Hey Guys,
Just wondering what would be some good starter gear for a DE Wizard? I have a budget of around 2.5k.
Thanks in advance.
P.S. I did search other threads but there was nothing too specific price wise...

Since the best way 1-10 is to get a hp buff and a DS from EC tunnel and just kill shit - I would get some Moonstone Rings (cheap - sometimes free even since they are common as hell). Pull with a level 1 DD let the DS kill the mob (try to melee of course) and then rinse repeat.
Since you'll have a HP buff on, I wouldn't necessarily recommend getting +HP items. You will find yourself oom before you are low on health (at least I did). Once you get up to level 12+ you can start grouping in Oasis. Where, since you'll be grouped, +HP items won't be as important as +mana items.
+mana gear is better than +INT gear early on. You can get an Oracle Robe cheap enough (like 250pp I think), Dragoon Dirk for range slot (50pp?). I wish I could remember more starter gear but I've alwayz had WIZ as my main so had to acquire stuff as I go and never really bought much for my toon. Just would loot upgrades if I needed etc.
But those items are a good start and prolly total less than 500pp.

Moonstone Ring x 2
Ivory Bracelet x 2
Dusty Bloodstained Gloves
Savants Cap
Stein of Moggok
Sacrificial Dagger
Gatorscale Sleeves
All should cost ya around... 1kish Mabye a bit more.
Robe grab Advisor Robe or Robe of the Oracle both are solid mana additions and decently cheap.

A nice little Dagger of Frost and Solist's Icy Wand could go a long way at low levels. These are really the only 2 items that will make much of a difference imo.

Solist's is level 12. A must at that level, but useless at level 1. Dagger of Frost is ok at level 1, but better to get mana/hit gear: player made, or something like embroidered black cape or sleeves.

There are so few wizards around at any level that I don't see why you couldn't get a wand for under 1k.

Robe of the Oracle I'd go 5/55 rings instead of Moonstone. 110 HP is way more valuable than 60 more mana. You won't always have a HP buff, and staying alive is important. Doesn't matter if you finish a kill with 30m left or 20m left. Still takes just as long to med back to full.
Also look into the 25mana/25hp necklace or the 7str/7int necklace.

Along the same lines, I'd buy a pair of Golden Jaded Bracelets (+15 hp/mana) for 50pp or so over the Ivory Bracelets.

spend the 2.5k on ONE ITEM (or a few items) that you will keep for a while. it is beyond stupid to waste your money on crap you will outgrow quickly. Without a doubt I would recommend a pair of 5 ac 55 hp rings for ANY new character. the amount of hit points you get from these rings is absolutely ridiculous for how much they cost. you are basically doubling or tripling (or more) your HP for early levels. Plus, you will still have a lot of money left for another nice item. Buy a nice robe (maybe save a bit more money for a froglok bonecaster robe), or some other piece of gear you're going to keep for a while.

I wouldn't call it a waste of money buying cheap servicable items. After all, you can resell them if/when you upgrade.
At any rate, fortunately there are a lot of cheap items that don't get replaced quickly, so those are a safe bet to start off with. 5/55 rings you mentioned (and the ears, necklaces, etc...all the jewelry from eq classic) offer an excellent bang for the buck.

You wont outgrow the gator sleeves too fast, or the moonstone rings. A pair of 4int 2str ears is good. So is the plat sapphire necklace.

stuff that you can easily replace is not worth the time to sell. it is difficult to find buyers for stuff that sells for 200 plat or less: by and large the new characters being started are all twinks with budgets in excess of 10k. all of the junk i find from kunark in the low price range (kunzar kujuch, staff of tranquil etc) i just give away or vendor.
i actually tried to auction a lot of my newb gear in EC a while ago and realized it was a complete waste. I was making 1k per hour doing aoe groups in skyfire, and i want to sit in EC and auction 500 plat worth of newbie junk? could not have been a bigger waste of time. so i tried to find people who actually needed it and just gave it away.

This is pretty much standard operating procedure here for anyone that doesn't know and should practically be stickied. It's not even really being nice as much as not being stupid.
I don't always min/max, but when I do, I give my cheap gear away.

Cool, thanks for the tips!
I ended up getting the 5ac/55hp rings and an oracle robe...looking for a Solist Icy Wand if anyone is selling! I have about 2.1k left, give or take...
Send me a tell in game, I will be playing my wiz (name is Elvath).
