View Full Version : Monk Questions
I'm looking for a resource that will show me the DPS gain or loss between naked fists and weapons. I know 8/20 is better than 8/28, as an example, but due to the fact that I haven't played EQ in about 7 years, I'm at a loss if 10/33 is better than 8/20.
Is there a website, or a general rule of thumb to follow that will allow me to maximize my DPS?

ya the general rule of thumb is math.
10 divided by 33 = .3030303
8 divided by 20 = .4
.4 > .303
get it?

iirc, the rule is : 1 dmg for 2 delay
So a 8/20 would still be better than a 10/33 but would be equal to a 10/24
Yep, you can find more info through this thread : http://www.project1999.org/forums/showthread.php?t=1002

It's easier than you think as Silentone mentioned.
Until damage bonuses come into play (mainhand dual-wield or 2h), you always go for ratio. Divide the damage by delay and compare it to the other weapon, whichever is higher wins. Once damage bonus is an issue than mainhand speed typically wins out unless the ratio is massively better.
There are other factors to consider such as ripostes, aggro, and consistent dps. For example an IFS may rock for solo due to the riposte factor and even out-ratio other weapons but the damage will be streaky. Not over a span of minutes but perhaps per fight. Over a span of multiple mobs things even out but whiffing a few times with a 40 delay 2hander is frustrating in a narrow scope of time.

Unfortunately there's a LOT of factors of that affect your DPS besides mathematical ratio of the weapon itself.
If you'd like to do your own testing download Gamparse: http://gambosoft.com/Pages/Downloads.htm
This is configured to be used on EQ Live, so you may need to alter some of the settings to get it to work properly. For example, I think it throws out all fights under 50,000 HP or something :p set that to 1 to show all fights.

Once damage bonuses/procs start making an impact it does get confusing quick. For example, the IFS vs Peacebringer isn't simply solved with a calculator.
Still, in the early levels the 8/20 vs 10/33 requires only slightly more science than a coin toss. Damage caps up till 20 favor quick weapons.
