Also, stay away from r&f boards, it does not represent the majority of the server. It's just people who are really really rough on each other in the spirit of competition. In sure most of us could stand to grab a beer with each other irl...at least I would hope so...

Done. I gave a shrallok pack full of South K loots to a confused level3 ranger after a complimentary port and bind in Freeport. It made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
Twinked a brand new monk on server with about 5k in gear. Filled all his slots for him. Hes now a very happy monk.

I too am liking all the new people that have shown up recently. Made me smile when I saw this last night in EC.
Just donated 5-6k in stuff for a SoW last night to a very confused lvl 11
druid lol.
Donating items is very nice (give all you can - I plan on dropping 20-30k more at least on random newbies in EC area in the next day or two) but its also a good idea to run to camps (Orc1/Orc2 ect) and buff people at random if you can buff. If you can't buff you can still help them kill mobs at under 40%. Even 15 minutes of your time at lvl 50+ goes a long way towards helping an entire group of new people.
It's also fun to show up at a low level camp with a 2-5k loot (usually try to make sure its an all/all in fairness) and have the group there roll on it.
I should have some time later to get some T2 trivia going on in EC for plat.

I would be one of these new players. I read an artical at MMORPG.com that was extremely well written and really brought back a flood of memories. Making of EQ (http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/9/feature/5970) I believe someone in the comments made reference to Project 1999. I logged in shortly after. It has been 3 days and I have sucked 7 OTHER real life friends back in with me. Look for us, we will be the travel pack of nooblings.

I'm one of the new players as well. Thanks to those that bought my meager goods at the EC tunnel last night. You're funding a broke necros spells for a few more levels. And thanks to Auena for the rez last night when Orc 1 had troubles. Corpse run to EC from FoB was looking a little rough.

New player here as well! My wife and I are taking turns while waiting for an IP exemption. Everybody I've met has been super nice with buffs and such, which is one of the things I miss most about EQ compared to other mmos. Great community, great game, we plan to be here for a loooong time!

On the giving of stuff to newbies...
I too do this. But It is usually a chunk of plat (200ish) and maybe a half decent weapon.
To give more, robs them of part of the experience IMO.

I started a necromancer and could not afford my level 4 and 8 spells. The stuff I was killing wouldn't even let me afford one of them. A few very nice people donated some plat to me and it made those first few levels much less painful, and I'm very grateful for that. I didn't need a robe of the ishva, GEBs, and a runed cowl. Just enough to afford my spells. Although I wouldn't have said no if someone, somehow, offered me those.
So whoever helped, Maithanet says thanks!

Hello ^_^ Very new player here. Old time EQOA player (when i was around 14-15 started playing EQOA) 23 now! i have played many games at high level endgame. Chain of games went from EQOA > FFXI> WOW > Conan, Rift, FFXIV, ect ect ... I can say my favorite games have been EQOA, FFXI and most recently EQ!!! Me and my old guild master back from EQOA days decided to give old Everquest a try just for fun and turns out we love it!!
Although some things are shockingly brutal, even compared to EQOA.... and FFXI. I would say this game is the most hardcore. I made a Gnome Necromancer by the name of Dokuton, and my friend made a Gnome Wizard and we've been exploring and having adventures for about a week now and its been amazingly fun for such an older game. But its keeping us online more than these current day """"""MMOS"""""""".
The community is top notch. Everyone is very helpful and buffs are always given out. Although i almost quit last night due to me and my friend running to Freeport ... which took almost 1.5hours because Gnatte (wizard friend) fell off the boat -_-... which is fine but then a peasant woman killed me in freeport which ruined my day so bad... i blew off steam and couldn't wait to get back in and playing again lol. I really appreciate that you guys run such a quality server and just wanted to say thank you for hard work.
~~~hope to see you in game!!!
I couldn't agree more! I've turned down some very generous offers from veteran players because I want the experience to feel like it did in '99. I even turned down 10pp at the EC tunnel for running into FP, and picking up some Fuzzlecutter Formula 5000, for someone yesterday :p
Hi all Bhubbles level 3 Ogre Warrior here... First time playing eq ever and it's been quite an amazing expierence. I played wow for a long time and lead two endgame raiding guilds for a while but for me the game was two easy and the community sucked! I searched all over the web for something new and gave up on mmo's a year ago. A few weeks ago I stumbled across a YouTube clip on p99 and was very intrigued, I came right to the sight and started reading. I was convinced after my research that this was the game and community for me so I ordered it and logged in for my first time 3 days ago...
Let me say, this game is Hard and I love it! I fell into some water and thought no biggie jump right out and keep moving; wrong I sank like a rock and i couldn't figure out how to get out and slowly watched my self drown! And when you die you have to get your corpse, learned that one the hard way when I ran back to kill another lizard man and realized I didn't have my weapon equipped anymore. Ran like heck for the town and yep they follow you all the way lol!
I lost my corpse and was told to go to the ecommon lands tunnle (thank you eq atlas). So my naked level 1 ogre warrior started his journey and I mad it to innothul and died, whelp lets try again... Dead, dead, dead, dead, lol dead! I quickly /tell (took awhile to figure out it was tell and not whisper) someone who recommended i get a Druid to port me thank you kasaga! He showed me which way to run and I ran my naked butt as fast as I could to that tunnle. I got a bind which he told me about thank goodness because I died again last night and would of been back at the ogre starting city.
Walked into that tunnel naked 5-6 hours after starting the game having actually killed one monster and it was an amazing exp. I got a weapon from someone at the tunnel and found a cloth cape and someone gave me some food and water and started hacking down pumas and Orc pawns!
Excellent game excellent community and I can't wait to meet and explore with you all. This is the game I was looking for and it's amazing!
Sincerely your friendly neighborhood Ogre "Bhubbles"
O, to be a true noobie again. Especially coming from WoW, you'll understand all the "hand-holding" modern MMOs offer and you may not understand why, but you'll realize that's not quite right, for whatever reason. I'd recommend you keep the P99 wiki (http://wiki.project1999.org/index.php/Main_Page) page open, and alt+tab as needed. It's a great resource for new and old players alike.
Heh yeah it's soo big and unforgiving! My chronicles will continue tonight, going to try and find some armour! Been reading for awhile today and still not sure how to get some (no quests from what I see). I got my cloth cape from an Orc pawn so I am guessing that it's dropped by Monsters.
Wish me luck!
Hope everyone is having a good day.
Hey all,
I'm one of the new players on the server (well I technically created an account a long time ago, but I never sat down and actually played), and I'm trying to bring some friends with me (one of which has never played EQ in any form). Almost everyone I've encountered has been extremely helpful and friendly, and I'm glad to be a part of the community! Right now I am a 12 Paladin, 12 Necromancer and 6 Magician, as I've been struck with a bit of altitis already. Hopefully I'll spend most of my time on my Paladin, Danlor (forum name "Danlor" was apparently unavailable).
See everyone in game. :)
While I'm here, I'd like to get people's opinions on a good three-man group:
One of my friends is set on playing an Enchanter. The other will most likely gravitate towards a Necromancer/Rogue/Monk. What would be a good third character to run with then? I'm thinking a Druid or Shaman, though I'd really prefer to keep playing my Paladin. I take it a Paladin + Enchanter + Rogue/Necro/Monk (one of the three) would be awful.
My other thought was something like Magician+Enchanter+Necro or Wizard+Enchanter+Necro. Would I be best off just filling up the third slot in the group as a Druid?
of the combinations you have i'd say a cleric. You have healing, dps with the necro and clarity/cc with the enchanter. If you have enc/monk I'd go with a shaman or cleric again. Shaman can buff the monk/slow/heal/dps or cleric can buff group and heal the monk. If it is enc/rog I would think you'd need a tank type but then you'd have no healing as well. Personally if the person is set on playing a necro i'd try to convince them to go mage instead and do enc/mage/cleric.
Thanks a lot for the info. As much as I don't want to roll a Cleric, that is probably what I'll end up doing. I might try to convince the Rogue/Monk/Necro to go Warrior and roll us as Enchanter/Cleric/Warrior.
also keep in mind exp penalties for certain race/class combos. cleric/enc/mage none of you would have any exp penalty so leveling would be pretty fast. If you go paladin you are going to nerf exp 40% if you level together all the time. Shaman depending on the race has a penalty as well.
Cleric is not the most exciting class to play but you will not be hurting for groups imo with the new influx of players wanting a healer in group.
Galimor
01-12-2012, 01:04 PM
Aye, if I switch from Paladin I won't have to worry about a 40% exp penalty. Thanks again for the advice, I am most likely going Cleric or Shaman to play with them, and keeping my level 13 (just dinged!) Paladin as an alt.
False, that combo will have to share the enc's 10% penalty. Yes, the paladin's penalty is higher still.
As far as combos, the "other" character will really set your decision.
1) Enc is a great basis to start any group (6-man or just trio)
2) Rogue is not a good option for a 3-man party, they do make a GREAT 4th man however.
3) If #2 picks Nec, then I'd suggest you also play a ranged character, preferably with decent healing. Pets can tank and DPS and you've got mana, CC, and healing all covered.
4) If #2 picks monk, then you will definitely need some healing help for constant action. A cleric or sham would be even more beneficial here than with the Necro partner.
Since you previously mentioned you didn't want to play a cleric, go ahead and roll a shaman. Shaman/Necro efficiency is fantastic once you're able to efficiently transfer hp to the shaman so they can continue to cannibalize themselves for mana, while the Shaman contributes regrowth to the necro so as to assist in this process, as well as the obvious slows etc. while your pets rape all day.
A certain shammy homeland security special agent who frequents CoM knows what I'm talking about.
I am glad to be accepted so readily. My friends and I used to log hard on Torvo back in the day. We were all in Immortals Rising. We all gave up after we conquered GoD. Coming back has been a blast. I didn't do much of the classic EQ so now is my chance. So far we have rallied seven folks from the old server and are looking to get more to come aboard.
