I use wineq. After waking up I went to log into EQ, and I get the error "Program can't start because DSETUP.dll is missing from your computer. I don't know if its wineq related or Everquest folder related.

I was having the same problem. Downloaded the direct x from the link above. Didnt help. Went into the avast virus chest and restored the file. Error now Im getting a failed to initialize error. When restoring the file I noticed 2 similar looking files in my avast virus chest. One being DSETUP.DLL and DSETUP.dll not sure the difference really confused lol and could use any help

Computer is seeing the dsetup.dll As a virus without avast loaded.

I just noted that Avast decided to isolate this file for me as well. Which is mighty interesting as my computer shut down because I accidentally hit the power switch on the keyboard. So, wtfg Avast?

I am reinstalling EQ shortly to see if that remedies the situation, updates as I do.

edit - Restoring the file then causes EQ to "not start correctly." Which then tags the file as a virus with Avast.

I tried grabbing the new file from the updated server patch, my computer is renaming it.

this happened to me earlier.

just made an exclusion and its running fine :)

^ This. Just tell Avast to exclude the file or to ignore .dll scans when programs run and, after restoring dsetup.dll, EQ runs just fine. Saved me a headache of reinstalling EQ and retweaking UIs and all that business. :)

How do I do this?

When the message pops up that the file has been moved to the chest, you will have two options, one to exclude the .dll file from future scans, and one to report it as a false positive. Choose the first. Then open Avast user interface, go to Maintenance --> Virus Chest, right click on DSETUP.DLL and click restore.

Worked for me. I should have gotten a "You have gotten better at computers! (3)" message somehow. :p

I hit restore from the Virus Chest but it still doesn't work.

Where's the option to exclude the .dll file from future scans?

Where's the option to exclude the .dll file from future scans?

When I get the error from EQ, Avast also opens a red window announcing proudly (and rather stupidly, in this case) "SUSPICIOUS FILE BLOCKED". "Add the file to the scan exclusion list" is the first of two listed options.

Real-time Shields > File System Shield - Last checked should be Dsetup.dll. From here go to "Expert Settings" and then "Exclusions". Now add an exclusion for your file path. Mine is C:\Program Files\Sony\Everquest\Dsetup.dll

Now go to your chest and restore the file. Done.

Edit - The above method is to exclude it from executions. As in, when you start EQ it snatches the .dll. To remove it from manual and scheduled scans go to Settings->Exclusions and then enter the file path.

I had silent gaming mode on. I turned it off and I got the pop up. I added the file to the scan exclusion list and then restored it. I then ran everquest and got the same error. Looked in the Virus chest and the .dll file was there.

update your avast client and then:

Well, it's probably one of three things. Either you excluded it only under settings and not file-system shields, you forgot to restore the .dll or you made an error in the file path for the exclusion.

That's all I did and mine is working fine, so it definitely works. That or my avast wants me to get a virus.

Ok just an FYI. This is apparently becoming an issue with anyone using Avast on P99. If you use Avast anti-virus i would suggest adding an exclude for dsetup.dll and repatching that file.

Just now had this problem, I guess came with the latest avast! update, perhaps?
Added exemption, restored file. Worked like a charm...except this one doesn't break at the worst possible time. Hurr hurr hurr :B

Anyway, thanks guys. Cheers!

The other option you can do if you can't the single file path added to exemptions is to go under the "Scan when executing" tab of the "Expert Settings" of the "File System Shield" tab in Avast, and deselect the "Scan libraries (DLLs) while loading" option, though this then takes protection off any program on your computer. Quick fix though.

just started having this issue as well, and so far excluding the file hasn't worked for some reason, will dig into it more when i get some more free time.

IF you're having a problem excluding the file on avast, Uninstall avast and grab the file from the latest P99 Patch.
