Is there really a difference?

Think about it. Let's start from the beginning.

PK = Player-Killing

So if you were Anti Player-Killing, doesn't that mean that you would not partake in any sort of killing of players at all?

Allow me to illustrate...

The only difference is that anti PK's don't kill each other and PK's kill everyone.

Antis pk in self-defense, and the defense of others. PKs kill arbitrarily :p

I guess I'd be a semi pk since I am friendly to young newblets but tend to slay other guilds on sight.

You are all dumb!

The term anti-pk as far as the EQ definition started on rallos which really meant Anti-Random PK. I.E. Most of the guilds didn't just randomly attack anyone PvP was usually driven by raid competition or people in guild A being asses to people in guild B. Guilds like Darkenbane, Flowers of Happiness PK'd anyone and the Anti-PK guilds made it their life purpose to slay said guilds (And mostly they failed.)

On eqemu "PK" and "Anti-PK" have slightly different meanings:

PKers = People who attack everyone in sight regardless of whether they're a threat so that they can get a chance at precious yellow text/a better position in the leaderboard
Anti-PK = people who are well-adjusted and attractive irl

Not like said guilds where a danger to anyone once you passed mid lvl range, let alone meant anything in high end gameplay.;)

What it boils down to.

PK's tend to roam around zones like South Karana furiously tapping track to find someone to slay for the fuck sake of slaying someone. In a sense they'll spend more than 70% of their playtime looking at /who ques and porting around to gank, and this is how they choose to play on a PvP server.

Anti-PK is situational and by no means is it anti-pvp, the average anti-PK guild is highly grind oriented and would rather passively PvP when the opportunity arises (I.E a camp dispute, or zone control) these guilds spend most of their play time leveling.

Anti's only clash with PK's when it comes to zone control.

For example:

Several Anti-PK guilds claim solb as a leveling spot
Those anti guilds have a mutual assistance pact to level in "peace"
PK's kill a member of an anti guild or infringes on anti's zone control
Anti's then actively engage in PvP to regain zone control or to avenge a fallen member

Basically, when you join an anti-PK guild you're joining for protection from ganking and losing camps when PvP happens.

A good summary.

It's not a roleplay guild... I don't intent on roleplaying and the majority of people I associate with do not care either. We're in it for the pixels and the glory.

My personal favorite was that FoH would pk each other too. Nothing was funnier than seeing a gangbang of Flowers pking everyone and each other in innothule swamp. A cloth shirt would swap hands 20 times within 10 minutes.

On VZ there was an elf only guild that included dark elves. They were a roleplay guild, and both sides of elves would kill the other. It was very interesting, and I think unique to vz :)
