Greetings Project 1999!

My name is Bashur, I'm the creative writer/director for a series called "Legend of Hobo", it's a silly Minecraft machinima on Youtube ( http://www.youtube.com/bashurverse ) and I was blown away when I came across "Project 1999".

I have a huge history with EverQuest, and this is something that literally almost made me cry knowing that it even exists. I logged on just a few minutes ago and just was BAM! Blown away by the insane amount of nostalgia that hit me in the face!

I have a few questions, as I don't want to ruin the server or anything, but how many can this server hold before it starts to crash/lag/etc etc? I don't want to announce it to my fanbase if it's going to cause the server to overload. And two, is there anyway I can get the original EQ interface? The really tacky one that looked like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YWisI2lSc_A

That's how I remember playing, and I would give anything to play like that again.

Thanks,
Bashur

P.S. Thank you, so much, for doing this.

Server around kunark launch was sitting at like 1600 or so and really wasn't laggy outside of a few instances of like Oasis docks with 300 people standing at it and crap like that.

Also, not really possible to get the old old UI, closest you can get is the Velious UI one.

First off, welcome to the server bro! Hope ya have a good time..and ive seen it hit over 1000 people with no problem at all,so i would assume it could hold well over it.

Heya and welcome to the server. You better tell your fanbase quick, more people are always good for the server. And im sure it can handle them. As for the UI you can see all the aviable UIs with pictures here:

http://www.project1999.org/forums/showthread.php?t=11949

i think theres a somewhat classic UI aviable too. If you look at the "Getting started" page you can also get classic Loading-screens, sounds/musik and the classic login client.

You can also get Classic spell icons and Duxa's wicked easy all-in-one installer. And remember that not everyone has to buy Everquest Titanium to play. Some people prefer to rrent it.

I'll be announcing this to them soon'ish, thanks for the great replies!. Few more questions:

1: I can't get the name Bashur for my character, is there anyway to make this possible or?
2: I'm rolling a Dark Elf Cleric, what do you all suggest I put my points into during character creation? I remember that where you distribute your points back in the day really made a difference.

Thanks guys!! And sucks about the very classic UI =(

Nice thanks!

Is Knuckles in charge of names?

No, Knuckles is some attention driven whore who thought he was above all and deserved a name he was "known" by from another emu server.

Best bet is to friend Bashur and stalk them to see if the player even plays the toon then try and provoke them to delete or name change for you.

Same here, it was like finding that old Zelda game for your nes/snes and learning you have THREE EMPTY SAVES TO USE!? It was like a birthday the first time you finally get your character made and see someone other than you running around swinging at beetles and bats, with the old EC tunnel still alive and port services abound!

You -should- be able to enable that old ui through a command, I remember there being options for it during the switch on live.

Minecraft rocks, and totally bomb your fanbase, P99 is the sh!t, its real EQ, none of that sissy stuff they released later *coughpokcough*

I'm a pretty big Minecraft fan, although I'm pretty bored with it lately after playing so much for a year and a half. Minecraft and EverQuest are fairly similar in a way.

but how many can this server hold before it starts to crash/lag/etc etc?

As long as people are spread out, I'm sure the server can hold 2-3 thousand. More new players would be a welcoming addition.

is there anyway I can get the original EQ interface?

The closest we can get is a velious look-a-like, since the client we use is more modern than what was available back in the day. This is actually a good thing, however, as the actual classic client would have many problems running on today's computers due to advances in operating systems and etc.

I can't get the name Bashur for my character, is there anyway to make this possible or?

*new* characters may petition to get a name that is taken as long as it meets certain requirements on our end (the character in question hasn't logged in in a very long time and is low level. In your case, Bashur is a level 1 that hasn't logged in since April 20th 2010. I would have no problem granting you this name.

I'm rolling a Dark Elf Cleric, what do you all suggest I put my points into during character creation?

No, Knuckles was Kimmie's cat. RIP

Knuckle trolled everyone with the "the name Knuckle" thread and some (you) dumb b's fell for it. TAKE THAT

Get to advertising again. People love free games.

I think a classes section would help new comers as well, along with giving people something else to do while they med/camp things (make class guides)

Rogean

Let's talk about the class forums for a bit. They were requested several times in the past.. but I always felt like they would just clutter the forum (14 boards?) and not really have many active posts in them.

What if, though, I made a single Class forum, and in that forum there was a thread for each class?

Discuss.

Thread will become useless, as you will need to search or look through every page for specific things.

I think he means like the wiki which already exists... just with less clicks to get there? I could be interpreting what he is asking for wrong.

I think most people would be happy with that, or even 3-4 divided by class type, i.e. War/Pally/SK, Rog/Monk/Ranger, Mage/nec/wiz/enc, Clr/dru/shm.

There is probably not enough traffic to warrant each class as you said, but one forum w/ mult threads, or a section w/ 3-4 sub forums might just be the ticket.

Just to expound upon what Rogean said here....he said NEW characters. Doesn't mean that you can petition at level 30 and say "Well i always tried to get this name and never could...." :(

Note the use of the word "NEW" in his post.

I like the archetype idea, but there are different types of archetypes.

Like, you could have either a Melee archetype, which would cover War, Mnk, Rog.. or you could have a Tank type, which would cover War, Shd, Pal...

Other than that though the rest could probably be split into..

Int Caster
Wis Caster

This.

I don't really think they would be "clutter," seeing as you could just put a "Class Forums" header with all the individual forums underneath them way down at the bottom of the forums root. No one except the people scrolling down specifically to find them would ever even know they were down there.

Hooray, more players!

I came over and brought three people with me from that fairly new Star Wars MMO, maybe you've heard of it?

We're gluttons for punishment.

That's how it's split on the wiki, Rogean, and it works fine there, think you have a winner idea.

Speaking of the wiki, should probably get a link going on in the forum link bar, having it only buried in the library subsection isn't really new user friendly.

btw I'm being told that suddenly many people are petitioning for name changes because of what I posted on page 2. I did put astericks around the *new* players part, because we aren't going to be changing names of people who are high level or have been playing a while. It only applies to someone who had just created their character, didn't get their name, so they petitioned to see if it could be made available.

14 is a lot, but is there any way with vBullitin to make the 14 sub-forums only visible once you click into the Class Forums section? I know the Simple Machines forum has that feature.

Other than that, archetypes would probably be best for the sake of minimizing clutter: melee, int caster, wis caster would be fine. SK/RNG/PAL/BRD would just have to look around between a couple of the forums.

Good.

I just started and both of my names are taken, so I'll be petitioning tonight on both characters.

It's best to actually petition on the message boards for me under petitions/exploits.

Since It makes it easier for me to keep a record of whose name needs changeing etc and i can get rogean to do it for us. :)

as far as forums for classes and so forth. Should probably do something along the lines of roles played.

Melee
Tanking
Healing
Caster

Followed by maybe

Tips/tricks - Things that may not fit into any of those categories and all classes could post comment in for things like pulling techniques.

Camp guides are also super useful for people starting and returning to the game.

What are the most ideal camps in like five level ranges based on mob level.
