Audio manipulation program?

Does anyone know of a good program to record audio, such as in Ventrilo? Also, for playing back audio on your computer, for instance, broadcasting an MP3 into the channel?

Audacity to record it? Or for routing there is Virtual Audio Cable, Wormhole, etc. I don't know all the programs that can reroute it all around, but there are several.

But you might be able to just set Audacity to record directly from your sound system as it plays. Unsure.
