I've been doing some research into the earliest implementation of the Shaman epic. Some of the sources I've found suggest that the Iksar Broodling spawn mechanic was different than the version we see here. Here's a link to a late 2000 walkthrough of the Shaman epic, it even lists the pre-upgrade spear stats with the effect as a proc.

Plane of Fear ( Loot and Run ! )
à Kill Iksar Child in Plane of Fear in the little pyramid at LOC ( -630, -360 ). Respawn time is (currently…) 60 seconds and hes level 1 and got about 15HP
Loot : Child`s Tears
And here's a post on Allakhazam's page for the broodling:
http://eqbeastiary.allakhazam.com/search.html?id=5627 (http://eqbeastiary.allakhazam.com/search.html?id=5627)
As has been mentioned - this MOB is required for the Shaman Epic.
The spawn rate has changed. Originally it was a 60 second spawn. Now of course you have to kill one of 3 'mini-bosses' on the Plane of Fear.
I haven't found anything that suggests the golems were part of the Shaman epic earlier than the 2001 revamp of the planes that made them more serious minibosses. I'd guess that's when the change happened.

Another link. This walkthrough has wayback archives from October 2000 and a few later dates, giving a pretty good hint at when this change happened. For some reason it's black text on black background, so highlight the text to read it.

Proceed to the Plane of Fear and slay the Iksar Child. The Iksar Child is in the little pyramid at -630, -360, +130. His respawn time is (currently) 60 seconds. Contrary to early reports, you do not have to kill Cazic Thule to get the Iksar Child to pop. Super easy kill. One blast of your best DD spell would be considered overkill.
TIP: If you are not interested in clearing Fear to obtain the Tear, wait until another raid clears Fear, run to the pyramid, kill the Child, loot the Tear and gate out!
Whatever method you employ, loot the Tear from the Iksar Child.

Proceed to the Plane of Fear and slay the Iksar Child.
It is now reported that the Iksar Child is a broodling and that you must kill a Golem (likely Fright) to get the Child to spawn.

Would that make the shaman epic beat the rogue one as the easiest epic in game? oO? The only real fight you have to do then is Rak Ashiir, everything else could be skipped...

It would still be pretty tight even if you have nobody trying to get the mobs you were. If it were a race and you had a full team with you ready to go with you doing it the normal way would probably be faster than skipping it, considering you have to wait for respawns if you are redoing parts. If the rogue couldn't get all the pre-kunark stuff before the race started, Shaman might finish first in that case.
Sorry for being off track, I can't believe the Shaman epic was even easier. I guess you'd still have to piggyback off a fear clear or something anyways or make a sick train to get that 60 second spawn by yourself. Would be pretty fun to try!

Amusingly enough the walkthrough from here (http://web.archive.org/web/20001019025923/http://home.elp.rr.com/wolfclan/alchemy/spearfinal.html) makes it sound like you didn't even have to kill Rak, you just turned in the tear to him and followed a bit of quest dialogue and he handed you the scale. If this was the case the Shaman epic as originally implemented was definitely even easier than the rogue epic.

This is likely why the stats were originally pretty terrabad.
Shaman epic was doable in two steps if you had max faction.

Counting turnin, killing & looting Rak as one, then final turnin as the 2nd? That is still possible - the "if" is a big if though as the whole epic is faction based :p

To the top! Would be nice to see some comment from the devs here.

Pretty sure a few people here have already skipped the hole and Neh'Ashiir by doing black dire and the CoM reports a lot

To be precise: If you do everything else up to and including Black Dire, you need to do the CoM reports exactly eight (8) times to max out TrueSpirit faction.
I skipped Ghiosk, The Hole and Neh'Ashiir that way. And btw. if someone has an unclaimed Iksar Broodling in PoFear - please do tell me on Slozem if I am online - I'll be happy to clean it up for you.
Cheers

CoM reports are the exact sort of thing you want to skip by boosting up your faction. Much easier to do the first couple steps multiple times until faction is maxed.

I repeated step one 40 times~. 27 Turn ins took me to warmly.
I did blackdire, 2 CoM pages, 1 Ghiosk to get max warmly.

Would also be interested to see a comment from devs on this. Will it be fixed or should we plan on just doing it the post-nerf way?

Still wondering about this, as it's a very significant part of the shaman epic. Is this going to be fixed?

This is pretty important. It's a hugely significant part of the epic. Would love to get some comment one way or the other.

Page 1. Feel like there's plenty of evidence here to support this.

The go-to method on live was woe/envy/marr's promise turn-ins. Only took about 3-4 rounds to max out. Idk why you would do CoM reports 8 times, holy shit. That's what you're trying to skip. It must be way easier here than it was on live. The courier alone took me 2 straight days of camping on live, probably at least 20 hours, and Neh`Ashiir is a pain in the ass too.
