Been debating on what class to play, and seeing as how it takes so damn long to level here i wanted to make sure I made a good decision.
Rogue
Bard
Shaman
Cleric
I played a 90 rogue on live and really liked it, but I know rogues are quite as powerful back in the day as mine was backstabbing for 100k, but it seemed as though equipping a lowbie rogue was fairly cheap.
LOVE LOVE LOVE iksar, but never really played a shaman would be interesting.
Bard just because I hear they level the fastest with their swarm kiting.
Cleric because I Love being in groups. Kinda why rogue is good too.:D

Rogue if you like to group.
Bard if you like to have super intense solo sessions.
Shaman if you want to be good at everything.
Monk if you want to be a poser.
Warrior if you want to get groups that complain about your aggro.
SK if you want groups to love your aggro and watch as they laugh and pass you in levels.
Paladin if you always roll Paladin in every game ever no questions asked.
Enchanter if you want to have fun and be loved.
Wizard if you have a family @ home and need frequent AFKs
Druid if you want all the low levels to love you, yet be spurned by your peers.
Ranger if you are a masochist.
/thread.

this is a preference question. you can't pick a wrong class here so just go with whatever's the most fun for ya. good luck in figuring it out. it is good that you recognize the pace is slow enough that this is an important thing to think through. I had to do the same!

I think I really like rogue, and I am very intrigued by Shaman. I really love the fact that Iksar is a one stop shop as far as leveling goes. Everything you need is like 3 zones around your initial city to hit level 30. the 20% exp penalty does blow though.

Bard dude. Bard. They're the coolest class in the game by far. They bring so much to groups and you can solo like there is no tomorrow once you learn to kite.

You would probably enjoy Ranger the best. They are cleary the best class in game.

I'll add the final forgotten class:
Mage: If you want to dominate low to mid game content, then summon fireworks to celebrate your account sale and purchase of a melee toon.

Play what you enjoy, but be aware it's hard to equip any melee and they are group reliant pretty early on. That said I rolled a rogue first and I managed to level and gear it up. I got some small help here and there from kind strangers early on and I hear this is not too uncommon an experience. Just getting handed a fine steel weapon was exciting to me when I first logged in

I love this touchy feely response. Would be true if the server were going luclin+, but it's not so dont ever play a fucking ranger or wizard EVER.

To the OP's real question:
I think you need to make two decisions to decide on the four classes in question:
1. How much do you want to group vs. solo?
2. How fiddly vs relaxed do you want to play?
Cleric: This is a more relaxed play style. While they can solo a bit, its typically not very efficient time/exp wise. Clerics are at home in a group. Need to be on the ball for heals (especially if you have aggro friendly casters in your group) but there isnt a lot of button mashing. Complete heal makes them very powerful healers.
Shaman: This is a really interesting class as they are extremely dymamic and versatile. Shamen have the best melee buffs, melee haste, sow, hp buffs, the best mob slows, regen, mob debuffs, a semi crappy little dogdog pet and the ability to convert hp to mana. Can solo semi decently but are best in a group where they are generally well loved, especially by melees (for the buffs). Its more of a fiddly class with a lot of button mashing if played correctly. Goes well with your love of iksars since iksars regen hp.
Rogue: Probably the most simple of all the melee classes. Stand behind mob, autoattack and backstab. Good dps, nearly no soloing ability, not a lot of button mashing despite being a melee. Almost no ability to solo, much like most melee classes.
Bard: Bards have a tremendous amount of utility. This class is VERY fiddly to play. If done properly you will be weaving four songs at once which requires literally constant button mashing. If you have no fear of carpal tunnel and are willing to really work at it you can be a great bard. Swarm kiting makes them powerful soloers once you get it down, but bards are also welcome in groups due to their utility buffs.

Stop asking yourself all these stupid questions other people are posting.
it's only 2 questions with 2 answers.
Do you NOT want to be a badass? If you do not want to be a badass, roll any class other than Necromancer.
Do you want to be a BADASS!? Then roll a M'F'n Necro and melt some faces.
You're either a Necro or you're in the way.

Yes pick necro if you want to be like everyother mfer on the Server, have no real group benefit other than twitches and truly just be another necro that thinks they are so fuking awesome running around like a chicken with their head cut off every mob they fight ROFL. Seriously do all these necros think they are so cool because they are just like everyone else pfff, I won't make a monk, necro, druid just on that basis alone.
Play a wiz and when your quadding seafuries like a champ you can revel in all the necros bitching And moaning at you because they can't keep up
So yeah I guess what I'm saying is although all necro think they are hot shit we all pity the poor bastards for being so dam unoriginal

If I made an alt I think it would be a necro. Why does what everyone else is doing matter so much? Necros are very cool. And thanks to soloability, they are viable even if groups are hard to come by. Besides, what group would turn down a necro because there are lots of them?
