So I am wondering if I'm crazy for even thinking to start a new toon and keeping him untwinked. I currently have a Ranger that I have semi twinked, but I am having a hard time getting into him. I am thinking of rolling a Shaman, Troll (for regen), and keeping him untwinked...
Tell me what you think...am I crazy or should I just go for it?

lots of people out there starting new on the server, just group with them, solo might be hard untwinked.

Yeah that's what I'm afraid of. I know as a Shaman I won't have a hard time finding groups, but was worried about solo. My other choice was a Druid....

I started new and untwinked a few months ago. Doing quite well as a Cleric. Don't for a minute think it can't be done. Quite frankly, this is what made EQ fun. Building your character from scratch. Killing for loot to wear, and making those good deals in the EC Tunnel. Roll him up and enjoy EQ the way you did in the beginning.

Yeah, I already have a Mage and a Bard, but looking for something different and working my way up.

Not for a shaman.
Kill decaying skeletons for a couple hours, sell the bonechips, buy full banded and a 50pp weapon, and you might as well be a twink.
I mean the first 24 levels will be slow, and you won't really be on a roll until 34 when you get a pet... but it's still not going to be "1999 this is your first MMO" slow or "untwinked rogue who only can play in the A.M." slow or "troll shadowknight" slow.

Lots of classes don't need any gear whatsoever to level okay. Basically any caster, and a rogue in a group with even a bad dagger will still do good DPS just mashing backstab.

Honestly bards require about as little gear as possible. 10pp will be more than enough for a vendor horn, drum, and lute, and those will take you to planar levels faster than any other class. Just enjoy running circles, lots of them, for a long time.

Starting from scratch isn't too hard. I did so with another last week and have found the people of this server extremely helpful. Some offered gear they didn't need and some offer spells.
There's also a decent amount of people leveling up so grouping is an option as well.

Who needs to twink their toon when there's so many twinked toons on this server already? Just play a class that can fill a group role and you're golden. Let all the other twinks do the heavy lifting.

Yeah I think a Necro can get by with no gear also. A melee class with a sucky weapon is pretty frustrating. Warriors have some pretty cheap weapons they can buy in the tunnel.
A crap weapon on a Shaman at low levels would suck also.

Yep.
Usually a handful in Nro to start a derv group, I did 10-12 in Nro. Did 12-15 in Oasis and we had about 30 people there last night. High levels come through and buff at the docks. Daliant, a cleric rolled through and click rezzed a bunch of people too.

Thankfully the mid-tier market is underpriced. Basically its "BIS or GTFO", which works great for mid-level gear.

means not enough people on the server in the mids to buy the influx of mid gear!
With the MAC people comming over that might change, get it while its cheap!
