IF YOU DON'T WANT TO BECOME BRAINDEAD THEN DON'T BOTHER READING THE COMMENTS IN THIS THREAD. IT'S FULL WITH FLAMES/DRAMA AND STUPID SHIT. The only relevant thing in this thread is this first post with information.

I decided to log on and actually test resists for real and take some screenshots since there are numerous dumb retards on these forum spreading lies. Not a single one of them actually have a 50 char on beta with good resists. So I wouldn't even spend 1 second listening to a single word they say.

Anyway after reading their bullshit I decided to log and try root before I head out. When I get back home I'm gonna do similar tests with every spell I have.

I posted a comment on every root I casted if it actually hit me.

a) 0.1 seconds basically means that it's off before you even notice you've been rooted. It just stop your char and then you can click forward instantly to move again.

b) 0.5 is similar to 0.1 but like a micro second longer, both these is basically like having a full resist.

I have no freaking clue how the so called TZVZ system worked cause I haven't played this game for 8-10 years. But I'm loving the way this system works. With high resists you can get CC'd but when you do it will last a really short time. There is also no way to lock someone down with a system like this which many people complained about. Sure if you have like 4 people spammin CC on you then you can probably locked down quite well. But CMON if you're in a 1v5 1v6 situation then you deserve to be locked down and killed. On top of that more then half the classes have ways off getting out of CC anyway so most of you will be able to escape 1v5 situations anyway. I know I will on a Wizard at least. Every class has access to instant dispell as well.

You're landing tons of roots over and over on yourself with 140MR which is a lot more than most rogues and monks will have in classic. Something like 100-120MR is what a well geared rogue will have and a monk will have probably 80-100. Don't even try to pretend like everyone on the server will have a Tranix crown plus Jacinth rings either.

With lower resist, they last longer and land even easier. You claim the duration is too short to matter, but this just leaves the door open for Null to change it to whatever he wants at any time before beta closes or after release.

If all it takes to get a free kill is one guy spamming you with a constant stream of roots and snares while another guy does damage, then it's gonna be mindless, no-talent, zerg based PvP.

i dont really care a whole lot about cc spells one way or the other, this change will allow me to actually kill bards and i will just avoid anything more than 2 or so players at a time, the issue is not that it lands for 1 - 4 seconds on average, the issue is that it removes speed buffs and therefore when it breaks you are still effectively snared anyway.

even if you have jboots to hit once it breaks, your foes likely have sow.

First of all Darwoth you're an idiot if you think I have a zerg mentality. I basically only solo PVP and I'm the only member in my guild and I don't plan on inviting anyone else either. I don't freaking care if 100 people chase me. You have loads of ways to escape. Most classes even have gate and if you don't have that then fkin buy a GATE POTION? It's not to hard.. Oh and if you don't wanna spend time farming PP or items you need to escape from these situations then you definitely deserve to die. The system you seem to like is one where a player can have FULL RAID GEAR and basically be invincible. I've already experienced that system in EQ PVP and it's beyond lame. Personally I prefer a challenge. I know ill have good gear on live and all the best utility items and I prefer to have a challenge with people actually landing spells on me. Then me running around in godlike and laughing at people who try to CC me. I understand why bad players would like a system like that. But hey some of us like a challenge.

You have no clue what kind of EQ pvp experience I have. After playing EQ for 4 months I won the Test of Tactics on my server. Then I came 2nd in the SERVERWIDE Test of Tactics tournament where we lost to Afterlife in the final. On the way to the final we destroyed the TWO best teams the PVP servers had to offer. I could go on with numerous of more pvp achievements I had but I really dislike bragging on forums. Pwning you guys in game is enough for me.

Makeyoumad you're still just talking out of your ass like a complete idiot. Have you tried casting CC at 80-100MR or 100-120MR? No you haven't so you should stfu like usual. Also if you guys didn't realize it by now. RED99 is not CLASSIC EVERQUEST nor are they trying to make it CLASSIC EVERQUEST.

Also, any smart developer will cater for the majority of their playerbase and that's the casuals and not the hardcore players like myself. With that in mind I'm sure the majority of the people will want a system where they actually have a chance vs raid geared people instead of them walking around immune to all spells the casuals cast on them.

I know Darwoth is a hardcore player since he's online 24/7 on the beta and I assume this Makeyourmad guy is one as well. The only thing you two seem to care about is having an even higher advantage vs the casual players then what you already have with playing way more and having better gear + more utility items. Personally I hope the developers will just go with their own vision and not listen to everyone here on the forums since most here are just trying to get an advantage for themselves with their posts.

I haven't really been commenting on any of these resist threads because frankly I don't know anything about classic resists and the most recent pvp box I played on before here was VZTZ. Not that I didn't play on a pvp server back in classic, its just that I played on TZ on live when I was 14 and that was almost a decade ago, so how the fuck would I remember anything. I couldn't even tell you what I ate for lunch yesterday.

How about you post proof that is wasn't that way. You won't find anything disproving Arillious because it was never changed until PoP so Sony never post patch notes on it.

Nor was I level 50 or had any gear at all. I had full cloth and not a single item with stats and resists. When you jumped me afk, I had just gotten ICE COMET like 30 seconds before that. I hadn't even used it on a mob before so when you came I wanted to see how it did in pvp and I was 0.2 seconds away from hitting a comet just before you hit your nuke which would have killed you instead. Then 10 min later after Darwoth and Mocmorna was full hp and fully buffed and full mana again they came back to Upperguk. I asked if I could get a clarity cause i couldn't be arsed fighting them again. He didn't reply but I ran to them anyway in hope to get a clarity. The second I arrived Darwoth spammed 5 charges of golem wands on me and him and Mocmorna started chasing me. So I decided to man up and managed to kill Mocmorna in 3 nukes. Then I had to gate cause I was oom

I've said it before and I'll say it again. I WANT TO BE HATED, I WANT PEOPLE TO CHASE ME AND TRY TO KILL ME. That is my goal cause I enjoy the action. I've been trying to find fights EVERY single day I've been online on the beta but NO ONE want to fight me so I just end up chasing and killing everyone instead which is a lot more boring then actually having duels when both are ready. Not really hard to pick off people at XP camps or that are farming items when they most likely aren't even fully buffed, or have full mana or have the correct spells up. Just like when Darwoth found me at 49. Pvp like that is no challenge and you learn nothing from it.

I had never ever bought a pumice until yesterday cause they didn't work when Flip tried them on me a few weeks ago. Same with nullify magic. I always had jboots on first buff so when you cast dot I remove it and cast cancel magic while you're also casting and taking 0 damage. Then I jboots again and repeat. If you didn't realize that which I hear you didn't. Makes you FKIN AWFULLLL BEYOND AWFUL and you have to adjust your play and learn how people deal with druids.

I gated cause I wanted to med up LOL. There was no point in fighting anyone that had over 65 MR/FR/CR during that point in beta cause everything resisted and I also told you that in a PM.

the biggest difference between now and classic eq is the people playing, for example.

Like I said before. You think it's all sunshine and fairy tales until some smart people come along like a chanter who knows wtf he is doing and interrupts your casts with his mez/stuns while his shitty pet slowly eats your health.

You guys think that Verant just threw the PVP system out there and left it alone. They made a lot of changes to help 'balance' PVP. They knew the consequences allowing CC-type spells to land. When you have defined class rolls and not all classes have some type of CC, it really throws the balance off towards the people who have the CC abilities.

There are some experienced, smart players who will exploit the shit out of this system.

EDIT: Allowing root/snare to land is just as detrimental to casters, too. Wait till you have an SK or Paladin spam root/snare on you while smashing your face. Altergate was a good example of that.

Since he has spent more time on that server than over half the other players combined she has all the resist gear you would need. Killing level 42's who have no gear is pretty hard; especially when they have no chance of landing anything on you.

I haven't really been commenting on any of these resist threads because frankly I don't know anything about classic resists and the most recent pvp box I played on before here was VZTZ. Not that I didn't play on a pvp server back in classic, its just that I played on TZ on live when I was 14 and that was almost a decade ago, so how the fuck would I remember anything. I couldn't even tell you what I ate for lunch yesterday.

Did you play eq in classic? If so then you know that at 140 MR, you would ALMOST never be rooted or snared. according to lovely and his screenshots the resistance system was working properly when he nukes for 600 on a target with 90 - 130 cr (cant remember what i had at the time) and gets nuked for 9 with 60 fr.

None of those items had any affect on our fight lol. It's something that doesn't matter at all. It's also not lying, it's not exactly remembering what gear you had at level 49. I'm sure not a single player here would remember the exact item they had at certain levels on a 10x beta where you get 20+ levels a day if you exp properly. I know for a fact that I didn't farm resist gear the first weeks of being 50 even. Most people that I've pvp against can confirm that even Darwoth. Not that he would confess it. I had 100% INT items until about a week ago. (I was even trashed in /ooc by Holocaust basically everyday for running around in cloth at level 50 for ages, which I found kinda funny cause I destroyed them without having any proper resist gear)

Also I don't give a flying shit about dying afk at a Wiz spire at level 49 to a level 50, the most funny fact is that I was half a second away from killing him when coming back from afk at 80% hp. I even manned up unprepared vs a higher level player even though I wasn't full hp and had a dot on me that removes like 80% of my hp if it isn't dispelled. During that time i didn't even know I could dispell dots lol. Funny enough I'm not disliked at all in game. Most people seem to like me a lot since I'm getting spammed with tells non stop and there isn't even many people playing the beta lol! I'm actually having huge problems finding people to kill because I've befriended most of the people in my range. Haha you come on beta and have success and think your shit doesn't stink? This is beta. This being your first EQ PVP experience I can see why you attacked the beta with such zeal - spending 10x the amount of time on the server than anyone else getting whatever you need to be successful. Well, guess what. The rest of the crowd has already been there, done that. We don't feel like spending so much time acquiring items that are going to be wiped in a few weeks. I've spent a decent amount of time on the server but still only have 2 items that give me total of +5 wisdom. As much as I would like to have the resist gear to do some proper testing (even if it is just casting on my two characters) I just can't bring myself to doing it knowing that it is going to be gone.

In all seriousness caring about the resists is pretty dumb! At the end of the day we will all have to play with the same system. What i mean to say is regardless of the resist system the players who are better than average are still going to come out on top.

Or whatever classes the system benefits the most. On VZTZ, the #1 ganking class was wizard by far. Just sneak up on someone, ice comet, stun, ice comet, instant death, no talent whatsoever required lol.

The spells shouldn't be landing that often at all. The screenshots in the OP show a success rate of nearly 50% against 140 MR. Only root was tested, and since it breaks quickly even when it lands, it's judged to be fine. Root is the only CC spell with a variable duration. If he'd tested snare, for instance, he'd find that he'd have been able to keep himself snared permanently for 20 minutes with that resist rate since snare doesn't get constant resist checks to see if it breaks early. Same with stuns and mez.

100 MR should mean any of these spells have such a low chance to land that you generally don't have to worry about them. They might land now and then, but that's what you have pumice for, or that's when you deserve to die. Anything considerably above 100 MR should make you virtually immune to these effects save for the inherent x% chance any spell has of landing. This is not merely how it "should be" in order to ensure quality PvP but also how it was at the time.

Melees don't need to be completely immune to CC in order to PvP, they just need it to be so that they resist them the significant majority of the time. With a 50% resist rate, it's only root that you don't have to worry about. Anyone can snare-kite you until you die or keep you mezzed infinitely. 140 MR is what most classes cap out at unbuffed (warriors can get 25 more by default and melees tend to get 20ish more than casters due to access to more resist gear). Most people will have around 100-120ish unbuffed with good gear because squeezing out every last drop of MR means sacrificing everything else, from FR/CR to AC, hp and mana.

It was plenty possible to PvP in mostly your planar set and then key resist pieces like bloodstained mantle, tranix crown and JC rings/bracelets/neck. You won't have insane resists that way, but you'll have the benefit of wearing actual gear for decent AC or mana pool. With the resist rate of the OP screenshots, you'd have to ditch everything else and scrape up every last point of MR in order to do well - we're looking at a wizard in pretty much the best PvP gear and he has 140 MR (presumably with his shielding buff that adds like 25) and his own root is landing almost half the time.

Two notes, though:

- Are we absolutely sure that spells cast on yourself are accurately reflecting the resists you'd see on a different target? People always said it wasn't the same, that casting on yourself gave odd results. Dunno if that's the case, but I wish people would do their tests with other players just to check.

- I don't remember root always breaking that early when it did land. When you got rooted with high MR, it'd usually last a full tick or so before breaking early. It's pretty consistently 0.1 seconds in that test, and that looks a bit weird to me. Early root breaks should work pretty much like partial resists, shaving off a varying percentage of the damage (duration) but rarely landing for less than 20-30% when it actually did land against a high resist. From my recollection, partial nukes would usually do approximately a quarter, half or three quarters damage and roots would be similar with regard to their duration. 0.1 sec breaks happened, but they'd just as often last 5-10 seconds on the rare occasion that they did land.
