Has anyone found the wiki all of a sudden is working like half of the time?

Constantly, yeah, idk if its getting DOS'd or what but the forums are also clearly getting crawled and have been for awhile. Every time I check there are thousands of unregistered guests and they're scanning every post.

I notice the same issues now more regularly and as someone who has a public facing server myself I can only imagine what the connection logs look like at present to the sysop. Tens of thousands of automated connections scanning for exploited dependencies and more on my little unindexed public server with ~10 unique users over a twelve month span.

Yep. Been working off and on for me roughly since the beginning of the winter star GM event

The only person who can is Rogean (or Rahvin, but he stopped playing like ten years ago).

He will surely fix it someday, but the dude has a lot on his plate, and I imagine the wiki isn't at the top of his list.

If he'd put a donation button on there, I could help movitvate

Yeah I noticed the same. Thought it was getting hammered at first but I guess not, it is still going on and even during non peak times.

I did notice there's a good ~200 players more than usual on green at all times though but I doubt that's what is slowing it to a crawl.

This is pure speculation, but I believe Rogean is experimenting with new hosting for the wiki. In the past the wiki was just served on a box he hosted (the same box that powers these forums).

However, after he locked new user signups on the wiki, we started seeing CloudFront (ie. AWS) messages, which means it's now at least partially hosted in the Amazon cloud. Most likely the whole thing got moved, and he's using EC2 or something for the actual server hosting.

Again, just speculation, but if that's the case ... AWS is a giant pain in the ass, and even one config option being off can cause all sorts of problems. Rogean seems to be very good at dev ops, so I imagine he'll solve things eventually ... but I also imagine the wiki is low on his priority list.

Maybe the wiki will die and our memories will fade and we can re-experience the magic of not knowing wtf is going on in this game.
