I can straight up say, I have not PVP'd in Everquest. I never played on a PVP server, so I'm going to take the opportunity to give it a try.
My question to the experienced PVPer's is:
Can you progress and survive on a PVP server without a guild ?

Well you can still find groups and make in-game friends. Not everyone is going to want to kill you all of the time, especially if you could be an asset to an exp group you have going. Lots of people will attack you, but not everyone.

The more friends you have the better. An easy way to do this is to join a guild.

You can do just fine without a guild or in a non-PK guild. The important thing about PvP server is reputation and networking. Meet players from other guilds, learn about their enemies, hunt them together, don't be a dick. If guilds know you're an asshole, some people will go out of their way to hunt you down and make life miserable.
PvP is really about watching your back and protecting your goddamn neck ;) get used to doing /who often to find out if enemies wandered into your zone.

It definitely helps. Being a random PK opens the door up to destroying your reputation. I can't really venture a guess as to how this will play out in the long run. But, if you piss off the right people early on, consider yourself out of one guild or the other. The current guilds won't be the exclusive cliques they are as of current, they will have to open recruitment, PK/talk enough shit at lvl 5.... you may have sealed your fate.
/gasp: reputation matters.

Yes, but endgame will be rough because everquest pvp is 85% gear, 15% skill.

I'd take about 40% of the 85% and put it in a separate category: organization and preparedness.

I don't think having a bigger guild is totally needed. I have always been in my joke guild ' Hand of Tonomar' . I still get invited to go pve raids, pvp raids , etc. Just making friends with some people will help you go a long way on a pvp server. All the people who rage at me or curse at me for hours on end about being a scrub usually end up being friends of mine sooner or later.

Engel i am surprised at your ratio for pvp winning.. I think in EQ pvp is definately more skill than anything and preparedness.. gear doesnt hurt but if u cant pvp.. gear isnt gonna help.
