I don't remember that ever happening. :o
What kind of video card? Typically it has to do with the quality of the card from all I can tell. Running normal I'll get issues but if I use SLI I have no issues.

Get a hard drive with higher rpm, and more ram so you're not using mostly virtual memory to run eq.

Get a solid state hard drive and have both your OS and EQ installed on it. You will love it. My HDD is now a piece of shit archive drive.
Intel Core,i5-450M (2.4-2.66Ghz, 3M/4 threads)
6GB Shared Dual Channel DDR3 at 1066MHz
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470, 1GB
500GB 7200 RPM SATA Hard Disk Drive
This was never an issue on any other server... others in guild have similiar experience/problem - I mean my specs should be fine right? Hardware issue? Settings/configuration issue?
Would appreciate any help here guys :/

It's devastating for bards and makes bard AOE kiting pretty much only doable very very late at night at the moment. And even then you're taking your chances.
Every time someone zones in, if I'm AOE kiting, I run right into it probably half the time. Makes it basically impossible to kill any kite that is big enough to 1-shot you, and that's most of them. This accounts for the majority of AOE kiting deaths, and that is saying a lot with the Selos-not-overwriting-Root-and-Snare bug.
This needs to be checked out for sure please, the bard community would thank you very much. Every bard I've talked to has this issue.

Died again due to this technical issue. It really sucks when it's not even your fault.

I know what you're talking about, I dealt with it on live for a time. Upgrading solved it for me then. It's a symptom of either your cache settings, or a failing piece of hardware.

The cache settings for what, exactly?

In your everquest options.

It's nice to have options but zone dancing is pretty much dependent on having Texture Caches on, for both hunter and hunted. And what does that have to do with OTHER people coming into the zone? It just seems weird and maybe there's something server-side to look at...

The pause is due to your computer accessing the graphics files for the character that just entered the zone. Has nothing to do with the server. It's 100% local. Caching options influence how and when things are loaded on your pc.
You can either take a little longer loading the zones, or take a little longer when the necessary model enters the zone. But on any modern PC that's running properly and doesn't have all of its resources overtaxed, it should be imperceptible.

I'll just go to lowest graphical settings and see if that fixes it; I mean, how bad could it be? Ughh.
edit: well, it looks like I'm playing Dwarf Fortress now but it seems a little better. It might be hard to tell until peak hours.

Ahh ok...
I have a POS machine anway, but i never noticed this spike before, until recently.
when i used to play and raid i had all settings turned off or at minimums to minimize any lag
now that im back mindlessly wandering around i have my settings up
that explains why im getting the zone in/out spikes. thx!
