. You get double attack and a damage cap gets lifted.
Slot: PRIMARY
Skill: 2H Blunt Atk Delay: 35
DMG: 31 Dmg Bonus: 80
This item is placeable in yards and houses.

I have every weapon in my bags listed on this thread, and woodsman's staff is the best

Q - what combo am I gonna see the MOST dmg the quickest? Am level 20, have a FBSS, and all skills maxed atm. I was using double Wurmys, saw on avg 50 dmg and max was 79, and was hitting pretty quickly and regularly. I swapped my main hand for a Lammy now, and see 15-25 dmg, with occasional 50 dmg from the offhand Wurmy. Still hittin fast and reg though. I've got 2 Acid Etched War Swords for lvl 37, for the stun and dd. Would I be 'smart' to switch to a Woodsman's Staff and forego the Wurmy/Lammy?? I don't have a dmg parser, so I can't properly 'see' how much dmg I'm truely doing and how fast!? Any suggestions?

The question is whether you want to use your spells or not. My swarm (can't afford woods yet) hits for a max of 58 (72 str buffed), with double attack, at lvl 23. Every other swing I throw in an ignite for another 37 dmg, which adds up to about 25% of my average melee dmg. The only melee that outdamages me is a twinked rogue.
I'm sure dual wurms is great and all, but if you didn't want to play a hybrid and use your spells, you'd be better off with a rogue imo. 2h really just meshes with the ranger's abilities better, and I'd take a small DPS hit any day (assuming there is one, which pre-epic I doubt) for the ability to nuke, cc, dot, or heal without losing any of my melee dps while doing it.
