I know that its been said that the boats will probably never be able to be active in project 99, and that they aren't compatible with the SoF or Titanium clients, but I would sure hope for the sake of true classic EQ nostalgia when the server comes back up, the boats will be in full service again.

i dunno, props to this dude for confusing the hell out of me :D

Well...I really coulden't tell if all the posts asking for items like the manastone and guise of the deciever to be put back into the game due to the DDOS attacks were 'serious' or not...I coulden't tell if posts asking for the server to be reset were 'serious', wasn't too sure if posts suggesting a grand get-together, filled with drunken cross-zone races, and drunken kelethin runs to 'celebrate' the server, were 'serious' or not.....but I can in fact confirm that as someone who has fond memories of boat rides in classic EQ, I am in fact being 100% 'serious'.

Don't get me wrong, it doesen't surprise me one bit that as someone with a name that is not easilly recognized, OR someone who is a guild leader, OR someone who is in a high-end guild, who constantly fills the forums with irrelevant posts, makes a suggestion that is not taken seriously by some, if not many. I fully expected it.

i didnt know if you were being serious because in the same post you say you understand why its not do-able yet you still ask for it to be done.

do some research, realize they are putting a high priority on shit they CAN fix and work on and have mentioned that if any1 wants to attempt learning perl they can (there is a post with the information required somewhere if you simply search) and that otherwise they arent going to worry about it.

i enjoyed the boats as well, whenever they were working. but they werent always working, they had many glitches with it, and if sony, a company who employs a shit ton more than 4 people, cant have 100% working boats in the 3 years of classic/kunark/velious then i wouldnt expect P99 to have 100% working boats.

and sorry...i seem to have misplaced my underlaying tone of sarcastic remarks. but dont worry!! i still managed to get my point across without coming off as an asshole

Anyone else remember running for the boat and seeing it at port, and seeing it pull away just as you time the most epic of epic jumps (especially if you were a dwarf!) and .... missing completely? landing in the water with your level 5 swimming skill and taking 8 minutes to crawl back onto the land?

Good memories... good memories... I'd be happy for the boats, but i understand they are a pain in the ass... also my computer in 99 loved to crash whilst zoning, and i'd crash and end up fucked by being on the boat... died in eruds crossing this one time... not cool looking for a body at the bottom of the sea with no EB or swimming skill...

This will probably be received as a stupid question as well, but I just started P1999 the day before the crash, so is there any way to travel between Antonica and Faydwer without the boats? By extension, is it possible to go to Ocean of Tears?

there are translocators that appear on the far right pier in butcherblock and one that appears by the fishing lady in freeport every 10~15 minutes, as well as one in OOT pier

just target them and say "travel to -----" either ocean of tears, butcherblock mountains, or freeport depending on where you are at.

Thanks a lot, Virtuosos. This was probably the best P1999 could do under the circumstances.

And, of course, sexy chest.

Boats are a good element of classic

Many of us have early days of EQ epic journeys from one continent to the other, before our friends could bind, or cast SOW, was epic.

But I don't care either way, its mostly a small part of the big picture, and if it means the server crashes and is too unstable to work, or simply impossible, then I dont care about boats.

I just hope they find a way to put in the amazing boat to kunark.

something i have noticed on the easy server though was the use of the boats...

food for thought (if there is an admin who is reading this): If you can make the boats still appear and move through the water even if not being a solid object, then an idea for making it slightly more classical-feel would be making the boats come at the same time as they would in live, and when you run to hop into the boat, it causes you to teleport to the next destination (just like using a translocator but without hailing it and whatnot, same as it is in classic) then while in OOT, you have just a slightly less waiting time (maybe half as long) for the next boat to come...

this is where it gets tricky though, not sure how to pick which destination to go to..

anyways, just an idea to add the boats back in the beauty aspect of it.

Some things will never be 100% classic. It's impossible to ensure 100% compliance.

1) Some people like it this way because they don't want 100% classic eq. reformists.

2) Some people are too busy playing the game to even care what this is all about.

3) Some people wish it was 100% classic. fundamentalists.

4) Others are big hairy trolls that live under bridges.

5) Some people are Rogean or Nilbog.

But for the rest of us (9 out of 10 people), we're sorry for the poor sob's that're one of the above.

hm....i dont feel sorry for number 2 :/ think it should be more closely worded to "some people are too busy playing the game to even care if its classic or not" though

and i still like my boat idea =(
