I'm going to go out on a whim and answer this. ETA is unknown until its posted and if you died due to the server collapsing, Amelinda will resurrect you if you petition it.

before posting any whining about server stability think to yourself
"when was the last time i donated to 1999"
then go to your paypal add up the number of months youve played multiply by 10 then donate half of that to 1999

I'm confused. Isn't that what the step by step Starting Guide for EQ Emu already says to do? How were people doing it before?...

When I try to add patchme to the eqgame.exe file it gets to the server select screen but then when I choose a server it says "Instructions at XXXXXXXX referenced memory at YYYYYYYYY. THe Memory could not be read." Help me bman8810, you're my only hope!

Are you playing at high resolutions? If so, go into options right before the login, drop the resolution down, restart and try again. (You probably don't even need help anymore but just for future reference).
Also, yes that is the step from the EQemu website. That was actually how most of us used to have to log in (and we had to manually install patch files). However, now most of us use the patcher available in the tech support forms (Duxa's).
