View Full Version : Suggestion: Global Red Chat...

Let me preface this with I do not personally like global chat.. But here is an option that might work...

To use global chat You cannot be roleplaying or talk shit with /anon. So in order to read or speak in Global chat aka Red Chat your class level and zone are displayed on /who, you are flagged killable to anyone else with Red Chat on, to flag yourself, hail a POD and get a red or blue book ( on/off) and turn it in... So flaggin and unflagging will require a trip to a town. And as for yellow text... The message should reveal the loser's level and guild and group or ungrouped status along with the winners class, level, group and guild status along with zone.. That way if someone creates some good old YT it is put in context, allows others to find pvp, and is pretty obvious to the rest of the server if a player only farms lowbies or might actually have some skill... And as far as red, chat players should be able talk 3 times in an EQ day for auc, lfg, or to talk shit players choice.... If you die to pvp you are silenced for the next 72 RL Minutes and the winner of YT gets an extra broadcast for that eq day. Maybe also creat a 1-9 and 10-20 channel for grouping/ starting out..

pretty cool idea.. but this would require too much coding time most likely.. idk for sure but seems like it

OR we could just have global /OOC with the option to ignore it or specific people (easy to implement)

Players shouldn't have to disable a native feature of the game, for no other reason than people saying they should.

Palemoon is right. When global ooc went away on p99, so did all the global spammers. People named iIIIIIIIILILILll spamming dick stories wastes staff time.

And miss out on an important tactical advatange everyone else was useing? No.

/ooc global: teh zerg is massing in upper guk, look out if you are in lower guk they headed that way.

(everyone else has warning, but I turned off my gobal ooc and get steamrolled by suprise)

at a disatvantage in pve/grouping too, and basically everything. Kind of like saying allow macroquest, but you can turn it off for yourself if it offends you.

no global ooc is better for immersion too

gobal occ would so quickly poison the community its not funny. Bad enough to have rants and flames here with what goes on in it (but at least that you can avoid without sacrificing any sort of in game advantage like you would if you did not use an available gobal ooc)

You guys tried global oocing the way people did in 1999?

being a lvl 28 rogue...a class that can't solo for shit I REALLy support a way find grps. Be it a global lfg channel or whatever. I played in 99 and there where 1000+ people on my server so LFG where never a problem. On this server with 60 people on it at times would be nice to not have to run from guk to unrest to see if theres groups going on there.

perhaps the /lfg function could be implemented, where the box pops up and you can search for groups LFM and for players who are LFG

Yea. It's ooc for short and I believe the full function was typed as:
/ooc_to_a_populated_server

Worked as intended in 99 relying on the 99 population. Can't recreate p99 population that this relies on? Broken. There is ~100 people online right now and all my major zones, no one is there. 1 in oasis, 1 in all 3 freeport zones, come on.. I'm The ONLY ONE in gfay!! When does this happen ?

Why not just have it in game? Because you won't be able to resist reading it?

Okay so some people use it like normal human beings.

Then others join it and start pissing wars, spam, racism etc that drives the pop down.

I don't think you understand why it isn't in game but it should be clear.

Uhm "/ignore randomtroll#73" ?

Not that hard to type /ignore d00d.

Not all of us have huge guilds to communicate with and the newbie areas being ghost towns it hurts new players more then some trolling in /ooc.

I almost quit the server my second day because it was a slow couple days for server pop and I didn't see more then like 2 people on my way to level 5.

If there would have been global /ooc at least I would've known people were playing and interacting with each other.

I understand not wanting to put in the effort for something that might actually do more harm than good, and I also understand the general public bounces from topic to topic thinking the server would be saved if only this happened.

But, back to topic with global /ooc

1) Level requirement to post to global ooc.

If you have to be level 15+ to post in global ooc then it would get rid of the people with whack names spamming. If they were doing this after being level 15+ it wouldn't be a waste of time for a gm to just get rid of these jackasses at that point.

2) Keeping regular /ooc and global ooc (maybe /gooc) separate would allow people to put the conversations in different chat windows and organize it the way they like. If you customized it right it shouldn't hurt if it scrolled a lot.

@ Nilbog

Did people really complain about spammers in global /ooc?

Type /ignore to avoid annoying people.

I really appreciate the project and don't mean to seem ungrateful because I'm not, but is there maybe a compromise where we could give it a trial run for a week or 2?

I hope I don't come off like an asshole, but people are lazy and it's very difficult to find ways to get us all on the same page without global /ooc.

Use /shout for zonewide and /ooc for global imo.

It is so goddamn simple i don't get how it is not in game. Ghost town feeling hurts server sooooo much worse than HEY ****** SUCK MY DICK. They are going to get ****** dicked eventually in pvp anyways so if it upsets the weak stomached than consider them gone at some point. Hell even yellowtext, seeing that people are out there fighting, is super motivating to the lonley newb.

Operation Ninja- Add global ooc, save the server!
