Time to start rationing water, canned goods, and ammunition. I would say we have less than a year until tribes begin forming and cannibals start ravaging the country.

itt: someone with absolutely no perspective on our actual fiscal situation shares his 15 word or less opinion on the future.

note - dont forget that not everyone who reads this board gets their news from the internet, and may actually work in the industry.

You're right. News from the internet is stupid and always wrong. I mean it isn't like the Dow Futures is down 230 points and free falling. That can't be true, because that information is from the internet. Or that Israel's market halted trading. Or that Dubai's market was down over 5%. All of it just internet propaganda.

to be completely serious -

nothing you read on the internet, or hear about in the news has absolutely any bearing on the perspective you ought to take in regards to your finances. i understand the thrill of posting links as scare tactics, but realistically cut this shit out.

I'm confused, though. This is obviously horrible. I don't see how you being in the industry has anything to do with what I said. What is the purpose of your posts?

Obviously, my original post was sarcastic, but things are going to be bad Monday morning. Look at the Middle-east markets and the Asian markets (30 minutes to open!)

Slathar, if you're being serious man - as in if you have some $ invested somewhere in the market whether it be 401k, non fiduciary, even a Roth IRA, i seriously seriously (as in in real life you'd owe me money) suggest you do not whatsoever act on your $ in response to anything you hear about on the internet.

My financial health isn't really what worries me as so much as the state of the nation. I was just trying to get a dialogue started in Off Topic on the decline of America.

History shows that all great empires meet the same fate. China, for example. Like a phoenix, though, they've risen from their ashes and now our overlords.

This isn't necessarily bad news. I don't have a problem with American decline. It will show the crazies that Jesus loves China more.

I personally wouldn't mind china taking over as long as we don't have to adopt that god-awful language.

Don't worry. Azeth said that you shouldn't change anything, because information from the internet is wrong.

Tuesday is going to be a bloodbath as well. I can't wait for the Dow to go below 6000 and people start offing themselves after they realize their entire nesteggs are gone.

The bacon won't last a week.

If my calculations are correct (and they always are), after some careful geographical stuff that I don't feel like taking the 6 hours to type out to explain, I don't need to buy anything if everything goes to shit and people start rioting.

Short version: Rioters are lazy and my house is in the middle of the woods.

You could invest it into something or you could send it to me and I'll make sure you don't die and have pants when the economy collapses.

You don't "lose" unless you sell lower than you buy. The value of people's equity investments went down. If you were looking to pull money out for whatever reason (education, retirement) you can't help but lose.

Sad thing is the stock market hasn't really had any gains in years because its all getting wiped out, and this is after TARP, QE1, and QE2. Trillions and trillions of dollars in debt spent and absolutely nothing to show for it. Its all completely gone, kaput, vanished (except the big IOU we wrote to the Chinese).

I want to go sort of aggresive. Gold sounds like it would be pretty conservative thing to invest? ( i dont know shit about this stuff)

Ennoia your offer sounds tempting, a check is in the mail.

Something to remember if you don't have tens of thousands of dollars to invest: you can't digest gold, and people can just take it from you if you try to trade it for something in the midst of a food riot.

I suggest canned food. It lasts for a couple years, so not likely it will spoil before you eat it. If you fear the apocalypse and want to survive, then freeze dried with a hidden fresh water source. Of course, you'll need weapons and ammo to defend it. Unless confiscated, guns tend to increase in value ( AK 47 in the 90s sold for under 100 dollars on average in the US. They now sell for around 400 on average). I don't know what food prices are like where you are, but they have spiked about 10 percent where I live in the past six months. Buy a can for 50 cents now... save ten cents six months down the road.
