apparently DoT dmg to mobs that were moving was cut in half during kunark(due to a patch). not sure how long it lasted, but i've heard it will be patched back in a some point(dots doing full dmg to a moving target) following the eq classic<kunark<velious time line. one can only hope.

I started playing in April 2001 (shortly after Velious release) and I *think* that the dot damage nerf while mobs moved (non feared) was still in effect then. It definitely wasn't anymore when I started aggrokiting, which would have been shortly before or after the Antonius Bayle server was created (around September? 2001) , still quite a long time pre-Luclin.

IIRC correctly that nerf went in a couple months into classic, and was repealed late Velious

Repealed to me says it was ill-advised and shouldn't have been implemented in the first place, so why would this server have it? Just because that's how it was for a little while in classic?
Cases like this (something gets patched in and then repealed in classic) should not be echoed here. This server shouldn't repeat mistakes like that just because they actually existed for a short while.
But that's me. I'm not looking to relive every classic patch as it happened 10 years ago, I'm just looking for a fun classic experience the way it should have been, which is not always the way it actually was. Repeals of changes means that's not how it should have been.

I think you have a good point - I tend to agree with you. The danger in this type of thinking is that it introduces an element of judgement over what should and should not be considered classic. That could very easily turn into a slippery slope. The safest course and ultimately the course which most resembles classic (and therefore IS more classic) is to duplicate the nerfs of the period, even though they may be eventually repealed.
To illustrate just how slippery that slope is, what would you do with a nerf that got "repealed" after the introduction of Luclin on Live? You could make the argument that since it was eventually repealed and therefore a bad idea and should never have been instituted. However, since there are no plans to Advance this server as far as Luclin (in fact the plan is to NOT do this), you have to make a judgement call. This is not just idle speculation. Of the two recent "nerfs" (2/3 damage dots will forward moving mob and root/snare overwriting) that affected Druids and Necros both, one of these was repealed during Velious and one not repealed until after Luclin (I forget which is which). Personally, I'd love to see them both go away, or never have been put it. But I can see why they did and I know that one of these will never go away here.

I would say anything post-Luclin shouldn't occur, with possible exceptions like the moving DOT damage or root/snare overwriting...things that should have been changed all along but took them too long to do.
It's definitely a judgement call, just as it was back then. If a change was made due to mechanics or something in a new expansion then obviously it shouldn't occur here, but if it's something like DOT damage or root/snare overwriting, maybe it should occur here.
DOT damage was repealed during Velious, so that says it was a short-lived change that should never have been. There's no need to duplicate it here.
It doesn't have to be 100% authentic to classic, including ill-fated temporary patch changes. The server is already not 100% authentic.
It's silly to implement a nerf you know is going to be reversed somewhere down the line. Don't implement it in the first place and avoid the mistake Verant/Sony made in classic. Some of the mistakes are part of the charm of the game (Hollish Tnoops in the wall for instance), but others are changes that wound up being mistakes that they later repealed.
Perhaps an official discussion thread should be opened for any of those potential situations? Get the players' feedback and maybe gain some insight into why a change like that should be implemented or not. I'm of the mind that just because it was in classic doesn't mean it should have been, and in those cases it might be better to forget how it was.

Hybrid exp penalty falls into this category as well!

Feel free to make your own server the way you want it. Nilbog has stated time and time again that he wants it to be as close as possible to the live progression, including the negative aspects. I am not going to suggest you stop posting your opions, i am just going to inform you they do not matter.

Understandable, and nothing wrong with that. There would also be nothing wrong if he chose not to implement those temporary changes.
I'm here because it's classic, so it's not like I'm finding much fault in those decisions.
