In original early EQ, I remember making profit off of baking fish fillets and selling them back to merchants with high enough charisma. It was an ok way to make some cash as a lowbie.

Today I was disappointed to find that even with decent charisma, I was not making any profit off of the fillets (selling to merchant at about 3 gold a stack).

Anyone have any more information on this? It might have been changed at some point but i think it was later on.

Thanks!

Hey there, gonna try to answer this myself!

Prior to Planes of Power there were many combines that resulted in a small profit while doing tradeskills. The Devs never saw this as a problem because tradeskilling was such a pain in the rear thing to do. However people started to get smart and create programs that automatically purchased components, did combines and sold the finished tradeskill items to vendors, while nobody had to be at the keys.

These programs did all of this much faster that a human could, and there was no fatigue factor. People ran these programs 24/7 for weeks at a time netting hundreds of thousands of platinum with absolutly no risk. During PoP there was a huge tradeskill sell back adjustment because of this, which pretty much removed any profit combines.

While you are correct in remembering this as classic, this is one of those "classic" things that will never be implimented here on P99 because the programs still exist, it would cause a huge influx of platinum and destroy the servers economy.

Yup, if you ever find any tradeskill thing that you actually net a profit from you are honor bound to report it in all honesty.
