Currently on P99, NPCs won't try to charm people while they have a pet up, and in the case of the version of Bristlebane we have here, his dictate proc will do nothing if he already has someone charmed. (Yes, people have killed Bristlebane on p99 before, he dropped a random trash card I think.)

It did not work this way in classic and still doesn't to this day on live as far as I know.

Why is it, then,
that a)MoBs can still charm players, and b)MoBs can charm MULTIPLE players?
Doesnt seem very fair...

Who writes this crap? Read: She charms. So when your main tank gets CHARMED what is going to happen to your rogues? How long do you think they will last against a mob that hits for 800? Especially when your main tank is now busy chasing your clerics. You should really have 3 tanks.. she can charm multiple people, and with 3 tanks you are pretty sure that at least one will resist. This will buy you a little time as someone tries to dispell your tank.

Beware: These mephits will charm multiple players at once, creating havoc for the average single group.

Harla Dar is annoying because she can charm multiple people.

In Luclin, they even added a raid mob that has an AoE charm: https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/npc.html?id=7830

Anecdotally I can recall being charmed by evil eyes which had an animation pet up.

Video of a Severilous fight where they leave the pet up if anyone wants to pixel hunt for a dragon charm (I couldn't see one, but the video quality is decidedly classic) - http://www.guildvision.org/movies/Severilous4_22_01.wmv

I'll try this again tonight, but I wasn't able to chain Charm the pixie
trickster who foolishly attacked me just as I finished memming the new charm
song. Someone on the Concert Hall reported being able to do it, so maybe I
just had something odd with my connection or something. I know I won't be
able to, but I'm still gonna try charming more than one pet, too (hey, if
NPC's can do it...).

No, there can never be more than one pet under your control, sorry. Verant's said it over and over, like when people bring up how NPC chanters can have a pet, then charm more guys so he has more than one. My first thought on this was that the FA style quest leads to the fire pet mastery staff, but that wouldn't make much sense, as the other 3 are identical but have different pets, so this one would be the same and suck majorly or it'd be different and everyone would complain about it being on fire.

Their charm didn't always follow normal rules either. For example, Wuoshi is a druid and if she happened to have "Charm Animal" on her spell set she could charm players even when she had her baby bear pet. I'm not sure if she even summons a bear pet on P99, but I have posted classic pics of her doing this. Hell, maybe I even made a bug report, forget

I think NPCs didn’t bother with targettype checks for (m)any of their spells? That is why pets could proc the anti summon nuke swords against non-summoned targets?

Ya, if you charm a mob that can have a pet, you can have 2 pets in a sense.
I've done it in befallen before, is very cool!

Another one to pile on, not much but it's something.

God... I'm more terrified by this the more I think about it. Imagine
a player controlled enchanter mob... they dont have a pet limit do they?

They were talking about Project M

These suckers are nasty. I have a level 20 necro and they attack me on site... Normally if you hear a "heartbeating" like you're holding your ear to someone's chest, then run unless you can take them. They con black and blue to me but they do some nasty crap.

I was medding and I heard the sound, but I didn't know what it was. I was sprung up by the evil eyes pet which was slashing for around 20-25. I engaged my pet on the eye, knowing it casted spells and hoping to interrupt them. Well it didn't work - the eye cast charm on me and I couldn't resist it. It murdered my pet, and then proceeded to send me in battle against a lion. I was loosing horribly beacuse I'm no melee fighter. After a few moments the charm broke and it cast fear on me and I started running. As I ran it casted insanity warp about 5 or 6 times until it's pet chased me down and killed me. All I can say is, if you're not ready, you will die.

Evil eyes are the funniest beasts in my opinion that I've encountered to date. My buddy (19 wiz) and I (15 Warrior at time) were fighting in W. Karana, beating on Gorge Hounds, when he lured this thing over, he sicked his pet on it, but the evil eye charmed me, my bud, and his pet. We walked around against our will for a few minutes, until my buddy broke the charm. Evil Eye decided what better person to take him out, then me? Eye sent me over, and I did a number against my friend. At this point, I'm begging not to lose hold because I'm in a bad way right now. By the blessing of the gaming gods, I got caught on a tree while following the Eye, and was a good distance when the charm broke. It was time to haul ass out of there. These eyes are dangerous, unless you are strong, fast, or have high resistance to magic, don't mess with em.

Im a level 22 druid and I started killing these at 20. A word of advice, the first few you encounter are cake. Yeah, you'll get the crap kicked out of you and you'll get all freaked -out by what they do to you with those so-called "charms" of thiers. But its all a ruse to get you to take them again and again. I have found its better to solo than group wit these cause they charm you (or members) to attack the party and to heal it. They can also charm pets as well. I was with a level 22 palladin (I was level 21) and I killed my pally by nuking the crap out of him and beating on him whilst he tried his LOH. The next time we aced it really easily. The trick is to have one beat on the pet, while one beats on the eye and have someone who can heal nearby (or blast on the eye). When soloing, buff up and ignore the pet for a few and (as in my case) beat on the eye and blast it whilst it tries casting (sometimes this actually works, They dont have many HPs), then go after the pet. Imagine my dismay after a vicious battle with ones pet and upon killing it, another pet came along to whale on me awhile. But Ive killed 5 of these, 3 soloing, 2 in a group. Ive died once soloing and 6 times in a group. Whats a drag is when you die, you have no idea where you will end up. If you get charmed, and start running for parts unknown with little health, do yerself a favour and just turn of yer computer. You'll save exp as well as the headache of wandering all over the zone shouting "Has anyone seen my corpse???"
