every time i go to log in this comes up
eqgame.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
does anyone know whats going on and how can i fix it to get back to playing?

Make sure your resolution is set correctly.

Make sure your video drivers are up to date and and as Mcbard mentioned make sure your resolution is set right.

What OS are you on? Windows 7? Windows Vista? XP?

Make sure EQ is in C:\Everquest and NOT in program files.

If all else fails, reinstall and use the all in one installer in my signature, it will set it up all for you properly and let you choose what resolution to play at.

I would also try to run it in Windowed mode to see if it runs.

Try going to Compatibility Options under the Properties menu for eqgame.exe and checking the option that says "run under 640x480 resolution."

EDIT: For XP, I don't know if this is necessary for Win7, I know that I had to do this however

Strangely enough I get those errors if I try launching the game with my internet browser open. I can open the browser after the game is already loaded via alt-tab, but I get errors if I don't close it before launching the game.

This is an old computer.
