The only thing you can do is go find another copy of that or those items. Petition wont work because it's not a bug, nor some exploit that is the cause of your loss.

its like you through a sack of trash into a paper shredder. but i really don't know for sure if they can retrieve the crap. i just dont think they will.
It seems to me, that I recall NPC's returning items to you immediately when you hand them crap that doesn't pertain to a quest they are involved in. they have some little phrase like "that has no value to me" or something of that nature. they probably implemented that on live to take care of the problem you have just run into. this is classic. the npc's are ghetto.

How do you "accidentally" give items to an NPC? I would think you would notice 1) the difference between your friend's name and the NPC's name 2) the difference in size/button names in the window for giving items to an NPC and the larger window for trading items with characters.
Hello, retard!
Google says that "accident" is defined as "An unfortunate incident that happens unexpectedly and unintentionally, typically resulting in damage or injury."
And wouldn't you know it, that is exactly what we're dealing with here.
Of course he should have noticed what was happening. But he didn't. That's why it's a mother fucking accident.

In the firearms community, a lot of people refer to unintentionally shooting a gun as an "accidental discharge" (Like, they stumbled and their finger accidentally pulled the trigger and they shot themselves in the foot.) What it really is, however, is a negligent discharge (they were neglecting one or more rules of firearm safety).
That's what happened here. Not an accidental giving, a negligent giving.

Not an accidental giving, a negligent giving.
When your kid/nephew/grandson spills a glass of milk, do you introduce him to the backside of your hand while yelling "CRY OVER THE NEGLIGENTLY SPILLED MILK! THE FIRST RULE OF DRINKING MILK IS TO NOT EVER SPILL IT! THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS AN ACCIDENT!"?
You can say that there are rules governing every aspect of human existence, such that no mishap however small can ever be called anything but negligence (or even recklessness). But that would be breaking one of the real rules of human existence, that being "don't be an idiot."

I'm not sure what your problem is
Your inability to pick up on the plain meaning of things.
1. You don't understand how an unfortunate incident that has happened unintentionally and has caused damage is an accident, despite that being the dictionary definition of the word.
2. You don't understand that this is what my problem is, despite the fact that I explained, rather plainly, that this is what my problem is in a post that you quoted (and so, I assumed, had read).

The OP said it was an accident, people ragged on OP for being careless saying it wasn't an accident, person explained exactly how it could be an accident by citing what accident means.
IMO he was supporting the OP not knocking it.

Tough break, bro. Try to forum petition, but I doubt you'll get a reimbursement. I'm sure there are plenty of people willing to throw you and your friend some lowbie gear. What level and class are you guys?

Haven't tried all NPC's but the ones in Grobb give your stuff back and tell you they cannot use them. Mobs take them but you can kill them to get it back.

you two should just start a thread of your own and spit on each others e-peen. There is a thought, "I spit on your E-PEEN, It's not bigger than mine!" could be the title.

Accident and negligent aren't mutually exclusive folks. Accident is a noun and negligent is an adjective. Negligent therefore can describe an accident. Basic grammar people.

I think several unfortunate incidents occur here. So it would be correctly labeled as "I made accidents" per transaction.
