Texas jury clears police officer for Uvalde school shooting response (https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/ckgyynq7ej5o)
A Texas jury has found a police officer who responded to the 2022 mass shooting in Uvalde, Texas, not guilty of child endangerment charges.
"You can't stand by and allow it to happen," special prosecutor Bill Turner told the jury during closing arguments, saying the gunman needed to be stopped within the critical early moments of the shooting.
Defence lawyer Jason Goss said prosecutors were trying to scapegoat Gonzales, 52, and make him "pay for the pain of that day".
Gonzales was cleared of all 29 counts relating to allegations of abandoning and endangering 19 deceased students and 10 survivors.

So enforcement isn't the answer maybe we should put limits on the on other things the bad guys use or fund more mental help.

I think you ignored that it was just established that Young, in your story, could have also just left without liability.

Are we saying *all* of the Uvalde Police Force are not good guys?

Why did they single out one officer to charge with crimes? Weren't there a whole bunch there all pacing around unsure of what to do?

The police chief was also charged but has yet to go to trial. The rest can just say they just followed his orders.
Officer Gonzalez(acquitted) was the first on the scene.

idk some people out there think that if police are afraid of getting thrown in prison for too much force—or too little, they will jump face first into their deaths to protect said people.

Article 99 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) (https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/10/899) addresses "Misbehavior Before the Enemy," a serious offense covering acts like running away, abandoning duty, causing false alarms, plundering, or willfully failing to engage the enemy, which endangers fellow service members or property when near combat, with severe penalties possible for such cowardly or neglectful actions

(4)casts away his arms or ammunition;
(5)is guilty of cowardly conduct;
(6)quits his place of duty to plunder or pillage;
(7)causes false alarms in any command, unit, or place under control of the armed forces;

Just looked it up even if a military personnel was moonlighting as an officer it wouldn't stick. The Posse Comitatus Act and all.
Apparently there are a lot of cases where officers aren't required to protect civilains.
Warren v. District of Columbia (1981)
Castle Rock v. Gonzales (2005)
DeShaney v. Winnebago County (1989)
even state-specific laws to charge officers have fail to act have ended in acquittal...
Apparently...Even in deep R-territory it doesn't matter.
In Peterson v. Pollack - Florida prosecutors charged Peterson with "Child Neglect," arguing he was a "caregiver" to the students. However, in June 2023, he was acquitted of all charges. The jury essentially affirmed that while his actions were widely condemned, they weren't a crime under current law.
So yeah I guess it is time to limit the things these criminals are using or invest in more mental health for the troubled (see Shovel).

Posse comitatus allows a sheriff to wrangle up a group of civilians(posse) to go after banditos like Mike Reinhoel but disallows federal military units from acting as law enforcement.

In the right hands, it would have been the right answer. If the parents had been allowed in to the school to get their kids, the kids would be alive today. if the police had gone in instead of sitting on their hands, and using hand sanitizer while waiting, those kids would still be alive. If someone had any balls at all, the shooter would have been taken out much sooner and those kids would still be alive today.
So yeah, more guns would have fixed this issue. Just not in the hands of these cowards in uniform.

The US could be invited to the World Championship Of Cooking and the US judge could taste the blandest most unseasoned soup in all of recorded history and declare "Needs More Gunz".
