Do you, or do you not care about and take seriously Project 1999?
This is ten year old content, on an emulated server. People seem to use that a lot in various rants as if the fact that people give a shit about p99 makes them stupid. Well, I for one give a shit, and I don't think that makes me stupid. Am I alone here? What is the general sense? Do you guys take this game as seriously as you would a pay for play game? To me, there is no distinction, because my time is much more valuable than any subscription fee. To me, there is no distinction because the content is still fun for me even tho it is known. It is still challenging to get right for me, and if you swear you disagree, I think you're a liar, because I don't see even the best of the best on this server playing 100% right 100% of the time.

So, let's end this catch phrase as a weapon of haters trying to undermine how we choose to spend our time. Do you guys give a shit and take this seriously? Like, not SRS BSNS seriously, but as far as MMOs go? I play p99 just as hard as I would any other game.. Do you?

For me, nothing touches EQ Classic, and P99 is the only place I play. I don't give a rat's a** what anyone thinks.

I think the voting options are biased anyway. Your options are either "yes this is serious i play hard" or "no this isn't serious i don't give a crap".

For me, i play pretty hard, i enjoy it, and my time is important. But i'm totally out of the whole drama/argument/bitching thing because i am very aware that we are playing on a 10 year old game. Something about that prevents me from getting bitchy about anything.

So you need an option "Yeah i care, but this IS a 10 y/o game, we could stand to take things a little less seriously." - which i believe is what most proponents of the 10 y/o argument mean.

Maybe it's just that you've misunderstood their intent that you dislike it so much, cos i've used this phrase in cases of extreme drama, and all i mean is - hey, calm down a little, this isn't life or death. We play ANY mmo for fun and people get overly obsessed, but for me an emu server of a 10 year old game i almost feel stupid for getting worked up.

I clicked on the No option just because it is closest to how i feel . I for one try not to get worked up about any game be it online or offline , they are just games and nothing more . They are a nice way to pass some time and to relax when the real world get to be kind of heavy on your shoulders but as a means of entertainment they shouldn't be taken to seriously, having said that i truly enjoy 1999 it is my EQ Emu of choice right now and a lot of fun but getting worked up over a online game be it pay or free is a sign that maybe its time to take awhile off and check the real life priority's. Just my two cents worth , take it a face value :)

I don't play as seriously, knowing that private servers can be taken down in a matter of minutes if they get a cease and desist letter from their parent companies. I've seen it happen in other games and it really made me realize that it's not as reliable, I lost all my work for like 2 years of game play.

I enjoy old school games in general. Like Karsten said, I also enjoy the old Snes RPGs and various SRPGs (Final Fantasy Tactics is still my favorite) that most people would deem as having "crappy gfx".

Solid gameplay goes alot further for me than eyecandy.

I don't play this nearly as serious as I did back in EQ Live in 1999. Already knowing what to do and where to go makes it so I can dink off a little more while playing, but I still take my role in whatever class im playing at the time serious. I still find people who kill bosses an accomplishment. I still find server-firsts great. etc etc.

But I play no where near as serious as I used to in live back in 99'. Mainly because back then it was new, now it's a replay.

Found out about this great and glorious server...and my hubby and I left WoW to play here permanently. It's classic EQ (hopefully eventually to be Kunark and Velious)...no PoP, no Luclin. Just regular old graphics, pain in the ass corpse run EQ. And we love it! :)

Considering that we are talking about games after all, I don't think I'd call what I do on any of them "serious".

But I am spending more time on this server than in any other computer games (or all of them combined, really- I usually only play one thing at a time).

The 10 year old game statement is being taken too literally. Ya the game is 10 years old and that does not matter much. It is more like the content has been beaten, posted on, strats refined, etc. It's not all that much of an accomplishment to take out content that everyone knows about. The only thing is you got there first. You didn't wipe 100s of times figuring out a strategy. Only to finally do it and have the contet nerfed 2 weeks later.

Take sky for example. Everyone knows the path through sky. The secrets
have been posted all over the net it even has numerous dedicated sites to it's story, strategies, etc. Getting from isle 1 to 8 isn't as magical as it once was. Getting to sister isle alone was quite the mystery. Wiping over and over and over again on bee island because you didn't know WTF was happening (first time mobs split). Now it is regurgitated content. Anyone who wants to know how to get through sky just has to type "plane of sky" into their favorite search engine. You can apply this logic to EQ as a whole. That is why the "why so serious over an 10 year old game" statement will never die.

P99 is great to play but when anyone gloats about it... It's about as much of an accomplishment now as figuring out the clues in atari's Swordquest tomorrow.
