There was a good reason PvP wasn't until level 6 on ALL pvp servers, even VZ/TZ on emu.

A level 2 or even a level 5 with 8 level range is ridiculous, and is discouraging player population.

Even with a group of level 3-5's, a level 8 or 9 can demolish them without trying.

This is stupid and should be changed.

There won't always be hordes of people that level to gank you :P

Levels 1-6 are still the easiest anyway, even with all the PKs.

I'm still in favor of a 4 level range and item loot. 8 levels seems to follow an "encourage pvp" design rather than "with option to pvp".

i admit i was getting the giggles doing some level 2 slaying. But it should definitely be put in place to restrict pvp to within 2 levels at that level range imo till your like level 10+

it is kind of funny that Project1999 stresses classic so hard (even though i have a fucking compass at the top of my screen :mad: ) and Red1999 is just there doing it's own thing.

Classic pvp server was definatly level 1 pvp enabled. I remember huge newbie fights at all times.

i, too, recall huge newbie fights (particularly in feerrott), but i also distinctly recall grinding periods to get to lvl 5 or whatever to participate in said newbie fights.

yep i have to agree on this. pvp before lvl 5 or 6 is not newbiefriendly and those first few levels are crucial for newcomers to decide if they wana stick around or leave the server

(in before some vztz reject says different)

I tend to agree although it is really only a problem when the server is very new or hopefully will be. Turn it on at 6 or 8 IMO.

oh no what would i do if i couldnt blueb it up with linked items and had to look at a spellbook for the first 2% of my characters lifespan, i surely will miss windowed mode and constantly misclicking the blue bar and fucking my screen all up though.

I witnessed a nub get gang tackled into a dirtnap, ask /ooc if the "pvp protection buff was working" then log out after.
Telling someone to log out and try later who is level 2 on a server that will wipe the character eventually anyway = back to blue99 where they can accomplish something.
The pops at the time of this post, blue: 457 ; red: 186.

I think these numbers will get pretty considerably closer to each other when the real deal is released and stress is worth it.

Staring at spell book? How's that for your caster advantage?

I think if they quit over that at low level, they'd quit over it at high level too, no difference really imo.

Suggestions, since I'll be playing on actual red99 no matter how messed up beta is:

-PvP starts level 6, because this is a NO TEAMS server, a range of - / + 8 is way too much. Lower the range to - / + 4. Dynamic level range is brilliant, mad props to the devs on that.

-Boxing shouldn't be in at all, but since it is, it should be limited to 2 per IP during Beta. Anymore is lame. People aren't testing shit anyway, 90% are griefing with 4 mages.

PvP in classic started at 1. I remember playing a DE Nec and immediately attacking someone after making my character and he started shouting, "OMG PK, SAME RACE KILLER" or some bullshit. That's my first memory of EQ PvP on Rallos.

you sir clearly did not play on early pvp servers

the opening of Tallon Zek saw EC filled with Dark elves and Humans fighting at lvl 1


now that i think about it, they may have changed it to 6, however those first hours of TZ was lvl 1

Maybe we should get rid of the safe zones at level 1 then too. Can't say I see much difference between pvp at lvl 1 or 2.

Seems like this is only really for invulerable traders in the cities? Not needed, let trust and reputation be your guide.... or become notorious when you insist on some last minute negotiations with the person you've met to trade with, that end in his unfortunate death...

Just make it classic IMO, remove the safe zones and the lvl 1 immunity thing.

Its a problem now because its "beta" and everyone is being stupid with their boxes and toons named "Fuck".

The faction hits for killing your own kind was not 1999 rallos.

edit: But I do agree that faction in general needs to be fixed, guards, GM trainers, etc. need to help whoever they have higher faction with when they see people fighting. This is a very important thing.

Ya I rage quit at level 4 because I got bind camped at spawn point near guard. I couldn't believe it wasn't level a 6 min. Thought it was. And PvP range should probably be 6 as well...Crying and quitting for Gears 3 aint bad :-) haha

8 level range always worked for me on live. And yes, they should make it like 2 levels until you get to 10 or so.

Getting to higher lvls is not bad at all. When beta's over there might be a lot more bitching but people would have played through it once and be fine IMO.

Honestly, I thought having it start at lvl 2 would be a bitch and I did get smacked right away, but I was ok with it. Chocolate ganked me thrice right off the bat but it got me to rethink my gameplay quite a bit and I'm actually thankful he did that.

The -+8 lvl is pretty tough, maybe it could be -+6 lvls to make it a bit more fair. But I haven't thought about that much.

I'd like to know who of you are playing the pure evil DE necro that will just fuck with everyone in their group or the knight in shining armor that will seek vengeance on the perpetual corpse/bind camper ganking unsuspecting newbs 12 lvls below. Seems like rep is basically all we have on this server.

Lols, I think in the server annoucement News Rogean said that lvl 1's would be flagged for PvP outside of city zones. Also in the list of non functioning aspects atm was that lvl 1s wouldnt be PvP flagged for PvP in cities. I didnt test it but it sounds like PvP begins at lvl 1.

because i did it with my mage. i hung around kaladim invis and snuck up on lvl 1 dwarfs to one shot them until i replaced my ganked greater lightstone :p
