I think I saw screenshots of Kelethin and thought "no", without ever giving it a fair chance.
I tried it in beta. Enjoyed it a bit.

Was one of the first 50's on CLW (5th), was pretty decked out with twinkle / twilight and Robe, then i came late for frontiers, but leveled up a SK to raid with in the new 60 content. Was a fun game.

IIRC I played on Hodstock as a Dwarf Warrior by the name of Citrona. I left the game a few months after attaining my epic swords. I recall a rather satisfying experience in EQOA; in fact, I miss the game to some extent.

Best part of that article?
As a side note on where Dean’s account ended up. Well, at some point in 2004, he got fed up with everything and decided to move on. He had 4 CVs, the spectre robe (rarest item in the game), maybe 50 million tunar, several level 60′s, and the most noted warrior in the history of the game.
What was someone willing to shell out for that? $1,200. Which by my rough calculations, equates to $0.27 an hour. Time well spent.

EQOA was my first MMO and i loved it.
Castle Light Wolf (CLW)
I had a 60 Animator, 60 Defender (main tanked), 60 assassin, 60 LICH ??? 60 Pyromancer... Dual boxed it up (was only 13-14 when i played) sooo much funnn
I had CV, and SM... Character names were Rozarmi, Razortamer, Razortamor, Razorwrath. Guy named Mrmono gave me his account :) 60 barb warrior
Met my wife on EQOA :) she played 60 wizard. married her at 18 (23) now lol still going strong.
Gnatte was my GM Shout out to Gnatte hes above me posting picks lol
Finally moved on after my account was stolen from a friend he robbed me blind and deleted my razor characters lol lesson learned.. oh to be young and dumb... such an epic game though.
Move don to play FFXI... which was just as good or not better.

I can't imagine playing a mmo on a console. Did people use keyboard/mouse to play or was that not possible?

I was on marrs fist i had a 60 sage(nec) and a 60 slayer. I was well known on my server i had 3 sm robes one which i scammed off a player named sirradittz and i KS'd vox and multiple other raid mobs. i caused alot of grief i also had a alt that nobody knew was me which was a level 60 bard and that was the only way i could play the game to the full extent because i ruined my rep i was in knights templar which hated my other characters. i had 1500 cms on my nec and he also never lost a duel. My sk had his 60 epic and PoS armor along with weapons from noroxous. I started off on FH there i had a pre-fronts account which had a level 50 barb warrior i was in the guild Dark Knights of Tier Dal which was my favorite eqoa experience ever and i also was one of the first with a CV on FH. I almost forgot one thingi had on my slayer was the all black level 45 crafted armor for SKs that nobody else had and someone actually tried to rob it off me multiple times.

I can't imagine playing a mmo on a console. Did people use keyboard/mouse to play or was that not possible?
There was a PS2 keyboard available. Most players used one and it was significantly easier if you did. I'm unsure about a mouse being available as well.
This was the primary issue with EQOA however. Not only was it one of the very few PS2 games that required the modem attachment AND a monthly subscription, even more hardware was needed in order to play the game more comfortably (ie, the keyboard) which once again was required by virtually no other PS2 game other than this singular title.
For people coming from the EQlive world the added $100+ investment might be deemed acceptable, possibly even money well spent. But for a person completely new to the Everquest universe -- or parents buying the console for their children -- such additional purchases were risky at best. At worst they were a complete waste of money because Playstation itself never really leveraged the usage of these items beyond the EQOA title.
For all it's dumbed down functionality (which it had to have) and shoddy/blurry graphics, I really did like the game world itself. I thought they did a great job with what they had to work with and places like Blackburrow and Runnyeye were quite interestingly designed. It did suffer from having too linear of a quest progression, but players all having progressive class quests was (at the time) a welcome design change from what EQlive started with. At the same time however, that dumbed down functionality hindered the game tremendously.
Now with today's consoles the setting is there for games of this nature to both succeed and even thrive. EQOA simply came out ahead of it's time.
