View Full Version : Earthquake in GFay last night? Devs?

I and apparently everyone else in GFay at the time experienced something quite odd last night.

I can only describe it as an earthquake. I was running along between Kelethin and Felwithe at the time, when suddenly my screen went crazy. It only lasted for a few seconds. It's hard to describe, so I made this crude mockup animation to show you pretty much exactly what I saw (assuming I was a purple box and not a bard):

http://vimeo.com/28200400 (May have to play it through more than once after it buffers since it' so short. I had to.)

Obviously I dismissed it as a graphical glitch, until I saw comments like this in OOC:

"wtf was that?"
"earthquake!"
"i thought my graphics card fried"
"it's the Hole opening event lol"
"wow i thought i glitched"

So apparently it was zone-wide. I didn't realize something like that was even possible in EQ. Did it happen in other zones as well? And what on earth was it? Any idea devs?

It's a GM command rogean or uthgaard do when they're bored.

Haha, oh. Well huh. That was solved rather quickly.

I live in Qeynos and cannot believe that you are so concerned about such a small screen shake. Over here we have screen shakes ALL the time.

Nevermind the fact that they pretty much never happen in Gfay, but you should probably man up and stop worrying so much.

/shrug
hard to tell... it is the gamewide shaking that occurs when the hole opens
but the quakes happened like 3-4 weeks ago also

so for now i think they are just having fun pushing the button
prolly no need for a mad rush to paineel just yet

actually...everytime theres a quake i would go check
i think we are due/overdue so.. check whenever it quakes (even tho theres only one explosion that opens the hole)

Haha, well this thread shows my noobishness. I played back in classic, but I don't remember the quakes. I don't even remember the hole. And I thought I knew this game. Apparently not.

The hole didn't open until Kunark, so original EQ classic didn't have the hole (which is why its getting ready to open for us now).

What you don't understand is Antonica has many more carved out underground areas (Black Burrow, Qeynos Sewers, Guk, etc..) plus active pressure release points (Lavastorm), so the land is more fractured and earthquakes resonate less than in the solid land mass of Faydwer.

Uth sits invis in Sky and waits for the puller to jump from 6 to 5 and presses the Serverwide Earthquake hotkey right as he is ready to leap.

There was no earthquake. That was simply Slather standing, carry on.

Open that hole for us, devs. We want to plunder it.
