In classic eq, fear and charm were patched VERY quickly for obvious reasons

Link to patch notes, screen shot, or stfu.
I remember being able to use fear on Tallon-Zek up until around the time Kunark came out.

No evil it's the party who wants to change what's already in place who must provide evidence. So you should take your own advice

Here's some things I remember
-Charming/fearing people months after the game was out
-I had this trick for charming mobs where you could wait until they spawned and started summoning the pet, then charm them mid summon of the pet, and you would essentially have two pets, their pet would be unattackable And assist the charmed mob.
-Enchanter mobs would cast charm on the target, You could charm enchanter mobs, and have them recharm a secondary pet, thus having a chain of charms, all would assist your main pet.
-Generally pets were ALOT weaker. All pets here are uber strong compared to what they were on live, I remember my chanter animation being nearly useless on live against blues. I remember grouping with a 20 mage, and his pet was barely able to kill a blue mob. It could tank, just not as well as they do now.
(I think this might come down to pet regen, which is way to high.)
-There was different coding for guards and factions. It was really easy to get anything to assist you if you were attacked within sight of it. Even green con scowling mobs would assist me at times.
(Example, I would kill the froglok necromancer for fun, then lure the necro pet to some scowling frogloks and they would assist.
-I was able to charm peoples pets, I could also do cool things like charming a mobs pet at a zone line, zone out, and the mob would resummon the pet, and the old thing I charmed would be just sitting there.

I also remember fearing in pvp as a necro - I thought it was odd when I couldn't fear here as well but figured it was for a reason and went on.
I still haven't died in pvp so fear isn't game breaking for a necro.

Charm, not fear. I should know i have played a Necro long enough. However Fear did get resisted very easy.

Charm was removed for obvious reasons, charming people into guards for NPCs much higher than them or intentional xp loss.
Fear was removed because it had a terrible problem that removed pvp range on players effected by it. Not only did it remove their pvp range, but would make them susceptible to taking full spell damage and flagging them as link dead for the duration of the effect. Further, there was a bug that caused spell gems not to refresh correctly after the duration. This is also not to mention that a full invoke fear lasted like... forever if it landed making it an almost instant you lose button.
No ZAM or vague msg board posts on this, just gotta trust the old man here.

Wasn’t there also a different spell for charming players? I specifically remember that for some reason.

No, same spell was used on PCs and NPCs.
Screaming terror is in yes and is the mez version not the flee version.

Fear and Charm should be in IMO.

yea but charm would be so bad on players it wouldnt even last long.. esp if a player had high resist or even was even con or yellow.. i mean if he was 3-4 lvls lower then you i could see you holding a charm but to me charm is almost worthless pvp wise ;p
i mean of course charming a guard and buffing him up is nice but still not very great esp if your charm breaks and your 1v1 ;P

its funny fear and charm have been in eq2 pvp for the entirety and theres never been an issue.

I understand the why, its just very hard when you have 8 spell slots and may be PVE at the time and get jumped and you now have a completely useless spell up. Makeing it at least a short duration stun in pvp would at least make it usefull, instead of being delegated to 7 spell slots.

I don't remember a time when Fear was not in PvP.

im not sure about charm or fear, but what you said about PET regen is ture its completel out of wack....i have harder time soloing the pet of a mob then the mob itself due to its retarded regen rate.

Yeah it flagged them as an NPC or something like that, it was super buggy and just removed from being castable on players.
