Why does this happen: Mobs with like 1 HP

Am I the only one that's nightmares are haunted by an NPC you hit with a DD spell and got it to like 1 HP instead of killing it, and stops playing animations and charges at you sliding along the ground.

And while in this mode they seem to hit every swing for max damage?

Why does this happen? It's like my worst nightmare. And it haunts my dreams.

To clarify:

Mob has like 1hp, it does not play animations when walking or attacking.

it swings and does max damage and hits every swing.

This is consistent across multiple EQ platforms

I just wonder wtf is going on!

My guess was always that at sufficiently low HP, the monster's HP is close enough to 0% that the game just treats it as 0%, and so while the backend continues to operate the creature, the client probably just has a simple thing to stop animating when mobs hit 0% hp because they're "dead".

The thing that really I wonder about is the DPS mobs do in this state.

I have a unrational fear of mobs that don't pay animations for that reason.

Like when I see that mob sliding towards me, my first thought is "oh lawed here he come!"

They seem to have the effect that they swing on your like you're sitting down, CHUNK CHUNK CHUNK every swing, no misses. Whenever they are in that state.

Last time it happened to me I had like 10 sold hits in a row max damage from some crappy green wan knight.

Im really surprised its not a "yeah wtf that happens to me too!" type thing.

I don't know what you're doing that results in consistently taking barrages of attacks from 1 hp mobs but I can assure you that you are playing the game wrong. It doesn't happen to us because that's weird as hell gameplay behavior

Do you play enchanter?

It happens most on enchanter because when you break charm, and hit a mob with low HP but dont kill it (knocking it to 0), breaking root, this is when youll cause it to happen.

Other than that its pretty tough to get a mob to 0.

Also it has to be undead or it will flee.
