Are there any single player games with an expansive world that feels lived in like Everquest? A game with unique named npcs to seek out in custom elaborate dungeons? A game where you form a party with classes that complement each other with their unique abilities they bring to the party.
A difficulty where you must play well or be smashed. Use CC, beefy class in the front, enhancements to the party, and debuffs to the NPCs, healing.
Possibly faction in different towns and areas where you are welcomed on some where you are not.
I haven't found anything like this. Some recommend games like Elden Ring and stuff but it's not that similar.

BG3 is a lot like that, though the gameplay is significantly different.
hmm. a game with all you listed in single player nothing comes to mind. there are some games out there that do have a similar 'vibe' as EQ, in that, the world feels lived in, but EQ is pretty unique in that regard i've found. its probably why its the game I keep coming back to over the years.
Elder Scrolls Morrowind/Oblivion/Skyrim (morrowind probably has the best eq vibe with living world)
BG3 (as mentioned above)
Dragon Age Origins (I hear inquisition is good, too. idk about the others)
Valheim has a lot of similarities to EQ
Outward also reminded me of EQ alot
Neverwinter Nights/NWN 2 with it being based in DnD have similarities to EQ
Elden Ring I felt was similar in difficulty and open world mystery, but the vibe wasnt the same.
Monsters and Memories is ALOT like EQ, but thats multiplayer/mmorpg, not single player.
with everquest feel
there's a single player MMO called Erenshor, like all the "players" are NPCs as well, i enjoyed it def has a everquest vibe going on
SmWc_3G6igo
looks like he added raids and more zones since last i played it

Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen
The world isn't as big as it was originally meant to be, though Bitter Black Isle compensates for this, providing a gameplay loop dungeon crawl and EQ levels of RNG for rare items. BBI will curbstomp you, unless you're a Magick Archer which has an answer to most everything lurking around the corner.
In addition to DPS, MA has hard CC and group/self buffs, being able to swap between bow, daggers, and staff. The class even gets a bow that heals over time when standing still, which can restore HP rapidly when dragonforged. Warrior is hardmode with the least skills and weapon options available in combat, but it can absolutely chunk HP down with the right setup. Very satisfying. Then there's mystic knight, fighter, assassin, strider, ranger, sorcerer, and mage; check out nihil 0.0 on YouTube for an in-depth demonstration of each. All characters equipped with rusted weapons can apply slow, gold weapons to apply silence. Plus there are some unique weapon options that can alter one's playstyle altogether, namely Force Hatchet.
A lot of the vocations have an EQ feel to them, each with a variety of skills and passive augments to customize your character, not to mention gear, of which there's quite a bit. Best in slot exists but doesn't matter a great deal.
Though a few vocations are off-limits to "pawn" group members, most will complement your character regardless. You get your own pawn, plus up to 2 additional pawns from online, all customized by other players.
At one point, your faction gets ruined in the main city so all of the guards will aggro and you can farm to your heart's desire.
The list goes on.

OP after about 30 mins of playing this game you wil be like wtf is this everquest?
It's exactly like final fantasy 1 and everquest had a baby.
Based on what OP describes, this is the game for them!

I remember the beginning being very unforgiving, similar to how 1st edition DnD could be: “Whoops your level 1 wizard only has 4hp and that rat he was trying to kill just bit for 4dmg guess he’s dead for a long time before you’ll encounter ways to rez”
So in that regard also very similar to EQ ;)
I will mention even though it’s already been said that I transitioned to playing P99 from playing Baldur’s gate 1 and the SoD expansion for it. I eventually wanted the real time combat while retaining the DnD mechanics so it was a natural transition. The only thing that keeps me from playing P99 nowadays is being lazy about setting up my old settings. I’ve only gotten as far as redownloading the ISO’s before feeling that it was too much work

haha yes totally.
THere is something about the vibe, music, graphics, the only diference between it and EQ is that you cant do 3rd person, and its got sprites instead of 3D models.
Otherwise, yer in norrath basically.
Anyone ever played Kenshi? It looks like it would play like EQ1? But ive never tried it yet.
