I've seen it happen several times today while PVPing on the beta. I'm a level 44 wizard first of all.

1) So I went to Lguk to do some PVP. There was a group of 3 people, Sloris a level 40 mage, Cwall 35 shaman and Samwise a level 30 druid.

So I attack the level 40 mage and then both Cwall and Samwise came in my range and they both could attack me. But I couldn't attack them back and I assume it's not suppose to be like that? You're suppose to be able to attack anyone who attack you correct?

Later on in Sol A this monk named Rexx could attack me, but I could not attack him back? Made no sense at all. Same thing happened to Fratboy in Lavastorm, this cleric called Katyperry could dispell and attack him but he could not attack her back.

I'm assume this is a bug since it makes no sense at all that low level ppl can attack you while you cant do anything to defend yourself.

Yesterday I tested a bit with Mack around Guk after a bunch of mixed level PvP. During the fight we noticed that I was able to hit him but he couldn't fight me back. So we stopped and zoned out to Innothule.

I'm not sure of his exact level but the char I was on was only level 10. He's way above my level range. But straight on 1v1, when he buffed me, I could attack him, but he couldn't attack me back.

The server will be using a dynamic level range system. Any actions towards another player will increase your dynamic pvp range to match that player's spread. For example:
A level 30 player attacking a level 32 player will increase the range they can be attacked by from 22 to 40.
Anything outside the +/- 8 Levels does not mean you will be able to attack players outside that range. It will only mean you can be attacked by players within the new range. However, If a player outside your 'natural' spread decides to attack you, they will in return also have their own range changed in the same fashion, making them attackable by you.
This change is immediete. For a melee attack it will happen as soon as you swing at the other player. For any spells, the change will be immediete upon the start of a spell cast. This also applies to beneficial spells.
Tested this some earlier. Chap was below my range (lvl34, I'm lvl50), and I tossed him a heal. As I did, it gave the message about my lvl range having now been changed accordingly. His name turns yellow; he could now attack me freely. However, even though he had attacked me, I could not attack back and he was protected from my spells. Tried with a lvl40 guy who was also in zone, and he could also attack me, and I couldn't attack him back either. The lvl40 said that he got a message that he got a message about him being now able to be attacked by levels 32-42.

Is it that the system somehow fails to adjust the other out-of-range players' range after the first ones range has been adjusted? I srsly doubt the point of the system is to create situations where one person is defenseless to the attack of the others, and has no choice but to escape or die. Something also about groups causing this to happen (so it's not just if the higher lvl heals the other guy), but haven't got to figuring out that yet.

On an unrelated note, the guy 16 levels below me was hitting his fire DDs on me every cast np despite me sitting on 85FR at the time. What the hell? =p

Logged in on my level 6 and 4 characters today, and got 1 shotted by a 41 cleric because I conned orange without having done anything.

Seen cases of this too btw. I had just ported into steamfont, hadn't done anything as far as I can recall, and this nearby lvl3 gnome enc had orange name and idd could kill the poor chap.

I believe this is what happened in my experience with the rogue in my other post. that he could attack me and my party but i couldn't fight back.

i tested this with brut just now, and its as he says. me being 34 and him being 50 i can now attack him and there's nothing he can do about it but run away.

Is this supposed to discourage getting buffed by your higher level buddies? That seems exceptionally harsh. Especially if you're just tryin' to help a new guy out by tossing him a SoW and inadvertently increasing his level range to the upper 30's.

There should never be a situation where you cannot attack a player that is attacking you. I'll go over the code again.

Happened to me a little while ago as well.

- Order of events was:
Unsure if person in lvl range, so I tried casting (didn't know the naming color scheme at the time)
I get msg of being able to be attacked by lower lvls.
Spell fails to land due to target being protected.
Target begins to melee me.
Further spell cast attempts continue to give protected error.
