They gonna be like they were in classic/release of p99 or are they going to be the damage/aggro nerfed version we got a few months after Kunark on p99?

From the screenshots I saw, it looks like mage pets are pretty nerfed like tbox said. It is not like K&B when they hit for 60's and 70's.

I tested lvl 4 necro pet and it hit like shit and I tested lvl 4 Mage pet and it could solo dark blue mobs (necro pet crap damage plus fire dd proc and inherent damage shield).

Level 4 necro pet on K&B or Red69 solo'd yellow mobs easily.

I never played K&B so I don't know how bad pets were there for a reference.
I played a mage at the release of p99 though, so I know how pets were there. They were nerfed once before kunark and then more after kunark.
Are pets holding aggro badly here? If you sit after the pets first round of melee damage on a target does the target come after you? Are high level mage pets occasionally hitting in the teens? Like a triple attack of 46, 13, 46? Those would all indicate the nerfed version of p99 pet.

Red69 had the most overpowered pets in any Emu I have played.
Also almost all the recent vztz remake boxes had overpowered pets.
This will be substantially less. They never hit for a ton on Live, I just remember them being annoying as hell.

Again, not trying to compare them to other boxes. Trying to compare them to p99, which was trying to compare them to live.
Pets being significantly weaker than live is a good thing for game play. It's one of those things where they want to deviate from classic so as to not take a shit on the server.

Mage pets should be stronger because mages cannot root, have no stuns and their best nuke takes something like 7 seconds to cast. I found that when mage pets were weak, I would just simply stop playing them. Once people get fully geared, they can melee or nuke a pet down pretty fast. Until you get an epic pet, high level mages are gonna get shit on unless they are hiding in the back of a group.

Yup, but they can level solo and camp most items in the game themselves, it's all about trade-offs.
Don't feel sorry for them.

Pets take a flat 1% exp each in groups regardless of damage output. The 50% or more damage check is just for soloing.

Mages nuke for 80% of a wizards and they cast like 1 sec or so long then Ice Comet. Mages get a fire resist debuff spell wizards do not. Mage will not nuke as hard as a wizard or have shadow step. But their pet is like a dot that will not stop ticking until cced or killed. Also range on Lavabolt is pretty damn good.
Mage will likely out dps a wizard in a pvp fight the longer the fight goes on provided the pet is alive or resummoned. A wizard is useless oom a mage is not.

i talkd to a dev on this issue today, its just an issue of going and doing the research and crunching the numbers... i think we all agree the pets are lacking in some way. I played a mage from classic, these pets are not classic, they are a tiny tiny bit underpowered. cant say why or how to fix it. Its just not classic.
edit: but that tiny tiny bit is enough to throw off the mage by alot. a mage can solo yes, but the whole point of a mage to solo is that he actually does it effectively. because of these changes a mage actually gets better exp in a grp. Thats not classic. a Mage was far more effective soloing 1-40 then he was grping. and thats no longer the case here.

thats how i feel about mages, you cant argue against it because the changes are inline with classic. but they are all just a tiny bit off which, if you take all the changes into consideration, makes the final outcome slightly weaker to weaker then live.
weak if you play like your use to
slightly weaker if you adjust and adapt, but can still tell the difference

I think thats fixed, i started a necro on P99, again lol and didnt have to tank the entire time.. (levels 1-10)
if i let pet tank mob down to 75% or so i could even lifetap w/o agro
which wasnt the case a few months ago when i tried a low necro
idk about mid mages, i could log in and check a 27 mage while waiting, and the 49 mage pets seem to be doing good.
(been farmin junk a couple days on a 51 mage w/o probs)
edit: fook that! im not checkin... im gonna make some cookies for tonight
Still looking for some more mages to add to our ranks come live.

I'm probably still going to roll one because I don't want to be in the shaman swarm.
But it would be nice to know if we're going with how p99 pets were at launch or how they are now.
And am I hearing correctly that now I have to do >50% damage PER MOB to get full exp?

Seems so. It's a pretty big blow for mages, but even bigger for enchanters since they're basically not even capable of doing said 50%+ damage themselves. Solo leveling a magician will be a lot less efficient, and solo leveling an enchanter will be more or less impossible.
