I know everyone that is a programmer/gm for this server works damn hard, but was just wondering when to expect the release of the 3rd expansion? A lot of different dates and guesses are thrown around but nothing is in stone from what I can tell. My guess would be anywhere from early April to late June but I honestly have no clue.
This post isn't intended to rush anyone but to gauge when my/many others favorite xpac of the game may become available.

We have had a rush of new players the past couple months, so honestly wouldn't mind see it being put off so others can join in the higher end game.
But to answer your question, I believe no know knows but pure speculation

for all intents and purposes, never. Maybe in a rough form in another year if we're insanely lucky.
unless there is a magical team of devs working behind the scenes on velious that no one knows about, i wouldn't expect it any time soon. Velious is far more complex than kunark between the multiple faction, dozens of raid encounters, triggered events, etc.
Almost every raid encounter in kunark was broken to some degree at one point. It took 3-4 patches to get just trakanon right, imagine that x all of ToV, Kael named, Yelinak, Dain, ring war, plane of growth, zlandicar, klandicar, sleepers tomb, wuoshi, etc.
Now imagine the 2 non server admin devs quit this year, at least 1 kunark expansion dev got burned out / pissed and quit, and the server admins have shown decreasing interest in the server for the last 6 months. It's not their job, it's a hobby, people's interests change and velious is a huge, daunting task.
The server is great for what it is, but if you're putting off joining or coming back for velious, don't hold your breath.

I don't think Velious is impossible or terrible and insane to do. Not to mention there's some "fun" things to get working, which, let's be honest helps progress.
You don't know what's working right out of the box for them just yet.

I think less content is better right now, keeps the player base closer together.
More content spreads everyone out and zones become wastelands.

+1, with swtor out the devs have mostly gone to that I've only seen nilbog actually working on anything but that was around a month ago from the last update

This makes me sad, but I think you're right. I was really surprised when they released epics when they did, because it was so soon after VP and that made so many of the VP items obsolete. If they wanted to keep new content flowing I think they would have waited for 2-3 more months on epics with the theory that Velious would then be coming some months after. Basically it seems to me that the admins/devs have simply gotten lost interest in the server at the moment. I don't blame them; this has probably been way more work than they thought it would be. I can't imagine Rogean enjoys getting woken up the day after his birthday to reset the server.
What I would love to see is a post by Nilbog recruiting more developers.

Uthgaard is apparently back as a developer.
Kanras and Haynar have still been plugging away at bug fixes, so I'd imagine the rest of their crew are around too. I'm not sure who is responsible for epic progression now that Xzerion isn't a dev, but I hear Uthgaard had a hand in Kunark so he's probably working on velious too.
I would not expect to hear anything until epic drama dies down and Kunark content has become old, but a Velious beta late this year (even if the beta runs for 6 months) seems pretty likely. The more complex the quests, the more time you'd want people to spend on them testing before release. And once Kunark becomes stale, they can do rounds of 'forced beta' again without too much crying.

I wouldn't be upset if they had to release Velious in stages. Maybe we could get Iceclad Ocean first, then Eastern Wastes, then Crystal Caverns, etc. It could be a way of easing the load on the devs.
Show some dev love on P99! :D

i can see velious coming out this year possibly, though in 2 months itll be a year that kunarks been out, so i personally hope that by the end of this summer or beginning of this summer itll be out

Pretty much just read Shiftin's post, it sums up everything. Dev's have more or less grown tired of it. Red99 was the last motivation they had and look how it turned out.

Should we dig up the posts about how kunark/vp/epics/red99 were never going to be released?
The whole server has always been on a slow march forward. Not fast enough for some people, but rather than look impatient themselves, they make unfounded assumptions about how the dev team works.
Development and beta testing began 4(?) years ago, server didn't actually go live until late 2009. 1.5 years later we got kunark, and in the last few months we saw the hole, vp, epics, and a pvp server. But because Kunark has been out for 10 months that's enough for some people to start saying the management has stopped caring.
Anyway, I'm mostly posting in this thread so I can more easily find and bump it when Velious comes out so shiftin et al can eat their words.

What will the discussion pertain to after Velious has been active for 6 months? Server population stagnation? Everyone saying their goodbye to all their virtual friends? Argument over Luclin?... no rush on velious please.

I don't know, but I can't wait to read about it on the forums.

Nilbog has quoted before people suggesting things like custom content. Possibly branch the two servers - one stays locked at Velious, one continues on with custom content.
But it's all a long ways off. It'll depend on who all is around at the time Velious is finished, and what they feel like doing then. They have lots of options (custom content, go on with Luclin, or something where they try to continue on in the spirit of the expansions, with the content, but keep game mechanics more classic). It'll be interesting, I just hope they don't decide to let it sit.

However, more content brings a lot of people back plus probably new people. I see what you're saying with spreading people out, but consider how much content is equally in Velious. That said, it should be quite some time before it's released and this is for the better.

+1
The upshot (with having a content ceiling) is that eventually people will catch up with the average level and find people to group with. I've had some of the best fun grouping up in Velk's Lab (in Velious) and that wouldn't have been possible if players weren't at that higher level.
