View Full Version : Hypothetical dot question

If red99 goes with the 66% spell damage penalty that's commonly seen in PvP and also keeps the 66% penalty for dots on moving targets, will they stack and render dots largely ineffective in PvP?

It just struck me. Take something like Winged Death, a druid PvP staple, which ticks for 143. At 66% effectiveness (from the PvP spell penalty), that's 94 damage. If the moving penalty then applies, that's 62 damage, not exactly a threat at those levels.

If that's the case, dots will be largely useless in PvP. At the same time, I can't imagine that the devs will want 100% spell damage, nor would they remove the dot penalty since they presumably want to adhere to the classic mechanics. The only solution I can see is that they won't both apply at the same time.

Might be pulling this out over my ass but I think the moving dots reduction didmt apply to pvp, it just doesn't ring a bell

Never even heard of this moving penalty. Doubt that will be in. I would not mind seeing the dot 66% though. Especially since melee do less damage.

moving penalty was a late addition. Wasn't in day 1.

npc dot reduction was like within 3 months, pvp dmg nerf was within 5-6 months.. both are classic patches so should be in.

dot reduction for pvp was overall, standing moving blowing your neighbor, etc. 20% reduction for direct dmg. ht was later changed to 66% i think during kunark.

omfg, I just remembered Necro Splurt. Hopefully that already has the pvp nerfbat. Pre-patch, people would just scream "omfg I'm splurted" followed by some taunts and the lack of skill involved.

progressive damage dots like splurt were always dispelled before the bulk of their damage began to tick.

moving penalty was a late addition. Wasn't in day 1.

Extremely late, was a PoP era nerf after flags were removed from Bastion of Thunder and below, and was mainly to nerf Bards.

Uh like winged death didnt tear people up, yeah ok. Envenomed bolt didn't either.

/rolleyes

You know dots can be dispelled and cured right?
(ps: make sure cure poison/disease counters work correctly in pvp, 1 click removal for EB was no bueno in previous emu implementations)

You mighta missed when resists got so high that lures even got resisted sometimes and even scrubs'd fully resist base line non lures.
