I understand you guys are extremely busy and do this for free, you don't have to keep rehashing this point to me as I've said in numerous posts how much I appreciate what you guys do.. But for reals, is there any possible way of patching in ANY of these issues being worked on that are completed? Or at least giving us a legitimate eta instead of "soon". Perhaps at least open up fear/hate/solro temple/any kind of new content? lol.

I feel bad for Amelinda tbh. You guys are leaving her out to dry.. she always has to play damage control and try and put a positive spin to all of us that "yes, things are being worked on and fixed and changes are coming soon!" when nothing has been done in months.

I'm losing hope for this server everyday. I don't want to continue to log in finding little to no pvp and continuing to have to waste hours upon hours camping shit if the server is going to be dead in another month or two. Peak pop today on a saturday afternoon were barely over 100 (and there is still no global ooc despite terribly low population every night, coud we at least get that started for a test run?)ANY kind of change or new patch at this point would at least pump some kind of life however miniscule it may be, it would at least encourage people to log in and show that you guys are actively working on fixing all these annoying bugs such as proc exploiting (HUGE ISSUE), tweaking resists and lowering spell dmg so every pvp fight lasts longer than 10 seconds and is actually fun. I understand these are more of the main issues at hand, but still ANY kind of fix/patch would be greatly appreciated by all of us.

Please don't take this as me bitching at you guys about how you run the server - you guys obviously do a damn good job with it. I know our pop isn't as large as blues and maybe you guys think it doesn't deserve as many resources, but if you guys show more interest in us and the server by at least communicating with us ffs, making fixes more frequently than once every two months, and start opening new content I think a LOT more people would be logging in every night and the server could flourish again.

Not saying you have to PL them but at least interact with them in some way as alts or something relevant.

I have already leveled multiple toons to the mid 30s on this server and rerolled because the guilds I was with would all dissolve and the members would quit.

With my newest character I realized there is just no one to interact with period.

No one to pvp, no one to talk to, no one to group with. I play EQ because I like the old style MMOs require interaction and coordination from other people unlike the new "Do everything your self" style MMOs.

When there is no one to interact with, why the fuck would a new player play. I'm not saying people who have already been playing have an obligation to help or group with newbs.

But if you care about fresh blood on your server that's probably the best thing you can do to help them stay.

It's not about me, it's about people on this server (majority who STILL play being high level) to interact with the mid-to-low level people in order to keep people from quitting the server.

It would be ideal for staff interaction/involvement to be the main catalyst for population retention, but since that isn't happening someone needs to step up.

Myself and Samwise have tried starting a newbie friendly guild for people new to the server, but we can't be on all the time.

I have personally seen people join the server have a blast until the late teens until the population runs dry, then have no one to interact with (friend or foe) and quit.

I was putting out ideas to save the "current" server, I'm not blaming high level players.

I'm talking about picking up the slack for lack of staff involvement "if" you wanted the server to survive.

I also said "if" the staff doesn't feel like being involved any more since it was just a hobby they could give back by providing the source code they have refined.

I really hope one of these three things happen:

1. Server staff gets much more involved and population bounces back (unlikely)

2. Dedicated players get involved and population bounces back (highly unlikely)

3. Staff admit they aren't as enthusiastic as before, take credit for HUGE contributions to the "Classic EQ EMU code" and provide source code for someone who does want to be involved with the community to do so. (extremely unlikely)

They're just in a panic their server population is fading into nothingness. They want to stir up any drama, any posts, anything at all that can get people thinking about red as opposed to blue. It used to be 2:1 blue to red population when red launched. Then it went down to 3:1 in a hurry.
Nowadays Im not surprised to see 5:1 population most nights.

EQ was not designed as a PvP game. Most of the PvP is fucked and pretty unbalanced. Thats the reason why there were only a couple of PvP servers when there were 30+ other servers running on live. The EQ community, even back then, acknowledged EQ is not a good PvP game by simple supply/demand of PvP servers.

The problem with these red fanatics is they played EQ during their teens (mostly) and have nostalgic memories of playing EQ PvP. Its amazing what nostalgia will sometimes do to people.

In a couple months there will be 50 or 60 people average (if that) and that is about where I suspect the sever population will stabilize around. If you look at other emu servers a population of 50 or 60 is sustainable.. just not much fun for the participants.

I never played EQ PvP back on live.

But playing on this server has shown me how much more dynamic PvP can make stale old boring ass EQ (still the best MMO i have ever played).

I hate to see it go to waste because it had the unfortunate timing of being released simultaneously when the P99 developers also got burned out after years of providing content for ungrateful whiny P99 raiders who constantly used MQ and SEQ while also RMT'ing shit instead of letting smaller guilds get a shot at mobs.

This classic EQ EMU community as a whole is shit, it really makes me disappointed. This is the most interactive dealing with people-iest (if that makes sense) MMO ever.

I will also say, the only 2 people I have seen help and contribute the way I think is important to the server so far is Dekadenz (even though I think their huge guild is bad for the server in general), Samwise (he actively ports newbs around for groups, plays alts for fun, and hunts newbs out and connects them with others through our guild).

A couple others give out some gear and stuff but they don't interact with others the way that is needed for the server to survive.

IMO: Make Samwise and Dekadenz guides, ban all assholes who exploit.

This is really a Rogean specific question. He does server administration, management, ensures hardware is up and running, patches, and source development when he can. We have different jobs. I lead content development, management, bug fixes, and train new developers. Null is a pvp-specific developer and does pvp source work when he can.

This requires taking the server down and doing horrible work for I would guess around 30 minutes to an hour, depending on what all needs to be done. If Rogean is too busy to do it, I can totally see why. He's the only one who can give you a concise eta.

As far as new content, fearplane is the next slated zone to open.

Nothing really I can say to this other than, I don't want the server to die either. Why would I? Essentially it's an exact copy of p99, with pvp enabled and oldschool loot dropping. There could be a hell of a lot more people playing for a lot of reasons. With everything that has been repaired, fabricated, and implemented since pve opened in 2009, the pvp server is like 9000x more complete and stable.

Community needs to come to grips with the fact that this is NOT live, and that the developer's and people behind this project do this for free, and is a hobby of theirs.

Just because OUR time, as players time invested into this hobby outpaces them, doesn't mean they're not doing their job. As an analogy I'll use World of Warcraft, they'll come out with a big PVE raid content patch, and within 2 weeks the best guilds will destroy the content and be begging for more-- so did the developers fail because they couldn't keep the hardcorest of the hardcore busy?

Bug fixes, small patches, etc are a totally different story but the day that you clicked "Play" on this server you should have reminded yourself that this is a hobby project and not something that deducts $14.99 from your bank account each month.

If we were paying customers I could understand. If you're not happy with the state of the server, then simply stop playing, as some people have.. and know that you have a toon to come back to IF and WHEN devs do fix the issues at hand here.

Spamming the forums with "BURN IT DOWN" and "WIPE IT CLEAN" will get this community nowhere, and I'm sure doesn't do much to appetize developer attention.

Be patient. P1999 BLUE has over 600 players primetime, and overall is a success-- give it time people.

My biggest concern is with the fact that (supposedly) over 200 people between blue and red have been flagged as using cheats but haven't been banned yet. I'm guessing the ban waves for cheats don't happen until Rogean is ready to patch the server, which means these people have been cheating with impunity for a while. Obviously I can tolerate this because at least we have some kind of cheat detection and there's way more justice for cheaters than there ever was on Live, but it's still annoying and unfair for the people playing legitimately.

Don't take this the wrong way though, I think nilbog et al. are the greatest and I will always have fun with this server. I have no illusions about the amount of work that gets put into it, and I can live with never having a patch because it'll always be better than vztz, amirite? ;)

This is really a Rogean specific question. He does server administration, management, ensures hardware is up and running, patches, and source development when he can. We have different jobs. I lead content development, management, bug fixes, and train new developers. Null is a pvp-specific developer and does pvp source work when he can.

All of the pending fixes require a full patch. This requires taking the server down and doing horrible work for I would guess around 30 minutes to an hour, depending on what all needs to be done. If Rogean is too busy to do it, I can totally see why. He's the only one who can give you a concise eta.

As far as new content, fearplane is the next slated zone to open.

Nothing really I can say to this other than, I don't want the server to die either. Why would I? Essentially it's an exact copy of p99, with pvp enabled and oldschool loot dropping. There could be a hell of a lot more people playing for a lot of reasons. With everything that has been repaired, fabricated, and implemented since pve opened in 2009, the pvp server is like 9000x more complete and stable.

It would be nice for me as well. As a content developer, I'd like for there to be patch every time a change is made. If there's a broken quest or unhotfixable issue, it amplifies time spent on reimbursements, etc etc.

The servers are almost identical. This should be apparent, but I will say it anyway. The pvp server has received more attention since release than the pve server. I know I spent more time this week working on pvp issues than pve..


Uh... we do communicate with you. And to this comment, I lose the will to type much more because I feel like I was trolled into responding. As a community, the pvp population had way more input into initial server launch and features than the pve server ever has.

Once again, when you see something that says fixed, pending update, it means it is fixed. Needs a patch to be fully implemented.

I admit I was bitter when I made that post as I hadn't heard anything from any of you guys in a very long time. i'm not denying you communicate with amelinda or don't make a fix everyday I shouldn't have used that word, my bad. I was more talking about not hearing from you null or rogean in a good long while, which in turn just makes everyone start acting like a retard and making 500 server dead threads. i have seen a lot of "fixed pending update" posts, and didn't quite understand what had to be done in order to do a patch like that, my mistake and I apologize.

Posts like that really help players out to know the processes you guys have to go through in order to put in a patch like that.. I'm sorry you feel I trolled you into responding, that was definitely not the case. I just wanted a legitimate answer from a dev that the server is going on in a good direction and could explain it better, that's all.
