Hey Guys,
When eq first came out I was just a kid with no knowledge or MMO's at all. By the time I actually starting to get into Everquest and the MMo scene eq was already pasts it's hay day. I am really looking forward to giving this whole project 1999 thing a try so I can actually see and feel what everyone else did back in 99.
With that being said the PvP server is going to be my choice, because I love PvP. Can anyone give me any adivce on what classes are terrible and what classes are decent etc. I'm not looking to roll the OP flavor of the month, but I do have a few classes in mind and I'd like to see if any of them are just flat terrible in PvP, because that may help my decision.
Any adivce or tips would be awesome. Thanks in advance.

Mage was one of my top choices, either that or a ranger. But I have always been interested in druids, are they really that fun? How do they fare in the solo'ing region. And thanks for the help so far, much appreciated.

If your a druid you can be a clicker and watch youporn and still prosper easily soloing. I know i do! plus you get ports snare dots heals its easyquest. you know you want too. and we can powerlevel your ranger later just powerlevel my halfelf warrior.

Basically, Druid and pure casters for easy leveling.
Somehow clerics seem to be reaching level 50 pretty fast as well, but I have no clue how.
If you want to learn how to DoT kite, you can play a bard, but be prepared to be rooted every chance someone gets, causing you 9% xp loss.
If you hate yourself, go melee or hybrid.

Wizards are terrible unless you have friends. Since you won't know anyone roll a solo class, farm twink gear eventually for a melee by the time you starting leveling it you will know people and others doing the same.

Most classes are too broken to invest grindtime into until we see how/if they will be fixed.
~Classically broken(worth playing if youre a cool bro)~
rogue worthless
monk slightly less worthless
warrior worthless but a great tank. hope you always have a group!
ranger worthless
~broken on red99 alone~
-mages above level 35, pets do about 50% dmg they should
-bards broken in several ways i dont understand but hear about constantly
-enchanters (cannot solo because of losing pet aggro through stun component on every nuke spell+pet exp penalty if pet tanks means if you solo you have to tank the mob to not get 25% exp per kill) also entire point of class is lost because you cant charm players in pvp
-shaman dots dont stack and also everyone has 25 thex daggers on every alt (but still ok to play)
-nec fear broken and dots dont stack (but still relatively powerful if you arent taking damage aka dotting up noobs then running away)
~unbroken~
cleric (lol)
paladin (lol)
shadow knight
druid
wizard (aka i use grenade launcher in every fps) (lol)

from my perspective, having a 60 enchanter on the blue server, this is just a whole lot of whining on the forums. charming players in pvp would be broken. enjoy your exp death from drowning / guards, 100% of the time, lol.
if you want the best dps, cc, and buff group class, with the ability to solo better than most and duo with the best, with a high skill cap, roll an enchanter.

can you guys imagine what it will be like in kunark when guilds are fighting over trak and you can dictate juggs for ~40 seconds of pure unadulterated ownage? assuming the server makes it that far lol

I wish charm was in...I could think off soooo many ways to kill a player while charmed. /pet sit in lava comes to mind.

You can't solo anything you cant tank yourself on an enchanter without getting 25% exp per kill from my understanding. Is this wrong or just a difference between blue99 and red99?
Your pet has no taunt and is uncontrollable and your nukes pull aggro in 1 nuke because of the stuns. If you don't do at least 51% dmg you get 25% of the exp. If you don't nuke you do no damage unless you melee in which case you are tanking the mob and might as well nuke.

Dont be fooled. Soloing a Wizard in PvE can be long and boring till lvl 29 when you are able to Quadkite. If you plan to play a Wizard without any support or group of friends buy a good book cuz you will be meding alot.
If you choose to play a chanter be aware a chanter has quite high learning curve and especially in groups you are the one most likely to die since almost everything you do puts you on the top of the mobs hate list. BUT you will be wanted and needed. Soloing the chanter is a very easy. While you wont be able to deal massive dmg your crowd control ability will let you break camps where other classes may struggle and with charm soloing never gets boring.
In PvP you need to think outside the box. You will die alot, not because the chanter is bad but because of you. Your first impulse in PvP will be " Damage i need to do Damage" which will get you killed. Twelve years ago i played on a PvP Server as a Mage and Necro. The only fight i still remember was against a chanter. It went down like this.
Me: " Hehe Chanter easy kill."
I start attacking
Me: " Pet why arent you attacking?"
Pet shrugs his shoulder,
Me: " Ohh little Chanter mezzed me oh how cute."
Mezz wears off
Me: " Har! Now you die!"
You are out of mana
Me: " WTF?! How?"
You are stunned
Me: " Abort plan ! Abort plan!"
You feel encoumberd
Me: " Where is my str? Where are my stats ! Help wtf is going on? OMG Hoax!"
You have been slained by the "shitty" damage of the chanter now go hide and cry in the corner.
Again you dont kill with DMG as a chanter...as a chanter you have other ways and you are one of the key classes in any Group PvP or PvE. The only class that comes similar close to it is maybe the bard. Be prepared to be first target in PvP even before the healer...but trust me nothing is more fun than killing someone in PvP as a chanter. It wont be fast kills but you will see how people start to panic as they slowly loose their HP while you are in full control of the battle.

high skill cap
that's the key, right there. the whining you see on the forums is from people who should have rolled a class more appropriate for their skill level. you can still charm solo and get 100% exp if you break charm before you kill, but you have to be a skilled CC'er. enchanter's still better than most of the classes for soloing.

Druids are terrible in group? What game do you play? Have you seen what sonic bats do to naggy?

Bards take a bit of learning, but they are the most fun pvp class in the game imo. Very powerful, but not in ways that are very obvious at first (kinda like enchanter, as Snukie put it).

you are correct in stating that druid charming can be effective. charming in general is extremely effective, and that's part of the reason why enchanters are so powerful. still, i can count on one hand the number of druid's i've seen able to effectively utilize charming in a group environment, because most of them are terrible at this game and partly because druid charming is extremely limited. as far as raids goes: the ability to use charm against raid targets in old world classic is essentially limited to nagafen and vox. using lvl 50+ charmed pets in the planes will be dangerous and unreliable until kunark comes and the level cap is raised.
in the many cases where druid charm cannot be used, what else do they bring to a group? subpar heals, subpar dps, subpar buffs, all things that specialists do better. the versatility that allows the druid to perform well in a solo environment is exactly what limits his usefulness in a group environment.

ok more detailed info on why druid > you
1. powerlevel - this is a form of grouping without grouping which druids exceed.
2. transportation - porting members to the spot for raids(very fucking important)
3. jack of all trades - variety of spells that can be a big help like CHARM ANIMAL and SONIC BATS. ENSNARE
4. dwayne wade - spirit of cheetah (necessary at times to save yourself in outdoor zone, can port friends back later to retrieve corpses)
5. hulk hogan - buffs/heals/dots/nukes
6. peter pan - evac when shit gets rough.
7. community -GROUP SPELLS LIKE PACK REGEN AND PACK WOLF FORM.

in your typical group:
if a cleric, tank, or enchanter/bard goes afk, the group shuts down until they return.
if a mdps goes afk, they will be sorely missed until they return.
if a druid goes afk, nobody will notice unless they are told beforehand. (or 5 minutes later when someone finally notices that you haven't moved)

If you want a class that you can excell in pve and pvp that are also user friendly and not to huge of a learning curve, necro and Druid.
The other classes can be difficult pvp. Some say Mage, mages are terrible in pvp but good in pve. I do not recommend a melee or hybrid. Enchanters take skill or you will fail. Wizards are pretty easy but don't have many options spell wise, ppl chose this class knowing what they have because They have experience with the game.

true story. Chanters scare the shit out of me in pvp - i'm nice to all of them :P The only exception is that lower lvls you'll run oom VERY fast. Shame breeze isn't in game yet. I don't think I'd make a chanter til kunark. Already claimed the name Magicite ;D dark elf agnostic chanter mm..
I'm a bard -- mana free, speedy bastards, track eventually .... we are terrible lower lvls tho just a heads up.
Mages are everywhere -- to many of them. Don't be a mage ;p
