View Full Version : P99 Question - future expansions

I've been MIA for a few months so I apologize if this was already discussed on the forums.
When I was very active on P99 I thought the server was no longer progressing once the Velious Expansion was released. However, reading the "about the server" section it seems I may have been wrong?
I was just wondering if someone could clear up the intentions for P99 progression.
Project 1999 started development in early 2009, and was released in October of the same year. The mission of the project is to create the classic feeling that many had during the early days of Everquest during those time periods, starting with Classic content and releasing the other expansions and content on a similar timeline that was experienced on Live.

I think I've seen a post by nilbog or Rogean that while they didn't see any expansions being released aside from Kunark or Velious, that there may be other things they do after Velious. I don't recall if it was this server. My search-fu skills are not working well this evening (not enough sleep; too much work) so if someone else can find the post please post it. =)

There has been talk of possibly someday adding altered or original content long after Velious if things go stagnant. But take it with a grain of salt. Velious is still far away, and who knows what mindset people will be in after that.
Some extreme and entirely-made-up examples could come in the form of PoP zones being added as independent raiding planes, or even original dev designed dungeons.
Pretty sure the real mindset is enjoy whats here, and see what happens tho.

Same chance as adding more 80's bands.

There has been some good discussion about post-Velious custom content here:
http://www.project1999.org/forums/showthread.php?t=11879
How players skip Luclin and gear for PoP straight from Velious is still up for debate, but honestly the T1-3 zones could probably be cleared with end-game ST/ToV gear, which would work out just fine for skipping Luclin.

There are only 2 votes that count, and those are nilbog's and Rogean's - and they have already voted. Most of us play here because they agree with those votes.

Some of us are looking forward to adding some custom content after velious, yet keeping in line with the feel of classic everquest.
I don't think AA's will ever be introduced.. I've ripped out so much of it from the code already lol.

Leaving out AAs seems like a good idea anyway, since it encourages alts and thus new people to the server have folks to play with.

AA's are like an elevator ride to Hell that never ends, IMHO.

IMO, pity about AAs. If anything was added past Velious that would be the first thing I would personally want.
In general, introducting selected content past Velious would be ok for me if it was once a part of the early-mid EQ experience.
Introducing new content that had never before existed in EQ is interesting - an exciting idea actually - but I'm not sure I'd want to see it on the classic server. Maybe if the funds could be found and the population supported it, another server could be created to hold classic + custom content. It would be kinda cool also if you could only "port to that server" if you were at level cap in the original one.

im looking forward to the custom content added after velious but you should hire a lore writer for it as that was a big part of EQ
maybe continue where velious left off with custom content involving the sleeper with lots of quests
also dont add anymore new zones from 1 to 50 you dont want to spread the lower level population anymore than it is after velious
luclin was when most old world zone started to become unpopulated

I know this is a bit off topic to this thread, but why does everyone have a problem with Vah Shir? The main thing I've heard is that cat people is stupid and unbelievable. How are lizard people any less stupid and any more believable? Don't get me wrong, Iksars are the greatest race on EQ, but still.
Anyway, I'm fairly sure they're only going to Velious. I wouldn't have a problem if they chose to go to like PoP or something, but remove things like the Nexus, PoK, and The Bazaar. I really liked places like BoT.

The problem everyone has with Vah Shir is that they were on the moon. They're whole story revolved around being blown off Odus by the Erudite faction wars, yet Kerrans (who are Vah Shir with the old polygons) were alive and well a zone away from Erudin. There was little reason to put the Vah Shir on the moon when the story for them was already sitting in Erud's Crossing.
Per Rogean, It's sad to hear AAs may be dropped in custom content. A few classes, like Wizards and Rangers, really needed AAs (excluding mana burn) to truly reach their classic potential. For instance EQ+AM3 made the ranger the class it should have been. I like guineapig's idea of capping AAs so that you have to specialize and can't just max them out. I look forward to any custom content this server does see, but only after an awesome Classic experience =).

even a very limited ammount of aa's would be good imo, not the 3 zillion they have in live even a shorter condensed list of what luclin released would be a great addition. class aa's were such a boon to most if not all classes some were kinda bleh and only picked up for filler though

If they limited you to like 10 aa's that would be fine. I'll take runspeed anyday.
10k+ harmtouches, ranger archery, manaburn?
I sure hope that code is hogged out to the point those are never seen again. /prays

my problem with them is that they're anthropomorphic cats, e.g. furries

I'd rather run3 be omitted than ranger archery. The other 2 examples you provide I agree should be omitted, but rangers as a ranged melee class is cool, allowed them to provide competitive DPS, and brought them out of the stigma they had from the previous expansions. Even here on P99 its "LOLRanger"; EQ+AM3 changed this.
What did run3 change about the game? O, its easier to outrun NPCs indoors now!
Fading memories > run3 any day of the week

I love Rangers but they hardly did "competitive DPS". The ones I remember were knocking on Rogue levels if not surpassing depending on the fight.
Life with Run3 made getting around 30% faster when you couldn't cast sow or jboots. Which meant a game designed to slow down time and space as we know it was only 70% as bad.
