View Full Version : Red99 PVP leaderboard

Is there any chance for having anything similar to that on Red99 or should I just forget about it.

It would definitely make PVP a lot more fun if you could get points for kills and possibly see how many kills/deaths you have etc.

Pros:
-tracking system
-bragging rights

Cons:
-potentially running new people off the server with increased griefing

On VZ/TZ a few people would only kill undergeared and underleveled noobs leveling to pad their leaderboard stats.

I like a leaderboard, personally. The reason it failed on VZ/TZ was that there was noone actively policing maphackers combined with no anon/roleplay.

I hear counterstrike has a leaderboard when you press tab.

MY IMMERSION! Maybe this would be a good idea 2-3 years down the road when the server is stale and people want a new dynamic or something

Make the leaderboard not accessible in-game with only daily updates.

leaderboard/YT has encouraged concepts of consistent zone plugging... People who are afraid to "scar their rep" instantly gating from pvp, bind camping, etc etc.

I liked YT and I also liked the leaderboard on the servers I played, but it changes pvp gameplay for the worse when you're talking about dealing with a large population server (R99)

The only way a leaderboard worked legit was later on in EQ history with the invention of a safe zone to prevent bind camping messing with numbers of who is really good or not.

I'm not totally opposed but I'd rather see the server released then time spent on extraneous features.

Make the leaderboard not accessible in-game with only daily updates.

This could work, yet still encourages bind camping and other lame moves.

I guess the argument I'll hear is: If they fell asleep on the keyboard, they deserve to be bind camped?

Without a leaderboard, how would any one benefit from that act? Now if the pvp immunity buff or whatever makes it so you can't get points/kill credit from the same person within a hour, then sure by all means, put it in :D

very against leaderboards

they just encourage plugging / bragging / acting like a dick and the endless grind of gate pots

Oh trust me I don't want some in game Counterstrike tab. I meant something outside the game that is updated daily or weekly.

Yeah that would definitely be cool and it would even encourage people to move onto new targets when they kill someone instead of griefing the same person over and over.

people take the game to serious with leaderboard. i.e hazek killed his shaman like 15 times on his bard so that he would look like a pro-bard on KaB

Back in the medieval days, when elves and gnomes and ogres roamed the lands and there were kingdoms and stuff.. murder was usually a bad thing. No one was keeping score of the people they killed, and if too many people actually found out who had been killing a lot of people, that person would probably have been hanged. A leaderboard just doesn't fit into the lore of EQ.

The altergate tweet feed was pretty cool concept imo, someone could set that up, you can keep it tabbed to see where the pvp is happening but people who are concerned for their fragile immersion can continue to enjoy the 10 year old scenery.

would like a system similar to sullon zeks that logged each pvp kill and where/when it happened, awarded points for said kill and generated a leaderboard off of said points, it also fits with the timeframe given that sullon utilized it from launch.

1. leaderboard is classic.
2. yellow text is classic.
3. this is a pvp server.
4. leaderboard discourages griefing.
5. If you are afraid of a leaderboard, you will not last.

You lost points for griefing anyone. You lost points for killing anyone too low. You lost points for bind camping. You lost points for killing anyone too many times even if you were level 6 and they were level 70.

Anyone against a leaderboard is not a pvper, is scared of pvp, and wants to make R99 another P99.

Identify, call atttention to, and expunge them wherever they may be found.

Add leader board, if you kill someone you can't get points for killing them again that hour. Make leader board only show points, not kill/death, that way people don't care about ratio or dying or anything. Maybe each time someone gets points for killing you, you also lose points.

Now that's classic.

Above player and guild leaderboard was classicly calculated using the an original classic Sony live first and only pvp classic point system using a classic anti-griefing classic algorithm of epic and classic proportions, which is shown below.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sullon Zek Point System

Deity Alliance Score System

A base number of 100 points are awarded for a PvP kill when the victim is over level 20. Then 2 points are added per level difference of the killer and the victim. Example: If the killer was level 30 and the victim was level 35, the killer would receive 100 pts + (35 - 30) X 2 for 110pts total. If it was the other way around, the score would be 100pts + (30 - 35) X 2 for 90pts.

There is a soft time limit of 1 hour for PvP kills. This means that killing the same person within the time limit will have diminished returns.

Killing the same person again within the time limit will reward only 50pts. 25 points for the 3rd kill. Zero points for the 4th kill. And finally -25pts for each additional kill after 4 for the time limit.

Being killed in PvP combat in the + or - 5 level range will result in a loss of 25 points.

Deity Insignia’s

Insignia’s come in 4 flavors. Minor, Normal, Greater, and Superior. Only the first 3 can be obtained by looting. Ten lesser insignia’s can be combined in a forge to produce a normal insignia. Ten normal insignia’s can be combined to produce a greater insignia. You then may combine the 10 greater insignia’s to produce a superior deity token.

The insignias themselves each have a point value. 1 pt for lesser, 5 pts for normal, 10 pts for greater, and finally 25 pts for a superior.

The superior tokens can be turned in for ingame rewards. This will be done either by quests or through a GM event.

FAQ:

[PvP’er01 says], “Say I’m level 40 and this guys that’s level 20 has just annoyed me to the point where I kill him a few extra times. Say 3 times within your soft time limit of one hour. How many points would I get for those 3 kills?”

[Answer]: For the first kill you would get 60pts. For the second kill you would get 10pts, and for the 3rd kill you would get -15pts. For a total of 55 pts. The next time, which would be the 4th kill, you would get -40pts. For each additional time that you killed that player, you would get -65pts for each kill. Assuming all these kills were within 1 hour.

[PvP’er01 says], “How come I lose points when I combine my insignias the forge?”

[Answer]: This is the reason for the point loss. I consider it more of a sacrifice. When we do implement rewards for insignias, the turn in insignia will be one of the higher rank insignias. You must either choose to turn them in for rewards and lose points, or keep the insignias and not get the reward.

[PvP’er01 says], “Say I quit playing for a while and I have my name on the leader boards for PvP kills. How long will I stay up there?”

[Answer]: You have approx. 30days and then you will be dropped from the boards and your points removed. Basically, if your character remains inactive for 30 days, it’s as if you never played on the server.
--------------------------------------

Edit: the last answer here in practice was that you would regain your overall points back when you began to play again. If you stopped playing for a while, more current players could see their name in lights.

Also, I always thought it was 5pts per level difference for anti-griefing.

EQ PvP isn't really basketball, and it's not at all a game of points. By trying to turn it into one, I feel you cheapen the experience.

Take heart Softcore. There was even a top negative leaderboard to identify the griefers.

Top Negative Yesterday

1. Ayanae (Good - Wood Elf Ranger) -2,414 pts
2. Tunguska (Good - ) -1,060 pts
3. Clayc (Good - Human Paladin) -998 pts
4. Fonso (Good - Half Elf Rogue) -890 pts
5. Knave (Neutral - Halfling Rogue) -760 pts
6. Raindeth (Good - ) -465 pts
7. Solidus (Evil - Dark Elf Rogue) -369 pts
8. Zafer (Evil - Troll Shadow Knight) -330 pts

You can have a list from which to set your Crusade against.

Information is fun.

One day these pixels that you haven't acquired yet will be gone. The only thing you will have left are the memories and the records. The fraps. The screenshots. The leaderboard. The forum. The drama.

Don't cheapen it be erasing a great classic tool to drum up interest and competition while simultaneously creating more lasting memories. I know who i killed this month 9 years ago. Do you?

1. leaderboard is classic.
2. yellow text is classic.
3. this is a pvp server.
4. leaderboard discourages griefing.

Alas, in this world there are truly indeed windows of opportunity.

Ours is about to close.

Speak up now, or be doomed to wallow in a puddle of uncertainty and helplessness as you try to navigate the terrain of cherished and hallowed days gone by with no landmarks, no way points, no markers of familiarity after the cob webs of memory are swept away - forever relegated to listen to others besmirch your legacy, while being unequipped and unempowered to fight the revisionist powers that be.

Do not let yourself fall to such fate. Petition your staff representative now or face the inevitable consequences of time.

You have been warned.

Listen to me now, or believe me later.

why do people keep bringing up this leaderboard info , where did you get it that tz/vz emu?

leaderboards just encouarge people taking pvp too serious when it wasnt meant to be serious

rolling in groups and jacking solo's is how most people fluff their leaderboards , pvp isnt about that , its a way to solve problems

its the feeling you get knowing theres people in the zone in range to you , who can both prey on you , or be your prey

it solves issues at camps

its fun in a boring sea of blue

just relax and pvp dudes , you dont need a leaderboard , it will just make you into a gate pot farmer
